Re: Vampyr
One of the stranger mechanics is how they implemented some of the powers. For those who don't know you have a blood meter which is essentally a power meter to use offensive, defensive and healing powers. You boost this meter by stunning enemies ( a few hits with a particular type of weapon). That's all good.
At the base levels of some powers, they cost no blood, and instead rely on a timer. But as you get better versions of the power, they cost large amounts of blood. As a result, I found I was going large parts of some tough boss fights without access to these powers as I had to us emy blood meter to constantly heal. That feeling of progression wasn't really there.
Another thing. Boss battles. If they kill you, you respawn and they are fully healed. Fine. But you lose any bullets and blood you used. That's annoying.
These things combined with the bemusing difficulty in simply getting around and to objectives made it I couldnt get through the game.
It's a shame because these types of games needs to be supported.Comment

Vampyr
I’m kind of feeling like Dirk as well.
I’m really enjoying the story but after a mission I tried to go back to the hospital to do some things and I felt every path was blocked and the game forced me to continue the main quest.
Anyway, I kept losing to a boss and I am now stuck in this maze and the map is useless.
Why the F can’t we fast travel between hideouts? This game is very frustrating at times.
Also the boss is 10 levels higher than me but I feel forced by the game to take this path.

Basing that on comments I've heard from the devs.

Re: Vampyr
Knew about Vampyr for the last two years or so since it was officially announced but passed on the game until this past Friday. Watched 15 minutes or so of a no commentary gameplay walkthrough on YouTube a few weeks ago and rented it from GameFly.
I started playing this past Friday and thus far, im on Chapter 5, level 37, approximately 35 hours into the game. This game is freaking great. As of now, it's an easy 8.0/10 and barring some kind of cluster****, will hit my 8.5/10 rating and become my 5th best game of 2018.
Vampyr is a hidden gem. Combat is great. It's souls like but better in my opinion. You have your health, your stamina and your blood gauges but there's a lot of depth in the combat system. You can use a one handed weapon like a machete and have the stake in your other hand that's used to stun enemies.
If you use a two handed weapon and time your block on an attack, it acts as a stun. Stunning enemies is important because it allows you to then bite them after you stun them enough times to deplete their stamina and they kneel down which allows you to bite them.
Once you bit them though, their stamina gauge increases which means that it will take more successful stun attacks/blocks to repeat that process.
There's a few minor puzzles. Nothing major and was mostly underground but breaks up the flow a little bit which was fine by me. Boss fights have been great thus far.
Really enjoying the story and characters. And I haven't even mentioned the upgrading system, how it works and the consequences of killing the citizens. Plus, there's dialogue choices and hints that unlock other dialogue choices in the dialogue wheel. If you get a hint correct, that citizen will have more XP attached to him/her. If you don't, that citizen won't get that XP boost. There's also a health system in the game for the Citizens ranging from a cold to bronchitis and more. There's also recycling (dismantling items) that's used to gather resources that are needed and upgrading of your weapons.
Seriously, Vampyr is one hell of a great game. Focus Home Interactive is becoming one hell of a great AA publisher and while I didn't like Remember Me and have zero interest in Life is Strange, Dontnod hit a home run with Vampyr in my opinion.
Will post again once I complete the game.Comment

Re: Vampyr
Vampyr is in the Vault now. I always wanted to play the game, but heard so many conflicting reports on it that I never wanted to put my own money towards something so unknown. Glad to be able to give it a try soon.
Edit: maybe not? I looked it up and it isn't there. I definitely got a notification about it, though?Last edited by canes21; 08-08-2019, 04:39 PM.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Vampyr
Personally, im 35+ hours in and the gameplay/melee combat isn't cumbersome at all. I'm loving the combat. There's strategy to it all and it's fun. I liked what I saw in the gameplay walkthrough I watched and if anything, playing it is even better than I thought it was going to be. Now, maybe it was more clunky at launch. I can't say as im playing it now for the first time and im not having any issues with the gameplay/melee combat. For me, the gameplay/combat category itself is at least an 8/10 with me leaning towards a 9/10.
Just checked, Vampyr is on Game Pass for Xbox One and PC.Comment

It is on Game Pass for XBOX and PC. Re: Vampyr
Finished Vampyr in approximately 40 hours. Finished at level 41. Got the worst ending in the game but im not surprised considering the choices I made in the game.
Great 8.5/10 game for me. Visuals would be an 8/10 as would be the audio with gameplay and the story categories being a 9/10 so overall, an 8.5/10.
Highly recommended and one of the two game this gen (the other being Yakuza Zero) that I regret not buying and playing day one. The gameplay elements and story is great and has a good amount of depth to it. Was expecting a mid-70's game for me but exceeded and surpassed my expectations. If there ends up being a sequel which im hoping there will be, it will be a day one purchase for me.Comment
