    1. Kena: Bridge of Spirits
I've actually paused playing this for a bit, but will get back to it soon. And it's a really tough call between this and my #2 game, but I'll give Kena the slight edge.

    2. Final Fantasy VII Remake
Played the original back in 1997, but didn't grab the remake until the end of summer sale. I could have easily put this at #1. Currently playing it now and I hope to finish it over the holidays. Then it's back to Kena.

    3. MLB The Show 21
Easily my most played game. Also my favorite in the series. I'm about to finish the 2021 regular season. I'll be playing this all winter and won't pick up another MLB game until I move to the PS5.

    4. Street Fighter V
Another one I picked up on sale over the summer. I've enjoyed it way more than I thought I would, especially as an offline solo player.

    5. NBA 2K21
I picked this up on sale back in January. Played it a ton the first half of the year, but not much once summer hit. I've got about 20 games to go to finish the 2021 season, so I'm hoping to get back into this.

    6. Madden 22
Pre-ordered this, which was a mistake since I wound up waiting for the scouting update before starting my franchise. I think this may be one of the better Maddens in awhile, but I'm not as excited about the series as I once was.

    7. F1 2021
I've barely played this, although I can tell it's a great game from what I have played. Another one I'm hoping to spend more time with over the winter.

    8. Guilty Gear Strive
I have a love/hate relationship with this game. It's different from other fighters I have, which is a good thing.

    9. Ninja Gaiden Master Collection
Yet another one I need to back to. It has NG, NG2 and NG Razor's Edge. I started the first one over the summer and got sidetracked.

    10. Virtual Fighter 5
A good solid fighting game. But there's very little for a solo offline player to do. I should have done more research before buying this.

    11. Madden 21
Picked this up with 2K back in January. For whatever reason, it just never clicked for me. I barely played it.

    NR. Horizon Zero Dawn
Everybody raves about this game, but I've never been that interested in it. Still, when it was available for free back in the spring, I added it to my library. But I have yet to even download it.

    NR. Ratchet and Clank
Pretty much the same story with this as it is for HZD.
Horizon Zero Dawn is a masterpiece of a game. Usually I tend to feel very averse to anything generally overhyped, but this game just deserves all the praise and then some.

The story is incredible. Cutscenes are incredible. Graphics are amazing. Music is amazing. Gameplay is smooth. Lore is deep, rich and diverse. But above all stands the overall feeling of dread and sadness for all that was lost, once the story starts to develop.

We are all different and like different kind of things but once you get immersed in this you can't put it down. Sure, I burnt out for a while before the end, but the end got all that sweeter once I "forced" myself back in.

    Highly recommended.

Everybody I know who's played it has raved about it. There was a guy at work who's not really much of a gamer who played it, and he raved about it. For whatever reason, I've just never had any desire to play it. I'm sure I'll give it a go at some point though.

        Re: 2021 Gaming Plans

Can confirm that Horizon Zero Dawn is a masterpiece.

Here we are in December, and this is another year where I saved a lot of money on games. When I looked back at the games I bought, I actually ended up with more than I initially thought, but most of them when purchased while heavily discounted.

As far as 2021 purchases I made

Horizon Zero Dawn (PC) - Played this on PS4 when it first came out a few years ago, loved it. I badly wanted to buy it when it first released on PC last year, but there were so many complaints about various bugs so I held off.. I couldn't pass up the opportunity when it went on sale earlier this year though, and I have not been disappointed. It seems that all the post release patches fixed the major issues that I read about. The game is just so dang good.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC) - I'm not as in love with it as many others, but I recognize that it's a very well made game. I did enjoy playing it, but I probably only played through like half the story

OOTP 22 - Unfortunately I've become so jaded as to the state of sports gaming that this is the only game I buy anymore. Fortunately, this game is great.

Tales of Arise - I've loved this series since Tales of Symphonia on the gamecube. For some reason I just could not get into this one. I played for a few hours on release day, and I have not touched it since. Something about the main protagonist just didn't jive with me.

