For years, hardcore fans have been asking for a TMNT game that lets players team up for a little co-op action, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is exactly what they’ve been looking for. And if online co-op isn’t your cup of tea, you can always complete the campaign individually and dynamically switch between Turtles in the heat of battle.

Long-time fans will undoubtedly recognize the art. The developers took a lot of inspiration from IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series, blending it with their own distinctive visuals and animation. And lets not forget about the combat. PlatinumGames’ mastery of fast-paced, silky smooth combat is on full display, but referring to this game as an “Action Brawler” doesn’t really do it justice. Director Eiro Shirahama explains it this way:

I thought Platinum knocked it out of the park with Transformers last year, so this has me excited. 4 player online co-op too.

Color me interested if there's "couch co-op".

I'd love to rekindle some of those old memories of Power Rangers, TMNT, and Battletoads, and Double Dragon on the NES/SNES.

It wouldn't be quite the same or even have much of a nostalgic feel, but those style co-op games are severely lacking and have been for a while. I can't think of too many decent games I can sit down and play split screen with friends.

Activision has finally, officially, announced PlatinumGames’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, after weeks’ worth of leaked bits of information.

They describe the game as a third-person, team-based brawler, with each Turtle having his own playstyle and abilites. The campaign will be playable either in single-player or co-op. The setting, of course, will be New York, and you’ll be up against “aliens, mutants and the Foot Clan,” fighting bosses like Bebop, Rocksteady, and Shredder.

So looks like couch co-op is in, day 1 buy for me.

I'm in. I don't even care. Looks great. Saddened the previous TMNT game was only an Xbox exclusive, I believe. This one is looking good. While there is couch co-op, I'm hoping for online MP options as well. Both is good!

I don't think there's going to be couch co-op. The press release only mentions online co-op.

Given this is a 3rd person action game, you wouldnt be able to fit everyone on the same screen (its not a side scrolling brawler like the TMNT arcade game) so you'd have to go split screen. Can't say I can remember a character action game that let you do that. Especially since you would have to deal with frame rate drop coming from split screen play, and Platinum usually hits 60FPS in there games.

Not necessarily. The LEGO games get you all in one picture (as does Fat Princess), though LEGO is only two-players and Fat Princess is more of an isometric view.

With the lego games, you can do a fixed split screen.

Anyone remember GTA San Andreas two-player rampages? Those were awesome.
