IGN says Xbox Successor in Late 2005

I think that might be too early. They have some big releases for Xbox coming up and are just hitting their stride. Says PS3 might not release until 2007.

if sony gets arent able to get the hd-dvds ready until 2007

gates should release "next" in 2006 with nintendo...that is almost a death warrant...but releasing it early is stupid...when gates humself proclaims that developers havent "tap the power" of the xbox one yet

Yeah it'd be 3DO and DC all over again.

I remember that same thing being said about the PS1 when PS2 was released. I think that's the M.O. for most of these console creaters. Just when the developers are getting a handle on one console the next ones come out.
Maybe that's why Sony's P3 will dominate. I'm sure they're already sending out their dev-kits to programmers so that when it's released the first generation games will already be incredible.

I'll be very suprised if it shows up in 2005. 2006 or 2007 makes more sense.

I'm tired of listening to all these rumours and predictions about the next gen of consoles. Just enjoy what we have now.

Like someone noted above both systems haven't tapped their potential yet. An example of this would be Killzone for example for the PS2. Check out the preview for this game.

Well the PS2 has propbably hit it's apex and now it's going to be rare to see games that push the system. Just take sports games, even though EA Sports is programming them for the PS2, most games look outdated on that system.

I would say the PS2 has a few graphical surprises up its sleeve but for the most part we are going to be seeing the advances on the Xbox.
