Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PS4/XBox1/PC)
I'm super interested in the game and how it's historically accurate BUT I'm also very leery of the combat system. In all the videos I've seen so far, it looks very clunky and not worthy of a $60 price tag.
As of now, I'm waiting for a steam sale which I'm sure won't be very long.Comment

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PS4/XBox1/PC)
Since this game is based so much on its past history, I guess its time for a history lesson before this releases. We're under The Bohemian Czech Republic 1403, under The Province of the Roman Empire at that time. Was looking for more information but couldn't find anything with the exception of wiki unfortunately. I also put in the time frame just before the Hussite Rule which shows who was in-power about 50-100 years earlier which was kind of considered, "a golden age."
Are there any history major thinking of getting the game and knows the Bohemian Period, can we pick your brain?
Spoiler
I'm wondering is there a way to change history by preventing the execution of Hus and stop the Hussite War? Hmmm
Luxembourg dynasty
The House of Luxembourg accepted the invitation to the Bohemian throne with the marriage to the Premyslid heiress, Elizabeth and the crowning subsequent of John I of Bohemia in 1310. His son, Charles IV became King of Bohemia in 1346. He founded Charles University in Prague, central Europe's first university, two years later.
His reign brought Bohemia to its peak both politically and in total area, resulting in his being the first King of Bohemia to also be elected as Holy Roman Emperor. Under his rule the Bohemian crown controlled such diverse lands as Moravia, Silesia, Upper Lusatia and Lower Lusatia, Brandenburg, an area around Nuremberg called New Bohemia, Luxembourg, and several small towns scattered around Germany
Hussite Bohemia
During the ecumenical Council of Constance in 1415, Jan Hus, the rector of Charles University and a prominent reformer and religious thinker, was sentenced to be burnt at the stake as a heretic. The verdict was passed despite the fact that Hus was granted formal protection by Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg prior to the journey. Hus was invited to attend the council to defend himself and the Czech positions in the religious court, but with the emperor's approval, he was executed on 6 July 1415. The execution of Hus, as well as five consecutive papal crusades against followers of Hus, forced the Bohemians to defend themselves. Their defense and rebellion against Roman Catholics became known as the Hussite Wars.
The uprising against imperial forces was led by a former mercenary, Jan Žižka of Trocnov. As the leader of the Hussite armies, he used innovative tactics and weapons, such as howitzers, pistols, and fortified wagons, which were revolutionary for the time, and established Žižka as a great general who never lost a battle.
After Žižka's death, Prokop the Great took over the command for the army, and under his lead the Hussites were victorious for another ten years, to the sheer terror of Europe. The Hussite cause gradually splintered into two main factions, the moderate Utraquists and the more fanatic Taborites. The Utraquists began to lay the groundwork for an agreement with the Catholic Church and found the more radical views of the Taborites distasteful. Additionally, with general war-weariness and yearning for order, the Utraquists were able to eventually defeat the Taborites in the Battle of Lipany in 1434. Sigismund said after the battle that "only the Bohemians could defeat the Bohemians."
Despite an apparent victory for the Catholics, the Bohemian Utraquists were still strong enough to negotiate freedom of religion in 1436. This happened in the so-called Basel Compacts, declaring peace and freedom between Catholics and Utraquists. It would only last for a short period of time, as Pope Pius II declared the Basel Compacts to be invalid in 1462.
In 1458, George of Podebrady was elected to ascend to the Bohemian throne. He is remembered for his attempt to set up a pan-European "Christian League", which would form all the states of Europe into a community based on religion. In the process of negotiating, he appointed Leo of Rozmital to tour the European courts and to conduct the talks. However, the negotiations were not completed, because George's position was substantially damaged over time by his deteriorating relationship with the Pope.

As I thought, no early reviews yet. But we did get a new launch trailer.

I watched a stream last night. It was extremely buggy.
That said, it was pre-patch and all of the bugs I saw should easily be fixed in a patch the size of the launch patch.

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PS4/XBox1/PC)
I haven't read any reviews yet, but I played two hours last night and really like it so far. With that said, I would think that this game is not for everyone.
My first scrape was a bare knuckles fist-fight (because I don't own anything else so far lol), and it is not a button masher. I won (it was not difficult as an introduction to brawling, plus I'm not that great of a player), but it took me 7 or 8 solid minutes to whittle my opponent down to the point where he yielded.
I have only encountered one bug so far, being that during some dialogue exchanges, the camera might pan around and put me inside the hollow head of your character.
Really loving how deep it is, and reminds me of Elder Scrolls games in that if you pick a bunch of herbs, you'll see a notice pop up that says that the associated skill just leveled up. The long fist fight I had early on leveled up my unarmed a couple of levels, and also another one (I think it was called "warfare").
The game so far is very story driven in the beginning with lots of dialogue choices and tons of cutscenes of storytelling and contextual info. I usually blast past that kind of stuff, but I've bought in to this character and game world, so I'm soaking it up like a sponge. The codex also has a lot of interesting reading on period daily life stuff.
After two hours (non-rushed), I made it through what was the introductory set up to the story, and although I didn't feel restricted before, I think this is the point where the world will really open up and I'll start going out (exploring) like I normally would in an open-world setting.
I'm ready for this work day to conclude so I can go back to Bohemia.NCAA FB 2003 - 2014 Dynasties

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PS4/XBox1/PC)
I've read some reviews and every review says the game has a beautiful world, one of the best stories in gaming, and a lot of great ideas.
The bugs are hurting the scores. Apparently there is another major patch coming in two weeks.

