Re: Any Microsoft Flight Simulator Fans Here?

I’m enjoying the sim overall but a few things seem a little busted so I’m hoping there are fixes in place.

First and foremost is that ATCs don’t announce altimeter during handoff so a lot of the time I’m just guessing and having to rely on other events happening (such as ATC telling AI traffic that I was crossing their path and finding out my true flight level from that).

Another is ATC related, and I know it’s been in flight sim for literally decades and its the complete non-recognition of the actual flight plan and telling me to expedite climb and descent. My waypoints are clear and I stick to them but the expedite calls are relentless. I did a short haul from London Gatwick to Barcelona and I was descending through 11000 and ACT is still telling me to expedite my climb to FL320 lol. Then finally as I contact tower finally I get correct approach altitudes but because I was flying through a storm at night I was relying on ATC and instruments and as a result missed my turn to my correct approach path and ended up botching it big time. No idea if this is just an Xbox version issue or an overall sim issue.

As I say though overall it’s great. So impressed they have this working on a console. I don’t have the space for a full sim rig so being able to just boot up the console for a couple hours for a quick flight is so convenient.

ATC in the sim has been wonky since it launched on the PC. Was hoping they would have fixed it a bit by now but it still tells you to do some wacky stuff. I normally just ignore the ATC and just rely on charts and my instrument when flying.

Nah I’m just on the controller. The TV is hitched up on the wall and we don’t have a desk or table in the room to be able to use a yoke, really. I don’t find controller input to be too bad, just a little awkward with commands at times where a keyboard would be better.

So does this game have any sort of "career" mode or is it just flying?

I remember thinking there was no way I would enjoy Euro Truck Simulator and it turned out to be so much fun that I bought American Truck Simulator.

Just curious if it has any sort of career options like those games do.

Unfortunately no. That's one thing I do like better about ETS/ATS. However the PC version does have Virtual Airlines that kinda give you a flight schedule, so that you aren't just randomly picking airports. But so far I don't know of any that work with the Xbox version.

Yup. If you have this on the PC there are plenty of Virtual airlines you can fly. Also, with add ons like NeoFly and Skypark you can fly missions. I enjoy Skypark from Orbx. You can fly all sorts of missions..good and bad and get karma depending on what types of missions you fly.

Here is a screenshot of one of my missions i flew with Skypark. Gives your flights some purpose. One of the advantages of gaming on the PC are the boatloads of mods for games. I also love ATS/ETS. The modding community is great on PC

Thanks for the information. I don't have an xbox but I may subscribe to gamepass just to try it out on PC. I messed up and started watching YouTube videos and now I need to play it for sure.

This person flying over where I used to live in Japan did it for me.. the level of detail all the way down to which ships are parked where is so accurate.. it's a little out of date but that's okay. LHD-6 was still in Japan when this was documented but it's since been replaced and isn't even a ship anymore after it burned.

that looks WAY better than on my series x. I feel like I'm not getting textures loading in or that outside of major cities there is a drastic dip in fidelity? I flew over my house yesterday and it looked like google maps whereas where I start in toronto looks much better like your video but still not as detailed. Maybe it's a load-in thing, to me because of the tech it seems like it's info streaming (and I have a 1gig dl speed) and not the power of the cpu/gpu? idk, but that video is way better than what I experience

I think he may have some sort of filter going on or something because even some of the RTX 3090 videos I've seen on Ultra don't have lighting that dark.

I'm not sure I'll be able to run it very smoothly with my setup but I'm going to try anyways.

Some more screenshots I took while flying last night. One of my favorite planes to fly is the Grand Caravan.

One negative I don't like about the recent update is the way the clouds look. To me they looked a lot better before the update.

the training is kind of broken imo. You're supposed to do what the game wants to trigger the next event/obstacle, but it doesn't point out exactly where those triggers are.

The take off and landing and taxi portions for example don't tell you where to go (on xbox after the updates).

The game is cool and a huge time-sink, but there's def some little glitchy things about it that take away from the experience.

Love the way the A320 sounds when it is spooling up. Doing a cold start at Denver International Airport.

I have to say that I am impressed with the T. Flight Hotas One.

I use the Thrustmaster T 16000M on PC, unfortunately it's not compatible with the Xbox. It's definitely better than the Hotas One, but like I said, the Hotas One is pretty darn good on Xbox.

I'm really excited for the Turtle Beach yoke and throttle setup. I just want to be able to use a yoke in planes with them. So much more realistic. And I like it better than a stick anyway. It just feels right.

As far as the world map, make sure to download all the world updates. And yeah, a lot of places will be much less detailed. What you are seeing is literally what you see in Bing maps, or Google maps. I live in a semi-small town in Northeast Ohio right on Lake Erie. And my house is kinda flat and hardly any detail. It would just be way too much for the system to handle anything more than that amount of detail.
