SF5 DLC DETAILS
Capcom has announced that the first version of Street Fighter 5 you buy will be the last one you will ever have to purchase for the lifetime of the game, as all future content for it will be available digitally, and will be either earnable in-game, or free.
In a statement made to IGN, Capcom outlined a hefty chunk of their post-launch support plan for the upcoming entry of their flagship fighting series. First off, any and all balance changes will be completely free; you will never be required to buy a newer version of Street Fighter 5 in order to keep up with the current meta and player-base.
As you might imagine, there will come a time when Capcom will want to expand the roster beyond the starting cast, which we were told will be comprised of 12 returning characters and four completely new ones for a healthy day one crop of 16 fighters. The method by which new characters will be added however, is where Capcom is making big changes.
While specific timings weren't discussed, new characters will be added bit by bit over time, rather than all at once with new editions of the game. Players will be able to earn these new characters for free, using in-game currency humorously called “Fight Money” (cue Balrog sound bytes). Alternatively, if you don't have the necessary Fight Money, and don't want to wait to grind it out, you can purchase individual characters with a premium currency called “Zenny” which costs actual cash.
Though actual dollar/Fight Money amounts haven't been settled yet, this is a pretty big departure from Capcom's typical cycle of releasing large, paid content bundles once every year or two. This new method allows players to stay up to date balance-wise without spending a dime, and gives them the option to only buy/unlock whatever new characters interest them instead of being forced to get them all in order to keep up with the rest of the player-base.
This is essentially the end of the Turbo/Super/Ultra style content progression that Street Fighter has become known for.Comment

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
I wonder if my garbage skills will be able to acquire any of the characters with fight money.Comment

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
Not to sound negative but I wouldn't be surprised if the new characters cost such a ridiculous amount of "fight money" that it wouldn't even be worth grinding...lol
I mean, Capcom has to make something off DLC right?Comment

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
It's going to be hard to find a sweet spot for it since you want people to buy the characters and being honest about it most people are probably going to just fork over the real money for them. I wonder how much winning is going to factor in to earning fight money.
In other news we have a new fighting game coming from Seth Killian

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
I'm sure it will be similar to 2k's vc. I mean yeah, you could technically grind, but the allure of just spending 20 dollars for 5 characters will be too much for some people.Am I trolling? Am I serious? Did Dennis Green and the Cardinals really "let them off the hook"? What about the children? Find out next weekComment

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
I think I have to come to grips with the fact that my Ken isn't very good lol.
I had been neglecting my fighting games, so I've been running SF the past couple of days. Probably gonna hop on MKX and Guilty Gear later as well.Comment

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
I'm interested in another new fighting game, pokken, it's a pokemon fighting game(yeah i know that sounds weird), but it's made by the people that made tekken. So i'd give it a try if it plays well.
I'm ok with the way capcom is going with streetfighter 5, if i can unlock the characters on my own without paying, that's definitely a step in the right direction, waay too much unnecessary dlc these days when a bunch of it should just come with the game anyway, if they wanna give people that are more impulsive the option to buy it, thats completely fine, best of both worlds.
Also, random, but tell me why when i lost a close match to this guy in MKX, he plugs in his mic, and plays. . .selena gomez? Like wtf, and he sent me to audio messages that were just selena gomez songs lmao.Comment

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
This is a perfect example of why I keep coming back to KI. Its only a matter of time before it ends up in the same tier as the big names, especially once it hits pc.

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
Started messing with Juri today and already have more wins with her than I did with sorry *** Ken. This game is pretty old now, but I understand why it's had so much longevity. I'm having a blast. I hope SF5 is as good.Comment

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
Yeah, MKX is a much easier fighting game. I mean i didn't really play much mk9 online, this is my first year really getting into the online and playing more competitively in Mortal kombat and i'm winning 70% of my matches, my ratio in street fighter online isn't quite as good lol.Comment

Re: The OS Fighter's Lounge
It may also just be that MKX is new and there are still "casuals" playing. I'd guess that if you came back in a year or two the only people you'd run into would be those folks that have their 50/50 resets down.Comment
