Hmmm, I guess my gaming tastes would allow me to do this(but keep the responses coming!). Never played the GTA series besides pt 2 on the PC(I know, I know, but at the very worst this means that I would have the patience to wait until it's ported to xbox like the others), Smackdown was cool but I would only give it a rental, never played SOCOM, and GT3 came with my PS2 when I bought it, and could never really get into it(too involved I guess for my time constraints).

As funny as it may seem, the idea that girls can play this gamecube is a big selling point. Everytime they're over they complain about wanting to "play"(videogames that is), but seem to be intimidated by the xbox and PS2. Maybe it's just something about the Nintendo name? I know that some of you have wives/girlfriends. Do they tend to like the Gamecube and its selection of games? IS it easier for them to "get into" and not be easily crushed by a more experienced gamer?

I am really worried about the potential trade-in value, however. I guess if they offered me a substandard trade-in, I wouldn't terribly mind keeping the PS2, but it sure would be nice, as a poor college student, to parlay it into a few games instead. Also, with trade ins, does it make any substantial difference if you have the original box/manual for consoles(Even though I don't have my GT3 copy, I wonder if they'd take the PS2 GT3 Box)?
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Oversimplification is the escape of men who want to avoid the duty demanded by true understanding.

Jak 3, Ratchet & Clank, The Getaway : Black Monday, Devil May Cry 3, Killzone, any 989 sports games, Final Fantasy sequels, Gods of War, Tekken and Virtua Fighter series.

Any of these games of importance or relevance to you?

I think girls probably would prefer a Cube. With games like Mario Party, Mario Golf, Mario Kart : Double Dash, and a few others. designed with multiplayer in mind.

If I had to guess, if you traded in right now here is my breakdown -

MVP 2004 - $20-25
PS2 Console - $60-80
Network Adapter - $10-20
PS2 Dual Shock - $7-10 each
DVD Remote - $5-8
Memory Card - $7-10 each

They will not want the GT3 box without the game, and if you happen to have the manuals, box and stuff for the PS2 it certainly can't hurt.

Also, a word of advice if I may. In my experience, Gamestop has consistently given me a few dollars more per item on trade-ins than EB. Now your mileage may vary, but if you have a Gamestop around, you may want to check with them as well.

First off, thanks for all of your help. That list you posted just cinched it, I think. Never played any of those games(they're mostly sequels, right?) outside of final fantasy 7 for PS1(great, but could never finish) and Virtua Fighter in the arcades years ago, and for an ill-advised day on my 32X(which I took back within hours-piece of crap). I couldn't see myself buying any of those, at least not over games like Metroid, Mario Sunshine, Windwaker, Double Dash, Golf, Tennis.

NOw, anyone know what kind of trade-in value I can expect for a top-condition PS2 with a network adapter?

I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Oversimplification is the escape of men who want to avoid the duty demanded by true understanding.

IF you aren't interested in the PS2 games mentioned, then this is a sound move as the ps2 doesn't have many party offerings. The best multiplayer games on GC:
- SSBM
- Super Monkey ball 2
- Mario Kart: DD
- Animal Crossing(chicks probably would get into it)
- Mario Party
- Final Fantasy: Crystal Cronicles*
- Zelda: Four Swords*

*GBA connection a must

On the flipside maybe try these games before you pull the trigger:

- The Adventures of Cookie and Cream
- Amplitude
- Champions of Norrath
- Bombastic
- DDR Max 2
- Smackdown
- Karoke Revolution

So PS2 does have some quality party games, you just have to look hard.
