Re: Biggest Sleeper and Biggest Disappointment of this year??

Biggest Dissapointment: Legends of Wrestling 3.

I was reading the Q and A's on OS and with the answers I got from the producer I thought the game would be real good. Then I played the game and within the first minute I was wondering why the players were going right through each other and why they had teleport powers across the ring. The game is nothing but a coaster.

    Biggest Sleeper: ESPN NHL 2k5

I enjoyed 2k4 but was pissed after a producer said the super goalies were gone and previews from websites said it was also toned down .... which was false. So I lowered my expectations for 2k5 and was blown away. IMO NHL 2k5 is the sports game of the year so far. Sure there are bugs in the game but the gameplay is incredible. I don't have one single complaint about the gameplay (that's never happened before). And the game is packed with extra's like 15 party games, dream team ladder, skills competition, fantasy rinks, arcade mode, etc... all for 30 bones Canadian. Simply incredible and kudos to KUSH.

I'm glad Graphik agrees with me. I came on here and trumpeted Deus Ex: IW and got almost no response. It's a FANTASTIC game and cheap. You can find it for XBox or PC.

Biggest disappointment; definitely FABLE! I bought the game and strategy guide (I got fooled into buying it , but I get a 15 dollar ebgames card to use for other games I want). I played fable, got through training and did a few missions and I realized this game is not what I really want in a game. I am a morrowind game type fan, with total open-ended gameplay and fable was not like it. I know I don't know much about fable, but yeah, I sold it already and will buy a basketball game with it.

Sleeper; probably athens olympics 2004 for ps2, I played it at my friends house and it's very fun to play through many of the events, especially the game modes.

Re: Biggest Sleeper and Biggest Disappointment of this year??

Tough to pick sleepers these days because every release has mega coverage and reviews. That being said.

                  Dissappointments..

NCAA 2005 - This is a weird one because I do still enjoy it and do play it but if I take a step back and look at the overall game, EA messed up. I think they have a new producer (The Nickelback guy)and he did not do a good job. The graphics need work, no doubt. But it's the game play that really suffers. The slowdown is there no question, the passing game is shaky at best, special teams are really horrible when you think about it, and the sliders don't really seem to make the impact that they should. I'm expecting a big step forward in 2006, if not I sure hope we have a second option although that seems unlikely..

*MVP 2004 (XBOX) - This get's an asterisk because on Xbox this game was flawed (progression, lefty HR issue, Lack of CPU steals) It was very frustrating for me. HOWEVER, and this is important, the PC version ROCKED. Thanks to the patches and the modding community MVP 2004 for the PC was the most fun I've ever had with a baseball game and I STILL play it. Just awesome.

NFL 2k5 - I could just never get into this one. And the thing is I loved 2k4 but for whatever reason 2K5 just didn't do it for me. I know it had some gameplay issues, but that's not what bothered me. I just couldn't have FUN playing it. And at the end of the day that's what a game's supposed to be FUN.

                  Sleepers

NHL 2K5 - I bought this game on a whim. I gotta admit the price tag is what drew me in. And I'm glad it did. Like others have said it has some minor issues, but I LOVE the gameplay. If you slow down the speed, turn down the turbo, raise fatigue, and turn down passing and shooting accuracy you will get the best simulation of hockey ever made. For $20 you would be crazy not to pick this game up if you have even a mild interest in hockey. Black Box deserves your support!

Madden 2005 - I haven't really been heavily into Madden since 2002. 2003 was brutal, I hated it. 2004 I got for free, I liked it but didn't love it by any stretch of the imagination. 2005 I did not pre-order, wasn't gonna buy it until I played it at my local gamestop. I was hooked. I love the gameplay, defense it so rewarding to play. The defensive audibles rock, the hit stick seemed like it would be a gimmick but IMO was done just right. Every game to me feels tight like most NFL games in real life. Getting a long yardage play is possible but you have to earn it. I am amazed at how much more beefed up the game is under the hood. This game really shocked me as to how much fun I had and am still having. It's the first year in many that I actually like EA's pro football game better than their college offering.

** One final note. I must be one of the few, but I actually LOVED Full Spectrum Warrior. On Master Seargent it took me about 30 hours to finish and I played it like a crack monkey. I am a military game freak however so that may explain why. I really hope they continue the series but sales will dictate that.

                              Sleeper:

Riddick - I'll be another to add to the vote. My friend showed it to me and I was just amazed. A really great game that is absolutely gorgeous (in a very disturbing and brutal sort of way). Good gameplay, interesting story, and a game that actually feels like a movie.

                              Disappointment

NCAA 05 - Love college football, but sold it REAL quick. First time I've ever sold the game before the next one came out.

On a side note...I've really enjoyed Fable. I've had a fun time with it, and think it's pretty fun. Definitely more of a Zelda than a Morrowind, but that's cool with me. It still may be short (I haven't finished it yet), but I'm having a fun time doing a lot of side quests, getting married (have 3 wives), and just trying to do as much as possible. However, all that being said, I really stayed out of the Fable hype machine, so I didn't know what was supposedly missing when it came out.
