Re: Spider-Man (PS4 Exclusive)
It was just an initial comment about the potential. The fighting style in Spiderman would fit Black Panther the best of all the what you'd call main Avengers where it wouldn't have to be changed a ton to work.
I don't think Disney should put all of their eggs in one basket, and we don't know if the upcoming Avengers game will even be a success yet.
Until then, they could still capitalize off of other stand-alone games, but who knows what their plans are.Comment

Re: Spider-Man (PS4 Exclusive)
While playing Arkham City, if you put on the Batman Beyond suit, turn on detective mode, and get really drunk, it's basically Daredevil.
If they just give the characters to talented developers and let them do what they do they'll be fine. If they try to micromanage and turn out movie tie-ins, they won't, but it's not like Disney's running out of cash so I believe. Exhibit A turned out pretty nicely. Need a new MUA though.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Spider-Man (PS4 Exclusive)
I beat the game last night. I was expecting more of a "showdown" with the main baddie, but overall this game was great. There were some moments where the game stumbled or took some missteps with the narrative, but I felt they had delivered what they set out on delivering very well.
I've posted more than enough about the gameplay so I'm going to focus on the narrative since I've wanted to avoid that before completing the story.
Spoiler
Man, there is A LOT going on by the credits - Miles gets bitten, Harry is apparently sick and living like Poison Ivy (or would it be Ivan?), Norman is the creator of all problems, MJ delivers one of the most eye-rolling lines ever, Spider-Man cleans up 6 villains in the span of 3 missions, and they ****ing take Aunt May away from me.
Unfortunately not everything here is clear during the course of the game. Harry is on vay-cay in Europe and that explains his absence. The Research Stations do a decent job of building up Harry's penchant for environmental rights and uses that as a connection to his mother. Norman is barely a presence in this game until the end when he delivers a truly master-class in villain negotiation calling out Otto while hanging over the edge of his own building. Otto somehow corrals 5 villains onto his squad of six promising them all invaluable solutions that only his mind can produce. There is a flippant "are they still a thing" storyline between Peter and MJ which seemed mostly unfounded throughout. Aunt May is not completely useless as she ends up running FEAST, but since she had no impact on any of the drivers of the narrative of course she is the one to die. I'm guessing this is to give Peter some type of LOSS and more skin in the game.
My biggest gripe is a lot of important beats, developments, and information are either delivered via cellphone conversations, voice-mails, or off-screen completely. The juxtaposition between the fantastic presentation of the actual cinematic scenes and being filled in on Otto's turn via voice-mails and lab recordings is jarring. As soon as Otto appeared on the screen I was giddy. I was already picturing establishing a teacher/mentor relationship between Peter and Otto and show them having a close friendship built upon mutual admiration. While the skeleton is there and enough flesh on the bones to warrant Otto's turn as heartbreaking to Peter I'm not sure if it was enough for me.
A lot of the game depended upon some level of familiarity with these characters and their history. This Spider-Man is seasoned and already put many of his famous rogues into RAFT by the start of the game. Yet, this familiarity ruins some of the buildup and undercuts some of the tension. You hope Otto won't turn, but you know he's going to. Peter will be betrayed because they worked together for a couple missions, but ultimately most of the game's interactions with Otto is relegated to voice recordings delivered voice-mail or in the lab. My problem with this is it forces the gamer to split the focus between whatever they're doing and the sudden invasion of NARRATIVE STUFF.
Martin Li is severely under-developed as he's forced into his villain ego by the end of the first act and of whom we only really know that he runs FEAST and by association must be a good, kind man? I understand they needed to build up to what, in the moments, feel like incredible story beats in Acts II and III, but lacks the foundation to actually land heavily. The gamer finds out most details after the fact during the admittedly emotional climax. Martin Li killed his parents because of the experimental treatment Norman and Otto cooked up. Otto scored 5 super-villain free agents by promising to make them things. Harry is not only sick, but super sick. All of these details come from some other place rather than the character it is actually concerning. There are moments when this method of delivery works - such as when Peter is investigating Otto's lab - but to rope off these important elements as investigational fodder found from stumbling through apartments or listening to audio files feels like an after-thought.
Still, I understand. The information. It's all there. The development, while out of step with any pacing or logical continuation, is there even if it's there after the fact. I would have preferred more narrative missions to build up Martin Li as a man and not only as a cursed child and then guy who ran FEAST for five minutes at the beginning of the game. More time spent building up Peter and Otto's relationship since the emotion of the end game literally hangs on their thread. More time to really suss out what the **** THE PROBLEM was with MJ and Peter that led to their estrangement. In a game where I effectively complained about having too much (Sable was completely and utterly pointless in this story) I'm somehow left wanting more from the narrative. We find out they WHY for The Sinister Six, but we never learn the why NOW.
Essentially - I wanted more time to tell this story because I feel it could have had a greater impact. Otto's turn feels quick and sudden even compared to Martin Li who is Mr. Quickturn himself. Spending the first act or hell even the first game on unraveling Fisk would have been amazing to me. Use that time to develop an actual relationship between Peter and Otto, show us the stretched relationship of MJ and Peter, and give us actual time with BFF Harry. Build up side missions taking down Rhino, Scorpion, and Vulture. Give Norman the backdrop he deserves as CEO and Mayor and not relegated to the background for much of the game. The narrative has moments of feeling rushed and it feels like they pushed themselves into ticking a box rather than working to these beats organically. The tidbits of narrative delivered during game play have the feel of "oh, here's more information so you know what's going on."
Please do not get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I think it's the one area that clearly elevated from the Arkham series, but I feel like it could have had a much greater impact if they simply gave it more time. The emotional beats they hit were resounding and the game is filled with plenty of cool moments both in gameplay and in the narrative. Still, I feel like some missteps kept me from completely buying into the narrative. For a character who's best moments and stories come when Peter is finding difficulty in balancing his personal and superhero lives I felt very little of that tension here. Even when the story revolved around his mentor becoming a super villain I never felt like it was a battle of Peter's two sides against each other. The internal struggle only came up on the radar once and that was at the end with Aunt May and the anti-serum. It was a missed opportunity to develop a greater impact despite selling it well within the moment. Unfortunately I'm left feeling that way about many of the game's moments. Resounding and highly entertaining in the moment, but the impact lessens as the foundation was barely there.

