Re: Battlefield 1 (PC, PS4, XBOX One)

Release date is 10/21 or about 5.5 months.

Hopefully DICE learned their lesson after BF4's launch as Hardline and Battlefront had barely any issues, albeit with a smaller customer base and likely lower budget. I also hope they continue utilizing the CTE as it absolutely saved BF4 and made it a classic.

I still play BF4 after nearly three years but I'm a bit nervous how this game will play out. I would presume the different options, customization and different gun stats (balance) that makes BF4 so unique, being there were so many ways I could choose to play the game, will be far less too, right? WW1 was nearly a century ago so the amount of choices I would presume pales to the options in today.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

No doubt that people will be looking to find others to group with. But I'm more than sure that by the time this game comes out these types of posts are going to be buried behind hundreds upon hundreds of subsequent posts.

I'm sure we'll make a grouping thread when it's near release.

I'm curious as to how DICE will make trench warfare interesting. In WW1 one side would attack a trench, get mowed down, the other side would counter attack, get mowed down, and then repeat this process for weeks or months.
And it sounds like that brutality will be there in this. Flamethrowers, trench clubs, freaking shovels to the face of bastards!

If I remember right, they also made brief mentions of bayonets and bayonet charges and the sort. So they're definitely not shying away from the brutality.

Then you throw in those massive, behemoth WWI era battleships, bi-planes, zeppelins, horses (and hopefully horse charges with swords drawn), the giant lumbering WWI tanks. I can't wait! Is it October yet?

Edit - Oh yeah, count me in for the PS4 mega-group.

This series has been mostly driven by multiplayer, and I always run the campaign before I even dive into the multiplayer but I'd rather see them focus on an all multiplayer FPS for this series and I'd still purchase Day 1.

Imo, these sort of campaigns don't have much replay value anyway.

LOL..They might as well just get rid of it completely. No point in having these tacked on campaigns that are basically just long tutorials.

Focus is a big problem these days. Games feel the need to be so many things at once. You can't just be a pure FPS, you need unlockable RPG content. You can't have turn-based strategy or RPGs anymore, needs more action and Quick Time Events. You can't have a single player action game without spending 5 months half-assing an online multiplayer mode that will die out in less than half a year. Not every game needs to be 10,000 things all at once. That focus was a good thing in older games They were allowed to focus on their core ideas and refine the hell out of them instead trying to be everything and please everybody.

Some of these packaged deals end up very fun (like Dark Souls) but not every game needs to mash elements together in a clumsy attempt to reach a mass market. It's a waste of resources at best, and an active detriment to a game's quality at worst.

As much as I agree with you and Tommyklaid, the reality is I think these devs feel like they have to include a campaign. I absolutely love Rainbow Six Siege and was very excited to read the reviews when the game came out. Sadly, almost every review I read slammed the game because of the lack of a single player campaign.

The irony of it all is that the reviewers reasoned this didn't give the gamer "value". Makes no sense to me, what's going to give you more bang for the buck, a 5-10 hour campaign or tens to hundreds of hours of online play?

Re: Campaings. If there isn't a campaign I won't be buying. It's that simple for me. It definitely possible to ha e a great campaign AND a great MP experience... it doesn't have to be one or the other. The devs just have to be good enough to pull that off.

Also, I'd argue the Bad Company series was very much known for its campaign. Either way, here's hoping the WW1 setting loosens the reigns on the campaign team to give us something special.

                          There is a campaign.

                          Good choice on buying it.

I'm pretty sure that trailer was all single player. If it wasn't then I can say with a good degree of confidence that BF1 will have the best multiplayer in the history of video games.
