Like many other PC users on Origin forums, this game doesn't work at all. Just a black screen. I don't even have Corsair Utility Engine either, which that is all EA support says, uninstall it.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Despite the reviews, I'm still quite excited for this game but I'm looking forward to hearing OSers impressions -- especially the PC guys -- before I decide whether it's a buy now or wait for a discount purchase.Comment

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Certainly doesn't mean it's a bad game, but for a AAA game with a 5 year development cycle and following up three 90+ rated games the answer is, yes. A year ago Andromeda scoring this wouldn't have been expected at all.
ME1-ME3 are some peoples favorite games ever and a lot of peoples from the previous generation. It's also, despite the backlash of the way ME3 ended, arguably EA and BioWare's most beloved franchise. These are games that occupied a lot peoples time and minds, and suddenly we're at point were a decent one of those is just to be accepted and more shouldn't be expected?
One can have fondness of those three previous games (I know I do) and still able be to parse through what's in front of them with Andromeda.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Wow, really thinking about taking my unopened copy back to Best Buy and just exchanging it for Ghost Recon Wildlands after reading so much negativity about this game. I still want it but may rebuy it later when some of the bugs have been worked out and it's cheaper.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Going to pick my copy up in a few minutes. I don't give a damn about reviews. I love Mass Effect, and I will enjoy this game for what it is, rather than join in on hating it for what it is lacking.
I've enjoyed many games that were rated poorly and I've disliked games that were rated high. It's a personal thing. I only use reviews for games that I know nothing about. There's no way I am not playing a new Mass Effect game. If it's not that good, I am at least going to find out on my own.Comment

Five year development cycle and I saw they tweeted that three different teams worked on it and now I see why it's not where it could have been.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda
About 3 hours into the game.
Take my impressions for what they're worth.
The animations are indeed a bit wonky. Some of the walking can be kind of funny.
And I've seen some objects morph through other objects.
If that stuff annoys you, then you probably won't enjoy the game as much because of all the constant graphical hiccups.
I also wasn't much a fan of the first 2 hours.
You're dropped into a combat situation and then eventually you begin the game like all other RPG's - by exploring a large building/area, talking to NPC's, gathering information and basically being forced to examine a 'hub' of some kind before being allowed to carry on with the game.
This isn't my cup of tea, but I knew what to expect having played ME1.
But then... the game opens up. I'm given access to my ship and various locations to investigate.
I could choose the location the game wants me to go to, or I could investigate a number of other locations.
And this is where I think the game really takes off and shines.
I'm excited to finish up my current mission and then start going off the grid to explore places at my own leisure.
For the RPG fans who enjoy crafting, etc, I think this game will keep you busy.
You can scavenge materials on the planets, scan objects and collect materials.
All of these can be used to influence research and development.
You can spend points on building blueprints for better weapons, biotics and armour.
Once the blueprints have been created, you then develop those items.
You can also skip this alltogether and just spend cash on the same objects.
There are also a slew of skills you can focus on for leveling up.
From basic combat, to tech to biotics. You can really customize your character as you see fit by following various streams.
Me? I'm going straight-up soldier.
Speaking of which - combat.
I love the combat. I love the auto-cover system as well.
One of the things I really enjoy about the combat is that as a newbie soldier, I can't just place the crosshairs on an enemy and hammer on the trigger button.
There's recoil on your weapon and because your skill starts at 0, you'll be all over the map when firing.
Controlled bursts is your friend until you gain better weapons and abilities.
The AI seems pretty smart too. You can't just run into the fray and expect to Rambo yourself out of every situation. You'll be cut down to pieces.
All in all, I'm happy with this game.
I can see myself getting lost in the galaxy for hours while barely touching much of the storyline - much like I did with ME1.
When I played the original, I didn't unlock a main character until near the end.
I just loved doing all the side-missions and visiting every system I could find.
And I think I'll be doing mostly that in ME:A as well.
If slightly wonky animations, and exaggerated pouty-lip, lip-syncing drive you crazy, then maybe stay away.
But if you like the ME series, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
And even if you've never played ME before, if you're into RPG's with great TPS combat and a long, exploratory game, I think you'll like it as well.Last edited by Money99; 03-21-2017, 11:51 AM.Comment
