Vice City for me, how can you beat Ray Liotta ??? don't know if many tried it but as a comparable I actraully really like the driver series and in Driver 3 you could run around like GTA and make your own film edits. I really liked the way the cars handled even if they were a bit on the slower side - I just sunk a lot of hours in to that one for some reason.

Re: Your favorite Grand Theft Auto?
Probably a pipe dream, but if the Switch could get the PS2/Xbox collection that would be amazing.
Gameplay wise they haven't aged well, but I feel like the story/characters/et al in Vice City would not play well in today's climate. The other two games are dated, but nothing too outrageous.
Rockstar could probably make $500 or more off of me alone just releasing the remake of VC or SA on a console and then the PC at a later date. I'd honestly even buy a new console solely for the remake. GTA V is fun, but it does not match VC or SA. No game outside of Red Dead Redemption has come close to matching the level of enjoyment I got out of VC and then SA when they came out. Relative to their periods, I've played no game outside of RDR that has come close to being as good.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Your favorite Grand Theft Auto?
I feel the same as no GTA matching those, but I can't describe why. I wouldn't call IV or V bad games, but they never kept my attention the way those PS2 versions did.

Re: Your favorite Grand Theft Auto?
Still, even as Vice City and San Andreas expanded the scope of the game itself (SA has a ton of optional RPG elements that I completely forgot about) and the characters and narrative there was still enough dissonance from "serious" gaming that you could expel countless hours doing outlandish, cartoonish, and frankly over-the-top violence and gore without much of a thought. Heck, I fired up Vice City and the first thing I did was walk into a Rampage mission a block into the game.
I noticed it felt different for me in GTA IV as well. I'm not sure what is was. Maybe the step-up in graphics. The increased polygon count and a map that was a lot more dense and realistic than the previous 3 games weren't able to even imagine. They must have sensed a changed too or else why give us a character that is clearly meant for rampaging and mayhem with Trevor in GTA V (which looking back now really feels like some kind of socio-political statement)? By then it just didn't feel like a universe where picking up a flame-throwing or chainsaw and chopping hookers or old people in half on the sidewalk was much fun or meant to be fun.
Personally, the best GTA game is Saints Row 2. Kidding-Not-Kidding.

Re: Your favorite Grand Theft Auto?
Hands down, San Andreas is my favorite out of the series so far. What really caught my attention was the fact that they decided to make a black character their focal point, which is something you don't really see in video games. I remember being mind blown after seeing early footage of how I could take this black street gang member & change up his look from clothes, hairstyles & physique while also being able to have my own crew of Grove Street members follow me at all times. When I look at the game, the only sour taste I have is the random missions that took away from the gang aspect.
Since it's release, I've bought that game at least 6 times. (twice on ps2, once on ps3, once on my Iphone, once on the PC & once on the Xbox One.)
Also have to recognize the fact that SA-MP introduced me to the world of roleplay when it comes to online gaming. I loved my time on LS-RP & Hot Blooded Gaming RP.

I absolutely love the setting and soundtrack though. I can totally understand why a decent number of people want to return to the Vice City era for the next GTA game.NFL: Bills

Re: Your favorite Grand Theft Auto?
I would consider they lucked out on GTA going for a more realistic gameplay approach compared to their previous 3 games. I don't think SR2 fares as well if GTA IV is more aligned with 3, VC, or SA.

No love the stories games? Liberty City stories and Vice City stories are underappreciated games. You may hate me but I enjoyed Vice City stories more than I did Vice City.
For me though my favorite is GTA IV.

Co-sign. To me, San Andreas is the 'zenith' of the GTA series....Rockstar's 'Purple Rain', so to speak. The characters, the map, the amount of things to do and of course, the best soundtrack of any GTA game. I read posts from GTA fans complaining about CJ being a wimp and a whiner compared to other protagonists (like Tommy). I'm like, please, stop taking this s*** so seriously...all I care about one thing...fun factor...SA has that and then some. I play it as much as I did when it came out nearly 16 years ago.
My second favorite would be GTA III....I just love the map, the dark, gloomy atmosphere, it's overall creepiness, and the great radio stations (doesn't get any better than K-JAH & Chatterbox w/ Lazlow).
GTA IV was more enjoyable once TLAD & TBoGT came out. I play the missions from all three in chronological order. It's impossible to create a huge city like NY in a videogame, but Rockstar did a tremendous job of creating the 'feeling' of NYC. Driving through certain areas really does feel like home. V was good, but not much to do once the main story is over...not really into online play. That's why I prefer the older games.Last edited by Jeffx; 07-16-2020, 08:29 AM.Comment

Re: Your favorite Grand Theft Auto?
****, I drive around GTA3 just to listen to Lazlow. What a time capsule that station is with it's satirical commentary. I had nearly forgotten about the big SUV craze haha.

This is why I kept my PS2, so I could still play the old GTAs. Don't care how dated they are, I never tire of playing classic games.
And thank goodness for YouTube, so I can listen to GTA music & talk radio stations while at work. Right now I'm listening to WCTR-News & Entertaining America (Lazlow interviewing OG-LOC, or Reed Tucker & Adam First phoning in to Area 53, is as good as it gets).Comment

IMO, Vice Stories has a better soundtrack than VC (I love Paradise & VCFL).
Also, I think VCS has some of the hardest (and longest) missions in the series.
(I can talk GTA all day, lol.)Comment

Re: Your favorite Grand Theft Auto?
You can play III, VC, and San Andreas on your PS4 digital only. A couple of songs are missing on VC and San Andreas though they got cut because of licensing issues.Comment
