    Favorite Genre of Gaming

My favorite kinds of games have changed over the years. Right now my favorite genre is racing followed closely by RTS games. I like racing because I find it relaxing after a day of work and kids. I find racing games provide a Zen-like state or relaxation, but they also can bring in some edge of your seat experiences as well.

Your favorite genres? My top five:
    1. racing
    2. real time strategy
    3. sports
    4. third person action games such as GTA, Zelda, God of War
    5. RPG

              Re: Favorite Genre of Gaming

This is tough as I like pretty much every genre as long as the game is good. Developers like Blizzard and Valve take my money every time because of the quality of their product.

The most anticipated games from genre are probably as follows:
              1) Sports
              2) Sports Text Sims
              3) Fighters
              4) MOBAs
              5) MMORPGs

                  Re: Favorite Genre of Gaming

Right now my favorites would be:

                  1. Roguelikes (Spelunky, Binding of Isaac, FTL)
                  2. Turn Based Strategy RPGs (X-COM, Fire Emblem, Shadowrun)
                  3. Souls style games. Nothing else really like it so I consider it its own genre
                  4. Open ended stealth/action (Dishonored, Deus Ex)
                  5. Character action games (Bayonetta, Wonderful 101, Metal Gear Rising - so essentially Platinum games)
                  6. Episodic adventure games (Walking Dead, Life is Strange, Kentucky Route Zero)

After years of FPS fatigue, I'm starting to play some, but not to the extent I used to. I am starting to get open world fatigue though.

                        Re: Favorite Genre of Gaming

Since the tail end of the 360 console generation my gaming interests shifted from mainly sports games to action/adventure, fighting, and RPG games. Basically sports games on the 360 (namely Madden and MLB2K) did not compete in terms of overall gameplay quality with the other genres and I began jumping ship on sports gaming as a whole.
