Might be lacking for a while, like Destiny was. Then a year or 2 later Destiny was popping after they added a dozen content updates and patches. Anthem apparently is going to follow the same path as Destiny. I expect Bioware to keep adding content to Anthem on up until to the next Dragon Age comes out, which will be Bioware's next game they release.

As it stands right now, nobody can compete with Fornite and Apex. So Anthem really going to need some major epic story related content to keep people interested. Just adding world events and new forts to raid not going to cut it. Not in today's climate anyway. They also need to add more life and variety to the city fort you are in. Currently everybody constantly doing the same thing every time you are there. Makes it feel dead and dull.

I guess I expect Fort Tarsis to be like The Citadel. Popping with life and variety. Instead it is cramped, dull and boring prior to you beating the game. After you beat the game, gets a little bit better but far from lively and exciting. Game will sell well though simply off Bioware's name alone. There are tons of Bioware stans out there.

I know this game is basically in an unfinished state (before the day 1 patch anyway) but I have loved what I have played so far. I am about 6 hours in and the story is just now starting to matter. The gameplay, to me, is spot on. I think it may become repetitious in time and I am hoping BioWare has a lot of things planned to keep it fresh. I have my preorder ready to go and am excited to dive back in.

I am playing on Xbox One X and have only had a few issues. My buddy has the same and his experience has been much worse, including insane load times, freezes and the complete wiping of his game save. He is obviously really disappointed and cancelled his preorder. I have seen the same thing when going to the Xbox gamefaqs board: huge inconsistencies across One Xs. Strange and I hope the patch fixes this.

I would take early reviews with a grain of salt; all are before the big patch coming and the knives have been out for this game and EA/BioWare for months. This is another game as service deal and I really think there will be massive improvements coming in the months ahead.

To me, I have seen enough to warrant a purchase, but with all the bugs and issues I can see why others do not.

That’s a shame about your buddy but totally understandable. I would have waited for the day one patch before playing if a few issues were going to totally ruin it for me.

I’ll definitely be buying this for OneX after exhausting my 10 hours. I wish there was cross save/play because I’d probably buy it on pc as well after a couple hours of play there. I heard they are working on it for after launch but I’m not sure how that will work if I already have characters going on both platforms before they enable it.

I don’t think games like this need to plan on competing with Battle Royale games at all. They just need to keep pushing out content and fans of these games will play them. People that no life Fortnite and apex were not going to give this game any time regardless.

Everybody is competing with Battle Royale style games, which is why so many games recently have added a battle royale mode. Video game business is a competitive business. You competing with everybody. You are trying to pull people to your product. Apex and Fornite is what is popular right now.

Sure you want to appeal to your core fans of said genre, but you also want to try to create NEW fans that aren't your core audience.

Well of course you are competing with every other game in the grand scheme of things. I just don’t think Battle Royale games are dominating the minds of devs that make these types of games. Im thankful for that too because like you said that would probably mean they would just toss in a BR mode. Completely different player bases. Obviously some overlap though.


I mean the same company published this game and apex legends. Released them both around the same time. Kind of shows what I’m saying here.

Fornite and Apex are not only battle royale games which is what Anthem isn't but both of those games are free to play. Everything is great when it's free. Also, Anthem is NOT PvP whatsoever. It's a team based PvE loot shooter.

I lost interest in Anthem as it's simply not meant for a solo gamer such as myself but make no mistake, I do believe the game will easily hit EA's 6M sales forecast by March 31st. The gameplay and flying around which is said to be as good as the swinging and parkour in Spider Man as well as the visuals and the BioWare name will be more than enough to carry it while they add content post launch.

Yeah, just finished Skill Up's 45 minute review and holy hell, what a disaster. And it was ONLY part one of his review. I knew the game had issues and problems but I take back that EA will hit their 6M target. Of course, now that im taking it back, they probably will. LMAO.

After watching that review I definitely won't buy now or ever. Even when I played the beta, it was never fun.

So I put some hours into the game after the Day 1 patch today. Some impressions:

1. The load times are much improved.

2. They changed the interface of a couple of things, for the better.

3. In Free Roam there are a TON of enemies now. Before at times you had to search far and wide to find something to kill. Not anymore, the map is more populated with enemies and wild life.

4. The loot has increased, which is a good thing. Still a grind, but now I will say the appropriate amount of loot drops after a 20 minute battle.

5. The world loads perfectly now. Before you get back to Fort Tarsis and the world was 1/4 way loaded and you would see no walls, no ground, floating people.

6. The pay out for contracts and missions appear to be better too.

Now what does Anthem got going for it ?

1. Graphics are insane.

2. The sound effects are insanely good. Like they really nailed the sound of guns, rocket launchers, explosions. The sound effects was the first thing I noticed. I have this epic level gun now that sound so good when I fire it that I just want to keep firing it. It have that nice deep sound that remind me of a .50 cal. It is just AWESOME.

3. After you beat the game, the missions and contracts are very good. IMO it should have been available prior to you beating the game.

What is wrong with the game ?

1. The story line before you beat the game is lacking. Feels rushed and feels like they left a lot of stuff out.

2. Don't take long to beat the game. However Bioware stated this is ever evolving game with new content to be released on a regular basis. Some people like this style, some don't. I can easily see people saying they will wait until the end of the year or next year to buy Anthem once EVERYTHING is released. Kind of like how people did with Destiny.

3. You not beating this game solo. You can solo up to like the 4th mission. But after that, the sheer number of enemy is just too much for 1 player.

Will they reach their sales goal ?

Most likely. There are a ton of Bioware stans out there in the world who love Bioware to death and been waiting on a new Bioware game since Andromeda. Can they sustain an audience is the big question though. Me personally I will continue to play it until MLB The Show comes out. I got the game via EA Premiere, so it was nothing to lose.

Post patch, I give this game a 8.5 out of 10. Currently this the best looking game out there right now. Hell it is the best sounding game too when it comes to sound effects. I mean who would have thought Anthem would have better sounding guns and explosions then COD & Battlefield.

My performance on pc dipped a little after the day one patch. I was able to play on high and maintain above 30fps. I’m going into the 20s now. Not a huge deal I know this game is pushing my laptops limits. Just not sure I’ll purchase it twice if I have to play on medium to maintain decent frames. Running 1050 with 16 gb memory.
