Rivals Mode is your first real taste at the competitive side of Rock Band – score chasers can gain ranks in the leaderboards, but what does it really mean to be on top? You’ll be creating a Crew with up to 10 of your closest bandmates and setting off to promote your team in a series of Weekly Challenges. Each week will bring forth a new challenge, ranging from prompts like, “All songs with ‘love’ in the title” to, “Tracks released in the ‘80s”. You can gain Experience Points for any tracks that fall into these themes as long as the challenge is active. There will also be three specific Spotlight Songs that are included in the Weekly Challenge theme. The highest aggregate score across all instruments for these three songs can earn your Crew major points. Find your place above the rest by earning Crew promotions each week, where you can then laugh at the Rivals Crews who have fallen below you.

Their promo pic lists three question marks as separate items but their blog post lists it as one, so not sure if there's one mystery artist or more.

hey - how many XB1 rockers we have around here? enough for a crew?

people have started to form crews on RB forums and Reddit. just wanted to see what the OS crew would look like, before I started looking elsewhere.

drums - mostly hard. would have to drop to medium for the devil tier songs, but can also play a bunch of the easy songs on expert (*cough*Weezer*cough*).

also willing to dust off the guitar a little if necessary, medium level. guaranteed to be super rusty.

just under 700 songs, hard/classic rock focus. i own NONE of the newer pop stuff.

Expert everything.

I own a million songs. So yeah I'm down, although I rarely play anymore since the new DLC has been terrible for my taste and the character customizer is so poor.

Not gonna lie...I bought a couple of the Bieber songs, a couple One Direction, and plan to get the Nicki Minaj at some point. I don't play them by myself but people like them at parties.

I pre-ordered on the Playstation Store. Is it a whole new game, or just a downloadable add-on to Rock Band 4?

I can't really remember, but I can't remember it looking good. It was kind of just hokey.

I think a medley mode would be cool. You can pick a playlist of song snippets that bunch together just as one big, long song. You can pick the sections that you want it to play in that song as well, and maybe they even suggest some songs that go together based on what you pick. I'm sure there would be plenty of licensing issues hell over that though.

What is Rivals supposed to be?

Two main modes:
Rockudrama - a Behind the Music-style career mode

Rivals mode - you join a crew with up to nine other people and compete in weekly challenges. Playing in any mode contributes toward your crew's overall score. I don't know if there's any real goal aside from leaderboard rank.

Biggest thing is they locked future feature updates (like online play coming in December) behind the purchase of the expansion.