Regarding the very first thoughts in your spoiler, about the post credit stuff.
Spoiler
I'm like 98% certain that Game 2 will have Harry as Venom. Because again, Earth 1048 is Insomniac's own creation, so that could definitely be a direction they take as another way to absolutely destroy Peter and obliterate the player's emotions.Boston Red Sox

That would make sense especially after they confirmed the suit would not be available in the first game at all.
I'm assuming Green Goblin is eventually coming, too. The helmet you use to locate the secret room in Norman's apartment has to be the early version, right? The green glow on Norman's face from Harry's chamber played that up I thought.
Or perhaps Harry becomes Green Goblin?
One gameplay area I would love to see improvement is the aerial combat. It is fine when the bad guy you're beating up is a typical goon, but when it's the jetpack guys or the villains who are jumping/crawling around through the air then it can become a little nauseating.
Overall this was a great first entry all things considered. A couple stumbles here and there, but nothing that wrecked the narrative or what they wanted to achieve.

Good point. One thing is for sure - it's going to be a long wait until the next game.

I think it will be 2.5-3 years but really not a big deal yeah I would love to play a sequel soon but considering this was the first great spiderman game in like 13 years waiting just a few years is not really that bad.Comment

Re: Spider-Man (PS4 Exclusive)
At 92% over all my first play threw I did zero side missions this is my 2nd play threw this time doing ever thing. I think between the 2 I have played like 55 hours or so. Story its self is like 20 hours and I would say to do ever thing + story is like 35+ hours. I think this game is around my 15th favorite game of all time need to make a list started to the other day.Comment

I would assume the big picture plan for the ps5 is to have Spiderman 2 and horizon coming out within the first year of the ps5. I would guess HZD around launch and Spiderman a little later then that.Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

Re: Spider-Man (PS4 Exclusive)
That is what I am thinking and with Horizon coming out about a year and a half before spiderman did it would make sense that a sequel would be father into development than a spiderman sequel would at this point in time. If that happends to it would be amazing 2 must own games on a system in its first year would be amazing and a heck of a start for ps5. I kind of hope we get another ratchet game before that to because I love ratchet and clank games and I known they have a lot of people on there teams and could maybe have a smaller team work on a new ratchet game while most of the people work on spiderman sequel. I known ratchet and clank ps4 came out early 2016 but yet they where working on spiderman way before that in like late 2014.Comment

Re: Spider-Man (PS4 Exclusive)
About halfway done with this game as I'm forcing myself to finish other games before I start a new one. What a great game! Easily the best Spider-Man game to date (though I disagree with others that say it's the best Super Hero game... Batman game's still hold that mantle for me).
Not sure if this is really a spoiler, but just in case...
SpoilerThink there's a good chance in Spider-man 2 (if they make it), they are going to show either the death of Peter Parker so Miles Morales becomes Spider-man or we'll see quite a few unique Spider-Men (versus simply costumes).Comment

Spider-Man (PS4 Exclusive)
I rate this game an 11/10....just absolutely an incredible video game experience. The city is gorgeous, the web slinging is breathtaking, the combat is intuitive and under control yet beautifully chaotic at the same time, mission variety is top notch and the boss battles, oh my goodness the boss battles are just so tense and so well done. I’m playing on spectacular and in the middle of Act 3 and this game makes you feel that you are the real Spiderman.
I have red dead redemption 2 on pre-order but I have a hard time imagining that game can be better than spiderman on a pure video gameplay experience. RDR2 has the “majestic” angle advantage due to the landscape and historical perpective, but spiderman I can honestly say is not only the best superhero game, but it’s the BEST game I have ever played. So far this is my game of the year....and if RDR2 can top this, then we all should be very happy.
Just an overall amazing experience this spiderman game.
