I didn’t really enjoy the franchise until the third entry ...

Eh, I know I’m on a bit of an island with this, but I don’t trust anyone who didn’t like FC2. I’m gonna have to see some more reviews.

Probably because it’s ultimately an entirely different genre than 3 & 4. 3 & 4 are in this “wild and wacky open world fun” category ala Just Cause, GTA, or to a lesser extent, Saint’s Row. FC2 was soaked in grit and realism in a crushingly oppressive world, closer to Demon’s Souls than Just Cause.

Honestly I’ve already defended the game to death (it’s been ten years after all), but here’s a quality vid on the subject:

I liked the realism aspect of FC2. I also enjoyed the gunfight and action very much and kept coming back for more. The open world wasn't that interesting to me and the story (was there a story?) didn't really interest me, but the action was great.

FC2 is almost like a game from a different franchise. To me it's one of those awesome action games where you keep playing on and on...

The enemies constant respawning completely ruined it for me. You'd drive 100m and back and all those dead guys are shooting at you again - absolutely hated that and it drove me nuts and it's the reason I stopped playing the game.

If they made a game that could combine the realism of 2, storytelling of 3, and general environmental quality of 4, that would be the perfect Far Cry game in my opinion.

If you go to https://live.playstation.com/ and watch a 30 second far cry video you can get a code for 20% off playstation store. There are a few more quests to get avatars as well

Go to the top right that has your PSN name, scroll down a bit and off to the right you'll see a "rewards" tab. Click on it and you'll find the code again.

The overwhelming majority of the sites are giving the game really high marks. It's okay, not every site has to give a game that they think has a poor story a high grade. As a story first person, I'm glad that some of the reviewers are looking out me and people of my ilk.