Aliens Fireteam - A decent co-op horde shooter. It suffered from an overall lack of content, but it was a lot of fun to go through the campaign with friends a couple of times.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition - I love the Mass Effect series, but to be honest I'm pretty sick of the gaming industry just releasing 10 year old games as remasters instead of putting out new content. I literally just picked this one up the other day on the Steam sale though. I couldn't justify paying $60 for a game I've already paid, but $40 wasn't too bad. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet though.

Forza Horizon 5 - I love the Forza series, and this game does not take a backseat to any of the others. So much about it feels like a reskinned version of Forza Horizon 4 though, and I actually preferred the streets of London compared to what we get here (even though Mexico is a bigger map). On the bright side they did not have any of the new BMW's with the beaver teeth grilles in the game though. So definite kudos for that.

Stellaris - I love 4x strategy games, and I found Stellaris surprisingly accessible for a Paradox game. There are also some interesting conversion mods to turn the galaxy into the one from Star Trek or even Star Wars which offer a very unique experience.

        Currently Playing
Skyrim Special Edition -I had not played Skyrim in probably close to 8 years. Somewhat ironically I got the urge to jump back into this game a couple of weeks ago without even realizing that there was a new Anniversary Edition coming out at the same time. This game is so amazing. The world just presents such a great adventure as you explore the map, easily forgetting that there is an actual main story to complete.

Total War Warhammer 2 - The 3rd and final installment of this trilogy was supposed to release this year, but it has been delayed until February. That hasn't stopped me from continuing to play this. It is by far my most played game of 2021, and my most played game on Steam historically.

            Re: 2021 Gaming Plans

Didn't complete many games this year, but I'll rank the four that I have completed. All four games were souls-like games lol.

            1. Nioh 2 - This was the last of the four games that I completed and felt like the easiest, but it was the most fun. Yokai/Dark Realms plus the CaC made this game better than Nioh 1 for me. Gameplay is fast and the enemies can be punishing if you're not careful.

2.Bloodborne - Loved the aesthetic/environment. Aggressive gameplay with the repose system makes the game very enjoyable. Ludwig was the toughest boss I beat, but was very satisfying to beat him. I didn't beat Laurence nor did I beat OOK.

            3. Nioh 1 - The first of the four games I completed, and as they say, your first souls-like games is always the hardest. Loved the combat in this game, and the customization was pretty cool. A little too much gear and the game is a little dependent on the level of your gear.

            4. Dark Souls - The slower gameplay was tough at first, but I used to it and blitzed the last few bosses and beat all the DLC bosses. The setting and inter-connected world is something to behold and the game has the most memorable bosses of the four. I can see why this game is so beloved by the fans.

Also started up San Andreas on my PS2 for the umpteenth time.
I'm playing the PS1 classic version of Resident Evil 3 and Motorstorm on my PS3 so you aren't alone.

I meant for the PS4 generation, not all time. Apologies.

GOW 2018 was amazing. Not perfect but everything from visuals to combat/gameplay and story/characters were all excellent.

GOW 2018 could be for you what BOTW is for me. LOL. Overrated, inferior and other games do the same things better but the vast majority will disagree.

                        Re: 2021 Gaming Plans

With the end of the year upon us, it is time to recap my 2021 gaming. I will say that this was a solid year in gaming for me and that the goals I set in January were met well. I did not finish the entirety of my goals but I made more progress than I have in other years. I did quite a bit of PC gaming this year. At times, it felt like I did more PC gaming than console gaming and I did.

                        2021 Goals and Games Completed

Getting a PS5: Completed in late February

                        Beat 3 PS4 games I haven’t beaten:

Spiderman (PS5): 8.5/10. This was a great game. The story was great. The gameplay was great. It was an enjoyable experience. I played through the story but did not finish the add on content. I completed quite a few of the unlockables and findables. I completed to roughly 85% overall completion.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS5): 7.5/10. I had a lot of fun playing this game. Though at times, felt a bit linear to me. I enjoyed the challenge tombs and would play it again to find everything I missed.

Horizon Zero Dawn (PS5): 9/10. Simply put, this is one of the top 5 games I have played on the PS4 generation. I had to push to finish this before Forbidden West comes out in 2022.

