They should have a "classic" horde mode. I still think the best horde mode was the original in Gears 2

I liked 3 as well. The progression system of unlocking better defenses was much better than this junk card system they have now. You had something to work towards that didn't feel like a pointless grind. They need to buff the horde rewards or the mode is gonna die.

You should get an Operations Pack after each level. Pretty much every other game that has a similar system works this way. I got only a few hundred credits for completing 50 waves of Horde. In addition to more credits, I feel like you should get an Elite Pack for completing 50 waves. Overall, the current system and progression is really bad.

Also, things like Bounties are terrible in multiplayer and co-op, as they promote bad player habits.

If you actually want to unlock things playing horde puts you at a severe disadvantage. The best thing to do credits wise is probably play execution. Since the matches are quick and I'm pretty sure you get 500 bonus every 5 levels. I have no idea how they did not think this through. The card system discourages people from playing a mode they hyped up endlessly.

And ya throw in the bounties issue. It's impossible to play horde with randoms because of that and all it takes is two randoms to totally ruin a match. I haven't played a horde match yet where all 5 people were around at wave 21.

My gosh I suck at this game. Played some MP, and got destroyed. I'm way too used to playing games like BF, R6, etc. Need to relearn the GoW.

Play coop vs against normal bots. Then gradually move up as you start dominating. It's actually a pretty fun mode.

This new Gears feels very good. Haven't played in a long time but the shotty and longshot feel perfect I think.

I really hate that nobody uses a headset. I really miss the days of Gears 1 where the lobbies and the dead player chat was an absolute blast. So much trash talking and good times were had chatting with randoms, making fun of the remaining players etc. Ive played about 10 MP games so far and have not heard anyone speak.

Very frustrating considering this is a game that is so dependant upon strategy and communication to be successful.

Other than that, really enjoying this game

I had to make a house rule to not use the hammer burst unless I'm playing solo. It's overpowered right now and downs people across the map in two shots with actives and three without.

I couldn't imagine being on the end of a group of five in KOH that's good at map position because it's no way you'll make it a game.

We should get an OS crew on some multiplayer soon, unless there already is and I wasn't invited. Try coordinating a night 5 of us can get together and cause some problems.

Wow this thread died down pretty quick. I have a question for anybody in the know. I only played the very first one as I have been more a Playstation guy. Is any of the other modes able to be played single player? Besides a few guys here on OS I really don't have a lot of people I know that play shooters and I really don't like playing with randoms. If horde or whatever it is could be played single player I think I would jump on this while you can get all four games for one price.

The lack of working up to nothing in horde got to me. I can't believe I'm gonna say this but I might be done. The excessive grind to different outfits isn't really much of a motivating factor. Hopefully things change. Wish they would have left horde mode as it was in gears 3. They even could have included the packs if they did that. It still would have felt like I had something to work towards.

Games that are centered around microtransactions are just a huge turnoff for me. I didn't expect this at all.

I believe you can set up a private horde and go it alone, I'll double check in a bit.

Edit: Yes you can run horde alone, just hit the horde tab then select host private match.

I'm actually not surprised it's died down this fast, as it's not new player friendly when it comes to movement and other shooters coming out right behind it (Battlefield/COD).
