    Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda

I was actually thinking of buying this over the weekend, however it looks like Bioware has put the Mass Effect franchise on Hiatus and halted development and will only continue to support the online modes from here out. Not saying this is gospel of course but does make me hesitant to get involved with the game if there are not going to be any more?

Electronic Arts has reportedly put a temporary halt to development of future Mass Effect games following the mixed reaction to Andromeda.

So they're just abandoning the game? If so, what a mess this whole thing turned out to be.

Maybe I am not reading it right, but I dont think they are abandoning the game, just not going to work on future releases if the franchise for an undetermined amount of time.

I read an article a couple days ago and for the life of me I can't find it. But from what I gathered they will no longer support the game until further notice.

I definitely could be wrong and misunderstood what I read.

Either way, this is kind of a sad and messed up situation you wouldn't expect from a top tier development studio and publisher.

My understanding is they are going to support the multiplayer parts of Andromeda, but will no longer patch or support single player. The IP itself is being put on "Hiatus" which means no more Mass Effect games for a long time if ever.

Yes. That's what I read. I knew I wasn't crazy. This is just such a strange situation.

Maybe I just read it wrong then, I took it as they were going to be working on a future ME right now and moved most assets over to work on Battlefront 2.

Got the Angara Avenger build last night in multiplayer and the Avenger Strike is pretty boss.

I don't understand how you can't support a game that sold so well. If they don't want to work on the next installment, that's whatever but no further updates or DLC seems like a good way to alienate your fan base.

Because the game has sold poorly. There were massive discounts less than a month after release. You almost never see that on AAA titles. Five years of development and poor sales leads for these things to happen - whether they are fair or not. 1.39M sales so far per VGChartz.

I would say that just about every console release is cheaper a month later on amazon or some other discount. But not willing to argue it because I don't know.

I think the saddest thing for me with this news is no future DLC, which I was secretly hoping for to help further flush out some of the worlds, races, characters, but alas. This hurts, for someone like me who is mostly a sports gamer its games like this that keep gaming interesting for me.

Here's to better days ahead Mass Affect.

For me, they did not do right by one of the most iconic series of the past decade.

It's not a terrible game but it's just so average. Sad way for ME to go out.

Maybe they're going to re-focus all their efforts on a new "Jade Empire"?

I don't hate the game but it doesn't feel like the old series. I'm sure it's has something to do with new characters but it's not sucking me in like the past ME games. I have similar feelings with this and Dragon Age 2. If this wasn't associated with the past series it would be a good game. ME just set such a high bar with past efforts.

Not trying to bag on the game because it's beautiful visually and fun, just not what I was expected from Bioware who usually nails it.

                                Same here.
I loved ME1 but I can't get into this one.
I think the RPG elements are too deep as well.

I've basically given up on it.