                        PC Gaming:

Stardew Valley (PC): 9.5/10. This is such a great and relaxing game. It is nice to sit back to and just play without too much thinking involved. My goal was to reach the beginning of year 4 which I did. Goal met. I have gotten 450 hours out of SDV and my wife has over 1,300 hours in to it on her steam account. At $15 each and $30 for both, SDV was and is the epitome of good value. The only game in my opinion that can even remotely touch the good value here is MLB 20.

Civilization 5 (PC): 8.5/10. This is the second-best civilization game there is. Second only to Civilization 2 Test of Time. My goal was to complete a campaign through domination victory. I succeeded as France playing on a difficulty I had never played before earning half a dozen new achievements in the process. It was also my longest civ game in this version. So much better than Civ 6. Next Turn… Can never say no to that.

Diablo 3 (PC): 7/10. I have always enjoyed the Diablo series. I have great memories with Diablo 2 as a young adult and all weekend gaming fests with my friends and our computers all hooked up to each other. My goal was to reach level 70 and paragon level 300 in a season as I had never accomplished that. I succeeded with a crusader and ended up reaching paragon 400 and advanced further than I ever have in the greater rifts. Solid fun that makes me look forward to Diablo 4.

Planet Zoo (PC): 8.5/10. This is such a fun and relaxing game. I love to just sit back and build and design to my heart’s content. It is just so darn relaxing. My goal here was to make the biggest zoo I have ever designed in any game ever and I did just that. I played in franchise mode so I could build my way up and it was satisfying to finish it.

Factorio (PC): 9/10. I love Factorio. I have almost 400 hours into the game since I bought it 3 years ago or so. I had never successfully launched a rocket into space, thus beating the game until this year. I finally succeeded in that goal.

Cities Skylines (PC): 8.5/10. Every year since 2018, I have created one city within the first week of the year and built that city only during that year. In 2018, my city had a population of 13,000. In 2019, I built one that got up to 24,000. In 2020, I started a city and it hit 42,000. It was my new high population number but traffic became a bit too much as the city was poorly planned. In 2021, I started a city and did some better planning and before I switched gears to another game, I got my city population up to 87,000. By far my best yet. I did use 3 mods for this. I only used the mods achieve it (which unlocks achievements with mods), the ability to buy 25 tiles, and the traffic manager mod.

                        Non-Specific Goal oriented Gaming:

Madden 21 (PS4/PS5): 7/10. This is a very solid game. I finished the 2026 season and won the Super Bowl with the Browns. Madden 21 plays a solid game of football. See below, but I actually returned to the PS5 version of this for my football fix and started a new franchise. Though I am debating going back to the PS4 version and playing 2027 on the Browns to continue story lines in progress.

                        2021 Goals Not Met:

MLB 21 The Show (PS5): 4/10. I wanted to play a complete season here with a new future Indians Franchise but that went to the wayside as I stopped playing the game in late May and actually uninstalled the game in mid-June. The score 4/10 is being generous in my opinion as I am giving SDS a few points here for making 20 such a great game. MLB21 has made it so that SDS will no longer get any sales from me. The game just went downhill so much that I just can’t. Not anymore.

Madden 22 (PS5): 5/10. I wanted to finish 2 full seasons in a Browns franchise in 2021. This is a tough one. I was stoked for this on release and early on. I enjoyed the gameplay but I ran into multiple bugs and consistent crashes doing certain things off of the field. To me, the scouting update felt lackluster and I honestly prefer the old system better. I made a backup save before the new system came out just in case. I did make it through one season with the new system before I hung it up. See above, where I turned back to M21 for my football fix for improved stability.

NBA 2k22 (PS5): 6.5/10. I wanted to write a new dynasty here with the new 2k game but that fell to the wayside when off the court issues, bugs, and changes to draft class editing hampered my experience. On the court, this game is an 8.5 to 9 easily. No questions there. Even with the incredible customization, the game is probably a 4.5 off the court. Hence the 6.5 overall.

Progress Category: 2021 Not finished (To be continued in 2022):

                        Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
                        No Man’s Sky
The Witcher 3 (waiting on the next gen update in 2022)
Red Dead Redemption 2 (third full playthrough)

Top 5 of the PS4/PC Generation:

With me moving to the PS5 but still completing some PS4 games on the new system and now with the PS4 generation completed, I have decided to share my top 5 games of the current gen.

