      Re: Starfield

I played about 5 hours last night and stayed up to 2am. I'm not a fan of a silent protagonist or character creation but I put Peter for my name and Vlasco actually says the name which I wasn’t expecting so that’s pretty cool.

I am someone who likes collecting resources, loot, etc. and I must admit that I spent more time picking up all the items and im 200 pounds over my weight limit. lol. But I figured that I can sell it all off for credits so I’ll take the stamina hit in exchange.

Game looks great overall. Facial animations are good and animations are good as well. Overall, easily Bethesda Game Studios best looking game. Audio is great. Voice acting is really good, sound effects is solid and music is damn good!! Combat and gameplay wise, im playing more in first person because it feels better shooting than in third person which is bad for me because im better in third person than I am in first person. Not the best but it’s good and enjoyable. You can loot dead bodies.

Story and characters thus far are really good. It’s definitely got me interested to see how it all plays out. The opening few hours of the game is slow paced and basically a tutorial but I actually liked it. Ship combat is good but I was pissed off at first because the enemy ships were off-screen and I was like, how the hell do I get to them and then checked the controller configuration and had to press RB to actually ascend and get to the enemy ships. I do wish that you could automatically get the loot after destroying the ships instead of having to go near the cargo and loot them.
I’m playing on hard difficulty and died once with ship combat during the tutorial. I’m on my way going to New Atlantis which is where I saved the game and went to sleep. lol

Technically speaking, I think the game plays really good despite being 30FPS on Xbox Series X even though I wish there was a 60FPS option but it does play good especially in first person where in third person, I think it’s more clunky. Other than that, no bugs or glitches whatsoever thus far.

I do wish I could turn off the background for subtitles and that just annoys me to no end. But overall, great game and im enjoying it.

Thanks! I’ve been picking anything and everything up anyway lol. I’m an explorer in games, I interact with everything possible and search every area of a section. If it takes average gamer in a game to beat it in 10 hours, it’s going to take me 20 hours lol.

I'm going to wait to voice my opinions and review until sometime next week. Probably Friday.

So far, I'm just amazed. New Atlantis is just breathtaking to take in, I'm just enjoying myself, lol.

If you can see your ship’s cursor and set on a target it can tell you how far you are away from it. This is what you lock on to a ship and once you lock you get to certain distance it will prompt you asking if you to dock on it.

Most the main story takes about 40 hours, but most people end taking well over 150 hours because of all the other to see and do. Me I have done some of the main story just so I can get my crew and some credits. But I want to get to buying guns, harvesting minerals and building outposts. I love that aspect of the game.

                      Re: Starfield

My very early impression is that it is Skyrim/Fallout with better (much better) combat. But also more limiting both in perception and reality.

The fact that it carries many elements of a BGS game is great. I love Elder Scrolls, and in many ways this feels like Elder Scrolls with a true FPS combat system on top (or fallout without the VAT). That is both a blessing and a curse. The main BGS formula is present, so fans of BGS games should feel right at home (I'm one of them). However, there are also some limiting factors which are not present in other BGS games which results in less "openness" to the gameplay (not just referring to the tiles problem. Things like restrictions on how you can interact with certain named NPCs vs. Skyrim/Fallout/Outworlds and most games in this genre). Also, because this game is set in space (at least partially) while having certain exploration limits (tiles, space "exploration", loading screens for many points of interest) it enhances that feeling of restriction. The exact same core mechanics being reskinned in an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game would probably feel less restrictive since you would not be teased with this whole galaxy around you at all times, with your very own spaceship to boot.

Definitely need to go into this without paying attention to the hype or even Bethesda's own marketing. Much of the buildup and even the Starfield Direct left me thinking that while this would not be an all out space sim, it would maybe have some kind of hybrid Elite Dangerous/Skyrim feel. A true Space RPG, which is what I would love. Instead, it's another standard Bethesda game, but with arguably a bit less of the immersion that makes me truly love Bethesda games.

                      Other initial thoughts:

I think a couple of design decisions were really odd, especially around inventory management. You really can't carry much on your person compared to other BGS games, which I actually don't mind that much. It adds a touch of realism and discourages hoarding everything you see (even if it is still far more than physically possible). The fact that your starter ship's cargo hold can only hold 3x as much as your human character is a problem though. Especially when you can just throw stuff on the ground and not have it count against your weight limit. Similarly, your starting robot companion can only hold as much as you, which is odd that this beefy robot has the same carrying capacity as a human. Just basic looting corpses and gathering resources while you walk around will quickly fill up you, your robot, and your ship.

Character creation is fantastic by Bethesda standards, but kind of mediocre by many modern game standards. Overall it's fine though.

Land combat is great. My favorite combat of any BGS game to date. It feels like a pretty solid FPS.

Space combat is...it exists. Not a fan of it, or really anything to do with space flying at this point. It almost feels like it would be the same game if you never took your ship to space. So far, I don't think that it has added to the experience at all.

Lockpicking was very poorly explained. Once you learn it, it's not overly hard though.

Oblivion style dialog is a plus.

I like it, it's fun. It's an action RPG with solid combat, fun dialog choices, and some nice customization options (a standard Bethesda game). It's not the game that I thought and hoped that I was getting though, and to be honest I would probably rather have rather had Elder Scrolls 6 with better immersion.

I died last night for the 1st time. I was on a planet and some little tiny creature tore my butt up. Sad thing was I ran out of health packs. So I had to finish the mission with 3% health because when you die, you just come back to life with very little health. Thank goodness the cover system is pretty good for the most part. I built an outpost, but couldn't really do anything with it because I didn't have enough resources to fully build it out.

Hit a few bars last night looking for recruits. Good lord these recruits at bars cost a lot of money, I couldn't afford any of them. The higher their skill set, the more they cost, but even the low level ones cost a lot. So instead I went to a store and stocked up on med packs and the like, especially ammo. Now I have gotten into the habit of every where I walk on a planet outside of a city, I mine everything I come across LOL. Fast travel back to your ship is awesome. At times I get lost trying to walk back to my ship or it will be a situation where I know it is a lot of wild life in between and I don't feel like trying to sneak pass them again.

Small thing I found out yesterday which is pretty cool, if you hold down the space bar you change to thrusters only, but the ship carries on in the direction it was going. Useful in battle if you need to face the opponent, or if you are struggling to view an object properly.

I need to find a good way to make money might have to become one an arms dealer. Get weapons off pirates I kill then mod them for quick sell profit. LOL. So many things to do in this game LOL

Right now I’m afraid to play on new pc I just built. I got 5800x processor and temps are fine idling but once I go play a game it’s hitting 90 degrees Celsius. I have a better cooler coming tomorrow. On 4k and high I’m getting about 50 fps I think.

In the meantime I hooked up my old pc. It has a 3060 gpu and on medium 4k I’m getting about 45 fps.

I seriously want to shoot that robot lol… keeps getting in my way.
