    Re: Everquest 2

I was in the same boat, Tombsong.

I have 3 Galaxies accounts, but after the Jedi grind I'm ready to do something else. I have one JTL account, and that's fun in short periods.

WoW I'll have 2 accounts to, and I'll keep the one for EQ2. The immersion level in EQ is pretty impressive...and I never did play EQ at all.

I have a character named Leviathan on Crushbone, and Azrael, Leviathan, and Werewolf on Oasis.

Crouch..how does EQ2 and WoW compare to CoH? You drug some of us guys into CoH and that was my first MMORPG and I can't get enough of it. How do they differ? Is fighting the same?

CoH had awesome combat at the start, but the missions never really varied for me. I got bored with it after I got flight and found myself doing the same thing over and over again.

In EQ2, the graphics are mind-blowing. Every NPC speaks to you. Take a quest, talk to a trainer...everything is voiceover. The quests I've gotten so far are the general "collect 6 legbones" up to "Judge the traitors" (where you have to speak to different NPC's and decide for yourself whether to slay them or let them go free...that was a cool one). You get housing and they give you some bits of furniture at the start. You apply for citizenship in the town of your side (good or evil). So far I'm completely immersed, which never happened in MMORPG's...you play them, but I never really got "into" them. I just played them as a game, etc.

World of Warcraft is tough to compare, because it's less MMORPG style and more Diablo style. They did away with downtime...it's all about nonstop action. It's actually probably a bit more FUN than EQ2, but I can already tell EQ2 has a lot of depth to it and a bit more as far as interaction with NPC's and whatnot. I can't tell you how cool it is to fight a mob and have it curse you or mock you as you're fighting it, all voiced-over.

I'd say give it a couple of weeks to see which one is which, but I know I'll have accounts to both WoW and EQ2.

Thanks for the response Crouch. What's the fighting like compared to CoH. Do you select a target and click on different powers that you have or what? That is what I thought CoH did differnently than the other MMORPGs...is that still true? And is EQ2 more soloing rather than teaming? Just curious...I may give EQ a shot on down the road...would have to give up CoH though..wife wouldn't like two monthly payments..hehe. Too many games coming out right now.

well unfortunately for me i downloaded the blizzard client for open beta on WoW (took 27 hours) and have a beta key but blizzard closed the account creation page. I really wnated to try WoW before I made my decision. I pretty much know what I'll get with EQII -its a cross of EQOA and EQPC - which i really enjoyed so I may say screw it and grab EQII tonight and let Blizzard iron out any problems with launch. I can always just start up WoW around xmas.

                                Re: Everquest 2

So far it's a combination of both. It's definitely more friendly to group...example:

Early on you get your special attacks. You hit the "attack" button and it autoattacks like other MMORPG's. You can mix in specials, but you'll keep hitting if you don't do anything, unlike CoH where you had to hit something as simple as brawl. However...and this is the coolest part...they have what's called "Heroic Opportunities" in EQ2. At the start, they're very basic. As you level up, I assume they get more complicated, but they require teamwork sometimes.

                                Here's how they work:

You do something that flags a heroic opportunity..some are skills that start a chain instantly, others are something that anybody has done. The next skill in the chain must be performed at that point. It may be a scout skill, a priest skill, a warrior skill, etc. After that one, then you get the next one in the chain. Basically, it's a group teamwork creation tool. You may need to have 3 different characters, all working together to get off a heroic opportunity in 30 seconds. If you do it, you get XP and all kinds of crazy effects that levels everything around you, but they can be tough to time properly.

You can do some simple, solo heroic opportunities early as well. Those are where the CoH-style combination of button presses comes in. You still have autoattack and specials like other MMORPG's, but you can also implement the Heroic Opportunity "combos" to turn it into something more.

Definitely easier (and more fun) to group though
