aukevin and I just played Online Quickplay together. Online connection was smooth and menus are very easy to navigate. Had a lot of fun. Hoping to get a full band together to play sometime soon.

Re: Rock Band 4 (PS4, XBOX One)

Pretty significant update came out this week.

Seasons introduces a new design to the existing Rivals Challenge framework that adds shape and structure to Rivals Mode. Over the course of an 8 week season, crews will compete to climb and maintain rank. Eight Challenges will take you from Bronze to…well, your best placement. That does mean Season 1 will begin with everyone in Bronze, though your placement up until then will determine your rewards, so don’t slack. Demotion is gone in the new Season format, so if you need an off week, that’s cool, you can do that and still reach Bloodstone at the end.

However, Rivals Points have been adjusted, and reaching Bloodstone sooner in a Season will reward more points than reaching it in week eight. After eight weeks, you claim your rewards, and everyone drops to Bronze as another Season begins. There will still be three Spotlight Songs for scoring and many other songs for XP, but the overarching framework has been tweaked for a more enjoyable experience.

            ---

Missions are another major addition. We now present you with a list of tasks that you can tackle or contribute to over time. For example: Play 5 Big Rock Endings; Get a score ending in 7; Miss a single note in a song. Some Missions are even Crew-based, where everyone in your crew contributes to meet the goal - like earning 5,000 XP in a Rivals Challenge. Timed Missions, themed Missions, SECRET Missions. Take your favorite badge as a tag next to your name when playing online, then ask your friends how they earned theirs to find a new goal to set yourself.

Hey gang! Our big update is here, bringing Missions and a refresh of the Rivals Challenge format we’re calling Seasons. This update is quite large, so we’re gonna touch some of the bigger items and then dive into the full notes at the bottom. Read on for more! Seasons introduces a new design to

Harmonix has a plan to inject a bit of extra life into Rock Band 4 by introducing a season pass for the game. You all know what a season pass means, right? It means new DLC, which means more songs to play, more music to rock out to, and more fun with friends.

Harmonix has a plan to inject a bit of extra life into*Rock Band 4*by introducing a season pass for the game. You all know what a season pass means, right? It means new DLC, which means more songs to play, more music to rock out to, and more fun with friends.

Over on the*Harmonx forum, the developers announced that there will be a new Season 2 Spotlight Pass for*Rock Band 4*on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The second season pass will run you $13.49, and will be available digitally via the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Store starting August 24th. The duration of the second season pass will only last up until October 17th, 2017, giving gamers eight weeks of new content to look forward to.

Each week the developers will release a new song, totaling eight songs for the eight weeks to last the duration of the season. Each of the DLC songs that will be part of the Season 2 Spotlight Pass will be a Spotlight Song, and will also be featured in the Rivals Mode challenge in*Rock Band 4.

The feedback in the forum is interesting. Some gamers are all-in, others are a bit reluctant, and few more had some pertinent questions about the season pass songs. For instance, some asked if any of the songs would be rewind songs in the pack from previous*Rock Band*games.

It's a good question to ask, because some gamers aren't entirely thrilled about paying close to $14 for another*Rock Band 4*season pass if some of the songs will be repeats. Others were just glad that some new content is coming to Harmonix's music title.

The developers haven't had the easiest go of it on the market lately. Recently it announced that*Rock Band Blitz*was being taken off of digital distribution storefronts for home consoles after the music licenses expired. For those who purchased the DLC it was still possible to port over some of the songs into*Rock Band 3*and*Rock Band 4*after going through a few hoops and taking a few steps to get the songs into the newer games.

Harmonix*also had to self-publish the latest*Rock Band*title along with*Mad Catz, which removed a lot of the safety nets usually associated with having a major publisher heading up the logistics for getting game promoted, financed, up and out for major consoles. The developers also attempted to run a crowdfund campaign in order to work on a PC version of the game.

A lot of the troubles started from the over-saturation of music games during the late aughts, where EA and Activision kept pumping out a ton of music-rhythm titles and then began loading those titles up with inordinate amounts of DLC. There were more games and DLC than what the average consumer could keep up with, and eventually sales and interest tapered off.

Harmonix managed to make a return to the fold in 2015 with*Rock Band 4*and it did well enough that it was able to receive some additional DLC. The second season of DLC will get underway at the end of the month

So much marketing speak on top of what is just an 8 song pack released over 8 weeks

It's also just a poorly written article from CinemaBlend. The official announcement from Harmonix wasn't that bad.

Brand new to Rock Band this month – a season pass to select, new Rock Band DLC. Each week for the duration of the season (eight weeks), players who purchase the Season 2 Spotlight Pass will be granted a permanent entitlement to whichever new release is featured as a Spotlight Song in that week’s Rivals Mode challenge (a total of eight songs). The Season 2 Spotlight Pass will cost $13.49 and be available for purchase beginning August 24 on both Xbox One and PlayStation®4 for the duration of Rivals Season 2, which ends on October 17, 2017.

I popped this in earlier today and installed an update, and man there are a lot of DLC songs of mine that are missing (over 200). I can even see them purchased in the RB store, but when I try to access them they say "No content available" or something like that.

Is this because of loss of licensing? Can they actually be removed from my game even if I have them already paid for, downloaded, and installed?

                      Sorry, update.

Upon restarting my PS4 and firing it back up, it was able to find the other missing 239 songs. I don't know why that happened, but I'm glad that I have them all again.

Good they are back, but probably. I'm sure in some long thing no one read they they are allowed to revoke access. I think GTAV or one of them lost songs in an update because they were only licensed for 10 years. Can't remember all the details.

Good to know. I'm wondering if "rolling back" updates will somehow bring them back as well. Would be interesting.

It does suck there are some things I won't be able to export into there anymore, such as the LEGO Rock Band songs. Some of them became DLC later down the line, but others didn't and I basically won't be able to have them on there ever. Definitely a shame.

There are a lot of songs that I used to have that seem to be part of that bigger Rock Band 4 $40+ DLC package (guessing maybe these are songs whos license expired or something?), whatever that is. I've got something like 350 pieces of DLC for RB4, which is the only game I physically own.

I’m sure it’s possible that there’s language like that in the deals, but to my knowledge they’ve never done it. The standard for RB is that Harmonix will lose the rights to sell a song, but it’s still available to download and play for those who purchased it.

I also don’t think (but could be wrong) they’ve ever relicensed a song after the rights expired, so I’m not sure what the $40 bundle includes but I don’t think it’s that.

After eight years of continuous support, weekly Rock Band 4 DLC releases end effective today.

                                The final three songs are:
                                • "Wherever You Will Go" - The Calling
                                • "Thank You" - Dido
                                • "Send Me On My Way" - Rusted Root

                                It was a good run!
