Re: Call Of Duty WWII
Didn't know about the film/art exception. I can understand why COD hasn't challenged that rule due to the potential backlash. It's one of those cases where youre damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

Re: Call Of Duty WWII
I always laugh at the, "you can't change history" phrase as if removing a symbol from a video-game is somehow revising history or rewriting anything.
I thought it was clear that the symbol most likely wouldn't be included in multiplayer since multiplayer is a global platform and various censors must be adhered to. It is still in the single player from everything I have read. If you don't like the censorship laws in those countries (Germany being one of them) I understand, but to claim its a slippery slope or revisionist history is hysterical. This censorship has been happening for 25+ years and we are still able to kill Nazis and even Hitler on occasion. I guess somebody forgot to oil up the slope. I mean, what woudl we do if it wasn't for the federal government, (German or US) to tell us what we can and can not look at. Thankfully they are here to save us from offensive imagery.
But yes, the sky is falling. Put on your hard hats.
It's not like I sit here with my tinfoil hat on thinking the world is out to get me and I'm cynical of everything and everyone. But given the way things have been going recently, there is something to be said about the fact history, to whatever extent you want to go, seems to get lost on people cause people are too afraid to offend others, and this is part of that systemic culture.
But hey man, you're cooler than me.Comment

A swastika is a Google search away my man.
This is not about any recent events. It's the same thing that has been happening to games for 25 years and will continue to happen without affecting literally anything.
I'm surprised there aren't Nazi marches surrounding Activision for this considering recent events.

Re: Call Of Duty WWII
game looks awesome!
didn't watch any multiplayer gameplay until today and I'm super impressed. Having been playing cod4 standalone recently on ps4 - this is a major change for the franchise going back to the older feel but with better graphics and sound and simplifying things.
I'm picking it up for sure and may even pre-order to get into the beta which is something I almost never do. Really looking forward to this one.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

It's telling on yourself when you blame something on the "snowflake community" that's the result of a statute that was put in the German Constitution in the late 40's lol.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Call Of Duty WWII
The statute allows for it to be depicted in forms of art which is how movies get away with it. It's just never been pushed with video games, but if it were, it would probably be won as well, but the companies risk the fallout from it as in someway supporting the symbol.

I could go further. About how Call of Duty has never been about historical accuracy or that it's just a mindless game of fiction with frickin zombies in it so this discussion seems even more out of place. But it doesn't seem necessary.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Call Of Duty WWII
Yes so the company is making a decision to avoid backlash at the expense of their customers. This can be explained in any number of ways, but you'd have to try really hard to blame this on "snowflakes" and bring up "safe spaces" like it's relevant here.

Re: Call Of Duty WWII
I'm looking at the tvtropes page for "No swastika" and it's interesting. They mention a few movies and TV shows that censored themselves anyway. I wonder if they actually did try to get through it would they get stopped for being too cartoonish anyway. How is the "are video games art" conversation going in Germany? Apparently their ratings board holds the power and refuses to rate anything that is not "an explicit reference". I see why they just opt to scrap stuff altogether.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
