    Re: Mad Max

I found of them to become rather redundant and I lost interest in both about 1/3-1/2 through the story missions.

Once I figured out MGSV basically kept recycling previous missions back into 'new' missions I gave up. The regions are amazing, though.

I really like the world of Mad Max, but I wish there was more depth to the gameplay. It could have been a sleeper like Modor, but the combat and driving were both a little too simplistic.

Mad Max is a cool game, but it just wore out it's welcome with me quickly. The gameplay wasn't interesting enough to keep me going any more and I felt I saw everything that I needed to see.
I played MGSV for about 70 hours and the only thing that saved it was the gameplay. There's a lot of variation in Mad Max. How long did you play the game? There's an underground subway and airport. You can really see what the world looked like before it went to crap. MGSV bases and enemy encounters were horrible for one reason - you had to keep re-playing the same areas over and over again and that's excluding repeating the missions if you wanted to complete all the objectives. The re-spawning enemies were also a huge problem. What's the point in taking out enemies if they keep coming back?

Mad Max had the best car combat since Twisted Metal. Only negative is that once you fully upgrade the Magnum Opus, you become overpowered. Melee is a combination of the Batman Arkham series and The Last of Us. Batman is how the mechanics work and TLOU in terms of the sheer brutality and violence of it. The plat-forming was also good going through the each camp looking for all the collectibles, etc. The only negative was the beyond horrible jump that Max performs.

For me, Mad Max was the third best game of 2015 and number one in terms of just fun.

Story in Mad Max is too short while in MGSV, it's too long. Agree in regards to the recycling of missions in MGSV. That turned me off as well because once I clear out an area, I expect it to be cleared. Instead, all the enemies just kept re-spawning.

I loved the gameplay in Mad Max. The depth comes from the upgrading of Max and the Magnum Opus. The depth is pretty much the same as in the Batman Arkham games. I played and finished Mordor and think that Mad Max is the better overall game. I also had a lot more fun with Mad Max.

Between MGSV, Mad Max and Mordor, I would easily and by far pick Mad Max as to me, it's just the better overall game and simply, a lot more fun to play. Plus, it's a Ubisoft style open world game which is the formula/setup I prefer.

I will always say that Mad Max was and still is the better game to be released on September 1st, 2015 just like I will always say that Rise of the Tomb Raider was and still is the better game to be released on November 10th, 2015. Shame how the two better overall games get overshadowed and dominated by the lesser more boring overrated and overhyped games. Such a shame. Oh well.

I haven't played this game yet but I think I might try it out at some point down the road. I have heard pretty varying takes on the game. I have seen some sites put it up as a Best Of game and other sites say it is pretty mediocre.

I like the look of the game

It's a really FUN game. I'd definitely recommend it, especially at the low price I saw mentioned earlier.

Mad Max gets bashed because it was released on the same day as MGSV. Same with ROTTR/Fallout 4. The negatives that I read in reviews never made any sense to me.

            Negative: Empty open world.
            My response: Hmmm, coughMGSVcough.

            Negative: Boring/bland melee system.
My response: Hmmm, it's the same as the Arkham games yet those get praised? And if anything, Mad Max is better because unlike Batman, your character won't go around in a circle during every single fight and encounter.

            Negative: Repetitive
My response: Hmmm, that's EVERY single game ever made. Every game is ******* repetitive. It simply comes down to this - "are you enjoying what you're doing in the game to keep doing it over and over again".

            Negative: Ubisoft style setup/formula
My response: Every open world game uses one of two formulas. One is from Ubisoft and the other is like GTA. Some use a combination. Mad Max copies the Ubisoft setup and formula. Granted, I love Ubisoft so im definitely playing favorites but at the same time, if you were to sit down, play and criticize MGSV, you would find a lot of the same problems yet no one mentioned or talked about them.

There's others im sure but most of the negatives that I read in reviews, I can easily find the same exact negatives in MGSV or other open world games. Seriously, I hate it when games get bashed or scored low for the same crap that other more popular big named titles have in them as well. Makes no sense. Either bash them all or give them all a pass.

I love Mad Max and it's one of the few games I will defend until the end of time. The reviewers simply didn't "get" the game, the concept, the idea, the premise, etc. and just bashed it because it either copied other games (which every game does in one way, shape or form) or because it came out the same day as MGSV which to me is one of the most overrated and overhyped games I have ever played.

Truly hope you enjoy the game Jare.

I picked it up very very cheap used (12 bucks with some trades).

I just started Arkham Knight (which is ****ing awesome BTW) and once I am done with that I moving on to Mad Max.

              Can't wait.

The fighting mechanics are basically the same so you'll be able to step from one to the other without much issue.

I'm jealous you get to experience MM with fresh eyes.
Definitely one of the most fun games I've played in a long time. Right up there with Sleeping Dogs, IMO.

                  Re: Mad Max

Batman (and to a lesser extent Mordor) is praised for its combat because it is fluid, as simple or as complex as you want it, and it has enough variation and combos to keep fights fresh. Plus, the enemies vary very well.

Mad Max is basically just a brawler with the same buttons. It can be freakin' brutal and fun, but there's not too much variance from fight to fight.

With all that said I still want to come back to Mad Max and finish it up. I don't feel the same way for MGSV.

Batman only uses two buttons as well. Counter (triangle) and attack (square). Personally, the melee system in Batman is good but not great and here's why - the game is obviously a super hero game and thus, Batman has better abilities and strengths. Take Bruce Wayne out of the Batman suit and he becomes the same as Mad Max. I would just button mash my way through all the fights in Batman Arkham Knight and rarely had a problem.

Mad Max is just a normal human being and doesn't possess super hero abilities and powers. Granted, I didn't have any trouble in Mad Max either but here's why I didn't have any trouble in either game - Sleeping Dogs. That was the first game I played through 100% using the Batman Arkham melee system so I was already used to it.

It just pisses me off when I see a damn good and fun game get bashed for the same reasons that other games get praised for.

Don't you have to use Circle as well (in Batman) to set up stuns or something like that? I haven't played in forever. I think you can vault over enemies with X as well in Batman

I'm not attempting to bash the mechanics. I understand why they're so grounded, but as a result they're not as diverse or complex as other games with similar styles.

Circle allows Batman to perform a spin move and yes, you can vault over enemies as Batman but here's my problem - take Bruce out of the Batsuit and he isn't spinning or jumping over anyone. Again, it's just not a fair comparison to me. One gets praised but has extra abilities and moves because of the Batsuit and it being a super hero game while one gets bashed for not being expansive enough yet if Mad Max was doing spins and jumping over enemies, it would still get bashed for being unrealistic. Either way, Mad Max was fighting a losing battle.

I know but take Sleeping Dogs for example. Wen is not a super hero but he is a martial artist and thus, he should have more moves. Reviewers and gamers were expecting too much out of Mad Max despite him just being a regular guy trying to survive in a wasteland. He isn't going to be performing spins, jumps and a billion martial arts combos.

In short, the basics are the same but the depth varies because of the character in the game and that character's background and ability. I just don't think that it's fair for one game to get bashed while others get praised yet no one sees the true difference as to why the move sets and limitations are in one compared to the other two games.
