What do you mean by "true" fighting game? What matters the most to you?

Is it expert timing of precision inputs to pull off great combos against equally skilled opponents? Go for the Mortal Kombat 2011 / Mortal Kombat X, Street Fighter V, or Tekken 7. DiveKick and BlazBlue are two other niche examples which are highly regarded.

Looking for a open world brawling game where you take on opponents from all angles and perform over-the-top moves to dispatch all of them? The one versus example I can think of is Power Stone for the Sega Dreamcast, but I think to an extent games like Batman Arkham (entire series), God of War, and Bayonetta also fit this bill.

Want something that has licensed real-world characters? Go for UFC or WWE 2K.

With Tekken 7 just releasing in Japan, I really expect a new VF soon.

I'm still waiting for the next Fight Night... I loved the heck out of all of those games.

Hands down my favorite sport is boxing. I really hope EA can bring a real sim boxing game to these next gen consoles. I prefer boxing anyday over UFC.

I recommend the batman arkham series, naruto series, and most definitely the dragonball titles!!! I think dragonball xenoverse comes out next week. The last one I played was dragonball raging blast 2 and let me tell ya, that was a masterpiece of a fighting game with interactive levels, tons of unlockables, loads of characters, crisp cell shading, leagues deep fighting mechanics, the works!!

Certainly made for not only core dragonball fans (which I'm actually not) but core fighting game fans (that's me), and that was a last gen title. Really looking forward to this current gen dbz release. Once again, you don't even have to be a big fan of dragonball to get lost in it, content heavy. Try it out.

My dream battle game by the way is Macross/robotech utilizing the raging blast 2 engine. If I was well off I'd definitely finance the development of that with not a care in the world of making a profit, just my own personal game. Last para is a little off topic, just had to get that off my chest, my bad man lmao!

There's a lot of real fighting games out there, i mean, they're all over the place since the early 90's.



You can take almost any SNK fighting game (The Last Blade, Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu, Art of Fighting, The King of Fighters) and add them to a big list of true fighting games.



Other great games are Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, Guilty Gear (series), Blazblue (series), Marvel vs Capcom 2...



And i don't count the 3d fighters because i dont like them, but if they're good to you, then you have a bigger number of fighting games to choose from (i would recommend Tekken, Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive)

What do you mean by true fighting game? Like what are you looking for? Back in the day i will say Def jam fight for ny was an extremely underrated fighting game that you could do a lot in.

Also, super smash bros melee, while most people think it's just a party game, played at the competitive level, it is by far the most fluid fighting game, the movement is ridiculous. I'm still waiting for tekken 7 to come out for now though. One of the few fighting games i feel that's not about dialing a combo.
