"Consumers do not want online games" - Iwata

Outspoken executive tells Japanese press that online-enabled gaming is on the way out, drops hints of a Bandai partnership.

I'm curious if IGN or Gamespot had a poll that stated which feature do you prefer

    A: online gaming
B: connectivity (ie. extra Madden cards in Madden) if you buy a Cube and GBA

Which one do you think would come out on top?

Re: \"Consumers do not want online games\" - Iwata

It's interesting that Mr. Iwata said that online games are on the way down. I know that he was using the Japanese market as his evidence but I think that the online market is slowly getting stronger here in North America. I'm sure that the overall sales of online games are going down but it's probably not a nosedive but rather going down compared to when they were first introduced.

Some of the more popular games these days have an online component to them and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

the japanese market is totally different from the US market I believe...there are some games that are total hits in Japan that wouldn't sell at all here, I think

If I had broadband in my area (I live in the sticks, y'see), I would definitely subscribe to Xbox Live. With broadband usage and availability going up, so will sales and use of online games.
