      Re: Nioh

I just made it to the first boss. I like the level design as far as opening shortcuts. Opening a shortcut gives some sense of progression.

I died twice to the boss and didn't really get his health bar down either time. I have no idea if I can beat this guy on my own. I'll probably watch some YouTube videos first and then end up summoning help eventually.

        Re: Nioh

Its funny because you can fight and fight and fight and die and die and die and then go a different path and realize you didn't even have to kill those two guards or whatever....so while it isn't an open world per se you sort of get that feeling that you have different ways you can go and you question yourself "am I going the right way?"

Man I'm awful at this game but like you guys have said, I'm getting better and I really have to quit tuning out during fights at times, even the old man at the start of the first level has killed me more times than I admit because I think "oh this old man is a waste of my time" LOL!!

I did OK in bloodborne but never finished it or Dark Souls. I haven't gotten very far in Nioh but so far it is more enjoyable to me and when I die I feel it is my fault.

I think that's the key to all these type games and what it took me so long to accomplish after failing with Demon souls and Dark Souls but finally clicked with Bloodborne. When you get to the point where you realize the game isn't necessary beating you as much as you're beating yourself, that's when you can achieve true "Souls Zen" so to speak. It's also when you start to kick some more ***

I had that realization but BB but the grind started to take a toll. I'm definitely not done with it though!

It's different. Nioh's difficulty depends a lot on the gear you have equipped. It rewards loot farming like a Diablo. Having played it now, I understand why people make the comparisons, but it's also very different from Souls games. Make no mistake, you can get shredded just as easily in Nioh if you're not on your toes, but the hurdles can be alleviated by getting better gear.

I'm really digging it. As much as I love the Souls games, I'm finding Nioh more fun to play. I enjoy the much more character action style combat and the game's got mechanics and systems for days. The only things this doesn't come close to touching is the atmosphere and art direction of those games.

                                This!

I don't know if Derrick the Executioner is a 'boss' but i made it to him. Make the pasty guy transform him and got a couple hits in on my first attempt. Gotta finish the job now.

For me, another thing that enhances difficulty is that in groups, guys don't wait for you to kill one before another one attacks. That's why I like this, Bloodborne and Shadow of Mordor so much.
