I think it would be 2006 or 2007. Basically the start of the X360/PS3 era. A lot of new IPs came out (they make up the biggest franchises today) and there was a lot of innovation going on. Just to name a few:

Mass Effect 1 (2007)
Bioshock 1 (2007)
COD4 (2007)
Halo 3 (2007)
Uncharted 1 (2007)
Civ IV (2007)
Orange Box (2007)
Gears of War (2006)

Except for Uncharted, I had literally no interest in any of those games. LOL.

I think that it is pretty clear that it's been a great Q1. I have no idea whats coming out the next few months though so not sure what to expect.

Arguably the best first quarter of any year. From REVII, Tales of Beseria, Yakuza Zero, Gravity Rush 2, Hitman (disc) in January to Nioh, For Honor, Sniper Elite 4, Horizon Zero Dawn in February to Zelda, Nier Automata, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Mass Effect Andromeda and MLB: The Show 17 in March.

Seriously, it's been insane. In early January, my list was REVII, Hitman, Yakuza Zero, Nioh, For Honor, Sniper Elite 4, Horizon, Zelda, Nier and GRW. That's a whopping ten games that I originally had on my list.

Due to work and in some cases, just lost interest, I narrowed it down to REVII, For Honor, Horizon and GRW. Zelda will be mid-May. Played Hitman, SE 4 and Nier but just wasn't feeling any of them at the point on when I played them. Over the last few years, I been trying to play so many games that I was interested in playing and completely or at the very least, giving a shot but this quarter simply overwhelmed even me to where I had to just stick to my top games that I wanted to play.

And it doesn't even end as in April, I personally have Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 on my list as im hoping that it will be a poor man's Far Cry type game. Was hoping the same a year ago with Homefront The Revolution and well, that didn't work out whatsoever so im hoping SGW3 goes a lot better for me. LOL.

This doesn't even include Persona 5 or Yooka Laylee. Have no interest in Persona 5 but I will be renting YL from GameFly.

With P5 coming out on Tuesday, I almost feel like the case could be made that this is already the best year ever for PS4 specifically.

There are seriously so many good games to play right now, and some that I haven't even touched yet, like Yakuza, that I almost hope there isn't another big release for at least a month so I can catch up.

I need to look at the calendar and see what is coming in April and May

It's been incredible with the number of top titles releasing....Even MLB The Show 17 is one of the finest baseball console games ever!

I've already have May tapped for the VR most anticipated releases (Star Trek & Farpoint)
