Elite: Dangerous
I'm surprised there isn't a thread on this game. I recently found it on the Xbox one and have become addicted. It's basically a space exploration flight sim mmo. If you dont mind a steep learning curve, then i highly recommend it.

Re: Elite: Dangerous
I learned about this game through following the NMS development and post-NMS release it is mentioned a lot.
I definitely want to check it out."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Thanks man. I found it. Its on sale for $19. Is it worth it? How much is it like No Man's Sky? I love space and would love to explore the galaxy. Does it capture that feeling of exploration?Comment

Re: Elite: Dangerous
This is another 'space sim' that is divisive like most are. People either love or hate them.
As mentioned, it is more geared to fighting/PVP/trading, you can land on rocky moon like planets in the most recent expansion, but there is no player character to get out of your ship and explore
They do have future plans for planets with exploration elements, with player characters, but no time table as to when it will happen. I am definitely going to give it a go when it hits the PS4 or if I decide to get back into PC gaming again (most recent Star Citizen definitely gave me the craving).Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

The SRV handles differently according to the planet gravity, as do the ships when you go to land on them. You can use the scanner in your buggy to find rare elements/trading items, crashed ships, escape pods, slaver pods and lots of other cool stuff. There's even been some suspected alien life found on planets recently that players have been interacting with.
If you want to see the game in action I'd check out Obsidian Ant's youtube channel. He does weekly "3302" news style reports about the state of the game and the different discoveries, etc.
Here's a video on the "barnacles" which are suspected aliens:

All of this info is from PC version and my over 200 hours played on it since launch. I'm not sure what the Xbox version offers now. As of my last heavy play period they didn't have planetary landings from the Horizon expansion in the Xbox One version yet, but that could have changed.Comment

Re: Elite: Dangerous
Actually there's a "buggy" called an SRV you can undock from your ship and drive around/explore. Also the planets have outposts that you can land at and trade/get missions from.

I want to give this game a run, and was getting most of my info from the Wiki, but have not read on PVP yet. Are you forced PVP? Or can you just have a nice solo experience if you so wish? I assume solo has unchanged states that others can change in 'non solo' per that video?
And the way he narrates is fantastic! I am subscribing.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 08-29-2016, 02:09 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Elite: Dangerous
That is pretty cool, I will most definitely check that out.

1 -Full PVP where you encounter people who may engage you in combat.
2 - Solo were you don't see other users, only PVE.
3 - Private servers where there are other users but so long as you are careful who you accept they either leave you alone or form a wing with you and operate as a group in PVE.≡Comment

Re: Elite: Dangerous
As I understand it there are three options.
1 -Full PVP where you encounter people who may engage you in combat.
2 - Solo were you don't see other users, only PVE.
3 - Private servers where there are other users but so long as you are careful who you accept they either leave you alone or form a wing with you and operate as a group in PVE.
I played a lot in the "Mobius" PVE server which limited my interaction with other commanders to mainly PVE exchanges. There was an incident where someone killed everyone in a griefer type moment but that doesn't happened too much. The community looks out for itself pretty well.Comment

Re: Elite: Dangerous
This is correct. While the Solo mode will let you PVE other CPU Spaceships, whether it's bounty hunting, pirating, or whatever you like, it won't be against other users.
