    Game Studio Preference...

So since I'm new to all of this I'm having to learn some things like there's a difference between a developer/studio and a publisher. I now understand that all of those "Bethesda" games I bought aren't Bethesda developed and that only Skyrim and Fallout are. But, that makes me even more sure that I'm a fan because those are the 2 that get the majority of my gaming time.

I'll start looking into some of the other studios that you guys have mentioned now.

Bethesda is the publisher but is owned by ZeniMax. Bethesda Game Studios is the developer responsible for the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls franchises.

Other developers are owned by ZeniMax and under Bethesda are Arkane Studios, Tango Gameworks, Machine Games and ID Software. Might be missing one or two.

After about 5 hours of AC: Origins I’m digging Ubisoft more. They make some good games though I wasn’t all in on Far Cry 5.

Unless im off on something, Myst isn't Ubisoft. It was published by Broderbund and developed by Cyan Worlds. Remember playing this game on 3DO and absolutely hating it. Definitely NOT for me. LOL.

EDIT: I guess Ubisoft owns the IP since Myst 3 and 4 were from Ubisoft. Didn't even know there was more than one Myst game. See, you do learn something new everyday. LOL.

Ubisoft and Sony are my top 2. Based on games completed, WB Games is 3rd with 8 games completed, Bethesda is 4th with 6 games completed and then Electronic Arts/Microsoft/Square Enix are tied for 5th with 5 games completed.

Hahaha. 71 for this gen through 2018. Have a few missions left in Detroit Become Human which would make it 72. RDR 2 which is my summer game will be 73. For 2019, I beat NSMBUD for Switch in a day and beat the campaigns in REmake2 already. Now, im finishing up Detroit while waiting for Far Cry New Dawn and Metro Exodus.

Small chance at me hitting the 100 game mark this year but that's only if the majority of future games that are on my list get released this year which probably won't happen.

From what little I have played so far outside of EA's football games, my top 3 (in no particular order) are:

                          Square Enix

I am liking this studio more and more. There are a lot of their games I will never play, but the ones I set my sights on all look fantastic: Nier Automata is an absolute gem (my #3 so far and closing in on #2 real fast), Tomb Raider (currently playing the first installement) is looking great as well, have Life is Strange in the backlog, and couple of days ago I stumbled upon a small title called The Quiet Man which had an absolutely stunning trailer and I immediately downloaded it from PS Store (for 5€, a no-brainer).

                          Naughty Dog

The Last of Us is... well, a legend (my #1 ever), TLoU 2 is a top priority for this spring / summer, and Uncharted series (played 1 and 2, with 3, 4 and LL waiting in the wings) are obviously top echelon games as well.

                          Guerilla Games

They absolutely killed it with Horizon Zero Dawn (my #2 so far) and will probably bring the boom again with Forbidden West, but for about a month or two (or three) I mulled over another one of their games, Killzone Shadow Fall, and today I finally caved in and went digital for 10€. The game seems to look awesome graphically and from what I learned from reviews / YT videos should be at least worth the investment, if not an absolute blast. We'll see.

I have a few. A few are repeats from others but with some explaining. I also left sports devs off of here since we are in the other games forum.

                              Square Enix:

I really mean Squaresoft here. I am an old school jrpg fan and they made the best. The newer final fantasy games are alright but not like the originals I grew up playing. I really enjoy the remasters of 7 and 9 as those are two of my favorite games all time. The last final fantasy I really truly liked was 10. After that, they have went down hill. I am a few hours into the FF7 remake and it's not bad but not great so far either.

                              Rockstar:
For Red Dead 2 alone here and a few of the GTA games are good.

                              Paradox:
They make solid games but require multiple expansions to be bought to feel complete. Best when expansions are bought in bulk for cheap or a select one or two to really improve the game, aka Hearts of Iron 4 which really was best without any expansions.

                              Firaxis:
Well now owned by 2k but I don't mean 2k. On here because Civilization 2 Test of Time and Civilization 5 are two of my all time favorite games and the two best Civilization games.

                              Obsidian:
They have some really solid games, especially the Pillars of Eternity games.

                              Indie Devs:
There are a few really good solo developers or small indie companies out there. Coredumping that makes Software Inc is awesome as well as Eric Barone who made Stardew Valley. These kinds of devs care more about their games and fans than a lot of the big devs do and are honestly better developers than a lot of AAA titles are.

I don't have one because over time they all change and there is no consistency for me at least. I absolutely loved Oblivion, Fallout and Skyrim - but Skyrim literally came out 10 years ago. Fallout 4 which was good but not amazing came out 6 years ago. So Bethesda would have been it, but not anymore - fallout 76 meh, Elder scrolls online - meh ... 2k I like a lot of stuff from, but now 2k21 next gen is irritating the hell out of me.

All I can go on is what I'm playing now and that's 80% dreams, 10% PUBG, Enlisted and reluctantly 2k21 with Cyberpunk on ice for now.

looking ahead there's nothing I'm super pumped about - To me every major developer is going through a 'flat' period. There needs to be a major reboot of new IP's and new ways of doing things.

                                Just my opinion
