After a couple hours with the campaign and a match or two of multiplayer, absolute must buy when I've got the time after I exhaust my evaluation. Fun game.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Even the veteran Mass Effect players should read all the non spoiler "before you play" tip guides out there.
I rarely do that for games but it was definitely needed here. I almost want to start over, lolComment

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
I put in about a good 5 hours last night and I must say that the people with the negative reviews are on something. The game is far from horrible and I would suggest it as a must buy if you're into sci-fi shooters or rpg's in general.
Like most, I was completely discouraged from picking the game up due to the mixed reviews. I can understand how diehard fans of the series might have sour taste but I'm not much of a fan of the universe as I cant tell you squat about the story line.
I believe most people who hate the game were fans of the story but for me, ME3 had to much dialog and little gameplay so I never got into it. One thing I love about the game is its combat and as long as I have a nice amount of that, the story for me is an afterthought. Not every game can produce the quality in story telling like the witcher nor can you produce quality cut scenes with each npc interaction.
I went into the game with these concerns about immersion because of the character models and animations and for me....it doesn't bother me AT ALL. I'm old school for one. Second, one of my favorite games of all time is Morrowind and I spent countless hours spamming the same damn 2 sword swinging animations and stared at hundreds of lifeless npcs and it never took away from my immersion. Same with Skyrim and Fallout. The key to this game and the games that I mention is that the most important element in it all was its depth and gameplay which ME:A has plenty of.
Story?? Not many RPG's get this right. I usually lose track of the story once I start exploring a bit. While ME was certainly built on a strong story, for me, it always took a back seat to the gameplay and exploration which I definitely enjoy in games like these. If all you care about is how strongly the story is written or how your relationship dynamics play out in the game then you're not fully realizing what a RPG is. Its to role play. To adventure and collect loot first and foremost. Having a great story can certainly keep some motivated to finish, I'm the type of gamer where I need strategic and deep gameplay to keep me interested. I passed on ME3 because I remember people saying the game was short.
I've been a Bioware fan since Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. Those games were built around depth and good character building with your party of NPCs. ME:A doesn't lack in any of this. Sure the facial animations are wonky but it doesn't distract IMO. I just played Fallout and Skyrim recently and while those games are older, the poor npc interactions never took me out the game. In fact, 90% of RPGs are like this.
Mass Effect is a great game IMO. All I want most of all is to feel like I'm captain of the star ship enterprise and go on Captain Kirk style missions and set phasers to stun lol. ME gave me that feeling from the get go. The storyline for what it is isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. And good riddens to the dialog choices that made you good or bad. You were pretty much forced to pick a side to see different endings. Now I can speak freely and experiment with my choices.
I haven't seen mixed reviews like this in ages. So much so I had to speak on it in case there are people still on the fence. Don't trust the bias fanboyism of the true ME fans. Every vid and I mean every vid I've seen with people who bash the game admit in the very beginning that they were fans of the trilogy. Its hard to top what so many hold close to their heart. If you're like me and the combat and rpg elements is what will draw you in, this game excels. If you want the Oscar worthy performaces of the trilogy you'll be SOL.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Mass Effect: Andromeda
I don't know what dictates Strike Team success but I just had 2 different teams fail a bronze mission with an 86% success rate.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Man, if EOS is an example of how each planet will work out, this is going to be a very, very long game - in a good way.
Keep in mind I don't have a lot of time to play and I'm not a particularly gifted gamer.
I just finished the main mission on EOS and now I'm just wandering around the various sites on the planet.
I've put in probably over an hour already (just on EOS) and I'm still working on completing everything on this planet.
And this is just one planet in one system.
So many more to go.
Definitely going to get my money's worth with this baby.
BTW, great write-up Graphik. My thoughts precisely.Comment

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Has anyone else noticed the lack of music in this game? I mean, clearly, there IS music/a score but it's merely an afterthought in my playthrough. I remember ME 1-3 having the familiar Mass Effect theme and various other pieces of music in certain missions but Andromeda is just pure background music so far.
Just something I noticed.
Any other PC players in here? I'm still torn whether to go with the controller or KB+mouse. On the one hand, I like my precision with the mouse, but everything else just feels better suited for a controller.Comment

The music is not on the level of ME2 or 3 IMO, but I think its still pretty good. Doesn't quite have the same emotional feel to it that makes it memorable, but I do still like it.Comment

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Put another way....I listen to tracks from 2&3 in my car....some are just incredible....I wouldn't do that for ME:A so far....
Funny....so much in terms of style is like ME1 in this game....Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I was nervous to crack this boy open after I bought it. Once you rip that plastic off the value goes down about 40 bucks lol. Glad I followed my own thoughts cause I think the internet has taken over with this game.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
