I can at least be a little competitive in most shooters, but I get absolutely crushed in Gears. Demoralizing to the point I already deleted the beta since its only versus. I'll get the game for the campaign sp and coop. I had a good time beating all the others. I hope there is a good horde mode.

Re: Gears of War 4 (X1)
Played around 10 matches and it's pretty fun. Projectile aiming threw me off the first game, because I was used to center of the screen aiming and using the COG damage symbol in Gears: UE.
Two things I hope are toned down or given options to turn off completely: camera shake during roadie run and blood splatter on the screen are both overdone.
It really feels like a beta and not the polished marketing "betas" we're accustomed to playing for games only a couple months from release. After playing, I believe Rod when he says it's actually an alpha build.
And it's little to do with how it runs and looks. It holds 60fps fairly well, even at this stage, which I feel is the most important thing. I'm actually surprised it's 1080p, considering other multiplayer games on Xbox One that target 60fps tend to use either dynamic resolution scaling, 900p, or 720p. It's just clear there's somethings missing from animations to sound. The latter is a bit flat to me; not as crunchy and punchy as Gears typically is.
It's hard to explain and something you will experience when playing the beta. The overall feel just isn't quite there yet, but I do think The Coalition is on the right track and this isn't going to be a 343 Halo 4 situation for them as their first outing with Gears.
It's hard to say much else, because I think a lot is going to change by release.Comment

It should get a lot easier next week once the Beta goes public and anyone with an Xbox One can play.Last edited by jyoung; 04-21-2016, 02:52 PM.Comment

Re: Gears of War 4 (X1)
Also, I've seen a lot saying it looks more cartoony and that's completely due to how flat the lighting is currently. This build doesn't even have basic baked lighting features that come standard with UE4.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Gears of War 4 (X1)
sound are definitely not up to Gears' usual standards. I think that's probably just a Beta thing, though. I doubt the final version will look and sound this bad.
People have to remember that this is a real Beta that's pretty far away from the game's actual release date, and not just a server stress test like a lot of recent "Betas" have been.
Definitely no doubt in my mind with how far back this beta is that all will be well by release.Horseshoes & HollyWoodComment

Play against the bots, learn when to hard aim, when to pop shot , when to blind fire and when to haul ***. Most importantly never push an enemy when they have the right side advantage, almost always a for sure way to be blown to pieces.
Advance wise most of the top players know how to use the environment to dodge shots aka wall bouncing. This is something you should practice and will take awhile to get down.

Re: Gears of War 4 (X1)
I never liked GoW multi-player and I still don't. Don't like being forced to play as a grub, the pace is too slow, the characters lack agility, and when you roadie you become even less mobile. The MP seems dated compared to newer games hasn't evolved much imo, this is strictly a campaign game for me, looking forward to that.

yes it is availableEA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment
