Haven't really gotten involved too much, but did start heading toward Bel-something or whatever the place is called (still very new with the game and names, obviously). I stopped at a town on the way to the town discussed and enjoyed my stay there, as well.

I gotta say, it's almost scary walking alone through the roads and such. I haven't even gone inside a cave or any forests or anything like that. I'm afraid just getting into the water or going anywhere away from people (yet, games like Silent Hill don't scare me...)

Quick question...how do you swim in the game? Can you? I jump in and I see my air supply going down and no matter what button I press nothing changes.

Balmora i think is the name of the town you are headed for.
i didnt think you could swim, i never really tried, just walked and hoped to get out before i started to drown. :y4:

and i agree with the creepiness that overcomes you, specially inside caves. I enjoy the wide open space. But sometimes you dont have much of a choice.

This is a love\hate game. As in sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it.

Bought it when it first was released. Put in about 20 hours, traded it in

Bought it again for 19.99. Played about another 15 hours, traded it in.

I was in Best Buy last weekend and saw the GOTY Edition for 19.99. So guess what? I own it again. Have not fired up the new copy yet.

Thanks God for the XBox HD, if it were memory card I would have erased all my progress. Now I can start about 35 hours in and someday see the new stuff

Morrowind does what it does very well. If you are looking for a western-style, open ended RPG, it's the game for you. It's practically an offline MMORPG.

However, if you're like me and prefer tighter Japanese-style RPGs, this might not appeal to you.

Yea, Balmora, that's the one. Thanks.

I know I could take the stilt things, but I decided to take the walk so I could explore the region.

I know for a fact that you can indeed swim. I've been visiting the Morrowind Forums and people talk about it all the time. Swimming from place to place...even going underwater. From the words of it, you can find some interesting stuff underwater.

                edit:

I asked the question in the forums...I'll drop the info when I find out.

ohh dont get me wrong, i tried to swim several times, but it never works, so i just dont bother with it.

the game is a bit slow at first, but once you start gaining levels it becomes much more fun

Re: Is Morrowind a good game?

I swim all the time. You can even buy/make potions/scrolls/rings/etc that let you hold your breath underwater longer. Underwater, you can find alot of expensive pearls at the sea floor in case you need some money. Every fish or creature under water is quite easy to beat so the water is pretty safe. You can even find a few suken treasure ships on the ocean floor. In fact, if you look at your map that came with the game, you can see the sunken ships.

And I also agree about the fear factor while traveling Morrowind. After about 50-60 hours played, I still show fear when walking into a cave or being around some unfamiliar territory. The caves still creep me out the most though, cause you never know what to expect. And stear clear of the draedric shrines and places, you wont survive.

And to add to Bacardi's comments, the game does start off super slow. So slow that I did'nt think I would play and enjoy it the first time. But after you get to Balmora and meet Casius, everything will pick up. Plus when you start joing a few guilds, the game and action really start to pick up as you'll soon find yourself attempting to do 3 or 4 quest at a time before you check back in with your quest giver(s).

You hop in the water and the rest takes care of itself. Only thing you need to do is come up for some air when your oxygen meter goes in the red.

If you mean control wise, its like you're in a airplane. Move the camera/anolog UP to dive and move the camera/anolog down to go back up for air.