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PS4/XBox1/PC)
I agree with this. The game is a must buy when it gets ironed out a bit. It's the kind of game I want in the future where game play realism and story-telling is its strength.
I'm already in deep with other games. I have no doubt they'll clean it up, especially if its in 2 weeks.Comment

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PS4/XBox1/PC)
This games controls are so clunky amd its so unforgiving that i almost want to punt puppies on the ps4 version. Im all for a realistic experience but to die 30 times in the first bit of combat when you only get a 2 minute combat tutorial is driving me insane. It barely gives you an idea of what to do and then suddenly im put in a no win situation. Im getting really frustrated lol.
To me the controls are horribly ported and you cant even remap them on consoles.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Just go to the training guy in Rattay, you can choose different things to practiceThis games controls are so clunky amd its so unforgiving that i almost want to punt puppies on the ps4 version. You can do free training, and if you beat the guy, he will teach you new skills.
I just learned how to riposte.Last edited by Cpre5; 02-13-2018, 07:34 PM.Comment

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PS4/XBox1/PC)
That's good to know. I've just made it to Rattay, but I haven't had a chance to do much there yet. Question- Have you noticed if your skills improve (level up) whilst doing the free training?
I just finished a four hour straight gaming session, so I'm about 6 hours in now altogether, and I am enjoying myself immensely. This game is right up my alley. It's quite a bit scripted getting off the ground in the first few hours, but due to the quality of the writing and story, I don't mind at all.
I'm going to list a few things that have impressed me and/or been one of those "man that's really cool" moments:
- the hunger/food system and fatigue/sleep system is persistent, but not overdone (yes you will get hungry and have to address it and eat, but food is fairly plentiful and I have not stressed about it.)
- I appreciated the fact that I found a certain type of weapon, and I could wield it, but because my character doesn't possess a high enough minimum agility rating, it gave me an alert that I wouldn't be very effective using it.
- The writing and voice acting is much better than I anticipated.
- The lighting is really well done. Walking around at night with a torch, or entering a room with only a little bit of candlelight feels right.
- Combat is not punishingly difficult so far. I was braced for it being really hard, but the actual swordplay has not been frustrating so far, albeit I have only really encountered a few bandits that are likely low level, but I've dispatched them pretty quickly.
- The armor system. OMG I love having the layered armor. That gratifying feeling when you peel a gambeson and better shoes off of a thug who was coming at you with bad intentions. I'm in heaven in this department.
- Ok, there was free kettle of food, so I thought to myself "ooh, I just ate a carrot, but I think I'll top off the 'ol tank with some free soup...don't mind if I do..." So then it gives me a debuff, including an icon of a pig to indicate that I've overeaten and I will be clumsy and sluggish for a while! (this hits too close to home, like in real life lol)
Ok, to balance it out fairly, here's a few things I've seen that can be improved:
- just a few glitches like bad NPC pathing while they walk around and get stuck on something (only once saw that); a cow standing on top of a fence; (but nothing anywhere close to annoying or detrimental to the game)
- performance on XB1 is not the best. Not a huge deal to me, but some textures are kinda low res, and I've seen a little bit of pop-in, but nothing too bad on frame rate so far. Overall graphic style is well done, but I think the PC screens before release had my expectations a little too high.
- Like the ACG review posted earlier in this thread, there's not enough wildlife outside the towns. I think all I've seen so far is a butterfly, but it must be noted that I have not even tried to venture into the woods yet.
Ok, this is probably not a spoiler, and definitely not a story spoiler, but just in case I'll present this next one in spoiler mode:
SpoilerSo when the opening credits finally rolled, it was like 5 hours into my playtime, and it was really well done with some good music and sweeping panoramas and scenes. If this game didn't already have its hooks in me, then that moment left no doubt. Great job Warhorse!
Note: If you are considering buying this game, you should really invest some time watching gameplay videos and watching and reading reviews. The ACG video linked earlier was a fair review. It pointed out many of the pros and cons that I agree with. I realize that I've been gushing about this game, and I really do dig it, but I'd like to reiterate my opinion that this type of game won't be for everyone. I like games like Horizon Zero Dawn, AC: Origins, Far Cry games, & Zelda: BotW, but this one is not really like those. Whereas those games excel in getting you into the action really quick and having a sense of "go go go", this one presents itself in a very different way. Yes, there are moments of action and combat that feel intense, but half of the fun in this one includes slowing down and appreciating the depth of the game world and system they've created, and how much care they have put into it. It's pretty much a medieval life simulator wrapped around what's shaping up to be a very compelling story.NCAA FB 2003 - 2014 Dynasties
