    Re: Doom 3

I got it earlier today and it's your basic FPS through most of the early going ( walk down a hallway, kill something, and repeat ). All of the base looks unique though so it doesn't feel like you're walking down the same hall throughout.

An added element that I like so far is you have to decide whether to equip your flashlight or your weapon. If you're in a very dark room with things approaching, you can either see them ( without being able to damage them ) or shoot half blindly.

My computer ( P4/2.4 ghz, ATI Radeon 9800 128 MB, 512 MB ) runs it fairly lag free on 800x600 and medium video settings.

The motive for me to finish each level so far has been to reach the "Hell" level where you actually go through the portal into their realm. I've seen a few videos of this and it looks pretty amazing. Other than that, it's all about finding keys and getting out of the level ( ala classic Doom )

I'd say buy it if you're a big FPS fan, but the only earthshatterting thing about it has been the graphics. Everything else is pretty much by the book ( that I've seen anyway ).

I'm not that far into the game so you might want to take what I've said with a grain of salt. Who knows, something interesting might happen soon.

The one thing I will add to what Capstone said is that this game has a kinda creepy feel to it and will make you jump at times. Zombies hide in dark portions of the map and jump out to startle you, the imps crawl along the the walls and ceilings at rather fast speeds, and I have encountered more than my fair share of traps.

Its a shame I suck at this game though; can't get out of the first shooting level on easy...

BTW I'm running this game on a P4 2.5 GHz, 512 MB RAM, and GeForce4 Ti 4200 at 640x480 with few problems. Even running on low detail, this game still looks amazing.

I'm having fun with the game, although I wish there were some brighter areas. Every part has been pretty dark. I have a 2.8 Ghz P4, Radeon 9800 128 pro, 512 ram, it runs really well at 1024 at high detail.

Add me to the list who's computers aren't fast enough to run the game. Here's hoping that the xbox look remotely as good as the PC version.

                    Re: Doom 3

I've got the PC power to run it only becasue I had just recently built it(with DOOM3 and Half-Life 2 in mind) and have been waiting for this game for a loooong time.

DOOM for me is a must own title just because of the history of the game.
