This is bad news for the industry. It's hilarious to see people who defend this move. EA is going to cause gaming to fall flat on it's face.

It's only 20% now, but I will bet my house that EA will buy Ubi Soft within the next 2-3 years, as well as others. This was just a first step for EA, in a takeover move against Ubi Soft. They just made a new offer to Dice, and you can expect them to be bought within the next month. Say goodbye to the Rallisport Challenge series Xbox owners.

If this continues gamers can expect the following:

Ubisoft Entertainment announced today it would consider Electronic Arts' stake building as "hostile", until it received further details from the company.

"Pending further information, we consider this operation as hostile," an Ubisoft spokesman told Reuters. "We think this operation is aimed at securing the studios of Ubisoft that are ready to face the next generation of gaming consoles," he added.

It allows EA to profit from a competitors sucess. It would be like Coke buying a stake in Pepsi.

EA actually tried to buy UBIsoft a couple years ago and the shareholders blocked it. As long as Ubi managment holds 51% of the shares EA is SOL and Ubi management is firmly against a EA takeover.

With the money EA spend buying up Ubi shares, why not reallocate it toward R&D to make their games better. Cough NBA Live 07 cough.

I hope Ubi keeps doing well and keeps its stock price up, making it more expensive for EA to buy additional block of shares.

ea needs to stop worrying about buying into stock.. and tryna make things exclusive [*cough* madden] and invest in some better programmers/developers.. hell a new staff from a fine college institute..

..now they're about to ruin ubisoft and instead of rainbow six we'll all be playin call of duty as our multiplayer outlet...

now let's not start making things skewed. Ubisoft has their fair share of EA-itis. They've made way too many sequels just like EA does. Ubisoft does make great Tom Clancy games though.
