I think Respawn's marketing strategy was incredibly risky and odd, but in the end ingenious. They did no marketing for the game such as ads, trailers etc...invited a few streamers out to an event a week before it launched, then simply released the game without warning (essentially keeping it a secret). I hear that they chose to go that route because they felt gamers would think "Oh, ANOTHER battle royale game..." or criticize this is an EA game and there are loot boxes (i.e. EA Battlefront) so nobody would give the game a chance.

I tell you...this dev team has some smart dudes as they seem to have thought of EVERY thing. The gameplay is well thought out, the heros and mechanics are fairly well balanced - it's so polished and just incredibly impressive for zero fan-fare leading up to release.

The ping is so good, might be one of the bigger innovations in gaming since achievements.

Is the directional sound anything like PUBG? With PUBG you almost had to wear headphones to hear all the sound details and to know what direction someone was coming from.

Should I break out my headphones for Apex?

The better question is why you WOULDN'T play battle royale games with headphones if you have them? The audio directional cues are very helpful in any shooter.

I'm not surprised they've thought of eveything, Respawn Entertainment is the original Infinity Ward developers who made Call of Duty 4 all those years ago. We all know how innovative that game was back in 2007.

They also thought they would get instant backlash because it wasn’t titanfall 3 that they were working on. They were probably dead on too. Look what happen with fallout 76. Game was doomed before it was even released.

Finally won one! It’s a good game, with the potential for some legs if they keep a steady flow of hero’s coming.

There's more people watching one person play (shroud, 207k) than the total number of people playing League of Legends (143k) or Fortnite (92k).

I personally couldn’t get into this but I think I just got burnt out in Battle Royale with Fortnite. I may go back to it. Just didn’t want to put in the hours to learn all the heros with anthem and division 2 coming. I know once they drop they will dominate my gaming hours.

I really don't want to talk to randos on a squad. I've read the pinging system is really good. Is it worth trying to play or should I just wait until solo is available?

Ping isn't enough if you want to win. There's a lot of really good players out there that can easily kill a squad by themself without the squad having verbal communication.

Speaking of the tournament. The team with Ninja, , King Richard and Dizzy (who I had not heard of) had like 390 kills and Dizzy had like 210 lol crazy.

Also he was the first to 100 rank and just had a game where he killed 33

Can't agree. My 10 wins none of us had mics. People with mics are generally douche bags from my experience.

I have my mic out but choose not to use it.
