I didn't like the way it looked. Maybe it won't be entirely real-time combat. But it's definitely not original FFVII combat. And that's what I was hoping it would be. And think it should be. So I can say with 99.9% certainty I'm not getting it. And that's fine. I'm not mad over it. I'm disappointed, but I'll get over it.

Visuals are beautiful and I'm surprised that I didn't hate the little bit of voice acting I heard, which is another plus. I'm holding out hope that there is an option for "classic" combat because, like PVarck, I'm sorely disappointed (though not at all surprised) with the combat system change.

          Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake

Was incredibly excited when I saw this thread was updated. Then I saw the combat was changed.

Well, that's an easy pass unfortunately.

EDIT: Well, I read a rundown on how the combat actually appears to work on reddit. I'd still MUCH prefer the classic system, but I guess it doesn't seem too bad.

            Don't like this.

The price of each of these parts (and the total cost) might be the dagger for me, if they try to gouge too much.

Wow! What are they doing to this game?

There is one thing that can salvage that news for me, and it needs to be clarified - whether or not they're re-making the entire compilation and releasing THAT as a multi-part. That includes 4 games, one full-length movie, and one OVA, and provides a lot of backstory (and in Advent's case, afterstory). That would change things dramatically, and an episodic approach would make sense.

I think the chances of there being a physical version of this went way down with this news though. If there is one, it would have to be done like Starcraft 2 (which I kind of doubt any developer will ever try again).

Counter-point: Bravely Default, also a Square JRPG and also turn-based, reviewed and sold really well, on the Nintendo 3DS of all things (well enough to get a sequel). I think Fire Emblem: Awakening was another turn-based game that was well-received. I'm sure people more in the know about the genre than I can list a few others.

That said, maybe Square thinks that audience doesn't own consoles, or isn't big enough to support a full console game? Which doesn't really make sense to me either, as I don't think anyone owns a handheld as a primary gaming device. I'm guessing this is just the route they want to take the remake for whatever creative reason.

Saw the video....my mind went numb with excitement.

Read that article about this being episodic....my mind went numb with disappointment.

Starting to wonder if we're getting a full remake of the game, or just bits and pieces of it.

How the hell do you take the greatness that is Final Fantasy 7 and remake it.. But strip down some of the best mechanics?

Maybe it won't be as bad but damn, I want my turn based final fantasy.

I think if it were what people expected - Final Fantasy with better graphics and improved gameplay - it would be Remastered.

I can't recall a game being called a Remake. Sounds like a new way to say Reboot.

Even from that trailer, there is no way I think this is simply a Remastered version of Final Fantasy. This is more likely a reimagining, a remake, a reboot, whatever word you want to use.

I'm fine with it. Give me those characters, that story and world, and I'll be happy.

Yeah, things have been changing over the years for battle systems (FF 12, 13+++, now 15, etc). Whatever the battle system they use, oh well, I'll adapt. I'm buying it for the story, the characters, the world, the nostalgia I had playing that as my first ever game on my brand spanking new PS1 that I got for Christmas (and didn't even know existed until I opened it, it ended up being a total surprise gift out of left field).

For the classic battle system, I have the original game, which I'm currently in the middle of playing right now on PS4, doing some grinding and leveling currently outside Junon.