                        1. Stardew Valley (PC)
                        2. MLB 20 The Show
                        3. Red Dead Redemption 2
                        4. Horizon Zero Dawn
                        5. NBA 2k18

                        Backlog:

At this point, my backlog is way too big to even begin to list. I made some real progress on it this year knocking out a few PS4 games. I am stopping my annual sports purchases in 2022 finally. Though I say that every year, this year it will come true. I no longer have interest in supporting SDS and the MLB franchise. I bought NBA 2k22 and Madden 22 in the fall to make up for the poor game that MLB21 was. I had different levels of disappointment with all 3 and have lost faith in all of the yearly titles.

                        2022 Buy List

Not much here that I want to buy. Most of the next gen games continue to look lackluster to me. But here are a few definite purchases:

Hogwarts Legacy (PS5): This is a day 1 buy no matter what. It’s a next gen HP game where we get to be our own wizard. If that isn’t enough to lure me in, my wife wanting it will put it over the edge.

Horizon Forbidden West (PS5): Aloy… That’s all I have to say… HZD was amazing and now we can explore underwater. Clincher. I actually pre-ordered this last night with gift cards I got as gifts.

Gran Turismo 7 (PS5): I loved 5 on the PS3. I could not get into 6 or sport, but 7 looks promising. I have an xbox one that I have never really used, but an alternate to this would be Forza 5, which I have heard good things about, though I have admittedly never played the series.

Haunted Chocolatier (PC): If this comes out in 2022, it is a day 1 buy. Eric Barone, creator of Stardew Valley, deserves support. Plus, this looks to expand on the SDV concepts.

                          1.Stardew Valley (PC)
                          2.MLB 20 The Show
                          3.Red Dead Redemption 2
                          4.Horizon Zero Dawn
                          5.NBA 2k18

                          Right there with you Funky.

I am not purchasing any sports games in 2022 unless that ESBC Boxing game ever comes out (I have doubts we ever see that....seems like the news has been dead since August).

I am diving into my backlog again in 2022.

2021 was a fine year for me. I had a tremendous amount of fun playing:

Madden 21 and for a time 22 (Shelved 22 post patch 1.7). I have gone back to 16 for my classic roster fix on Madden and will restart on Madden 21 PS5 soon.

MLB 20 kept rocking and rolling for me and we are head deep into a brand new 1993 Yankees franchise and of course we played our fifth straight year of our Yankees franchise we started back on MLB 17. It is the gift that keeps on giving MLB 20.

NBA2K22 has been a blast for me. I simply play classic team seasons.....I agree with you on franchise mode bugs that are simply to ridiculous to overcome. So I stick to one year 82 game classic seasons and I am having a lot of fun.

I was able to complete two amazing games this year in TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima. Just wow on both games.

I am currently playing No Mans Sky and The Outer Worlds and having a lot of fun with those.

In addition to my usual MLB 20 franchise play, next year I want to play and complete:

                          Guardians of the Galaxy (PS5)
                          Spiderman (PS4 version)
                          The Witcher 3 (PS5 update)
                          Horizon Dawn Forbidden West (PS5)

Hogwarts Legacy has me very curious as well.

A Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone and here is to a great 2022 for gaming.

I didn't even mention MLB 20. Man what is wrong with me? So much for editing and pre writing this out. I finally finished my 2027 Indians season and will be doing the off-season for it in the spring. Three peat done. Going to try and go for more but have some tough decisions to make on my team and future contending status. Since I three peated, I am thinking I will bump it up to HoF for 2028 as well. But I don't know on that yet.

I may revive my dynasty thread for it too. I am really digging your Sandlot dreams. And have caught a few games on twitch as well. Though I must admit it would be shortstop for the Indians for me.

I am deciding on a holdover project before I start 2028 in April as I will need a month with Aloy in Horizon. Married to a red head so have to give Aloy my undivided attention lol. I may take the 1987 roster and rebuild the Rockies as if expansion to 30 happened in 87. Could be fun. Starting from scratch.

I honestly don't envision myself moving on from 20. Even if carry over returns and they go back to check swings, it is not enough to bring me back. I mean, my 2019 roster, the 1987 and 1993 projects alone can sustain me for years.

                            -----------

I actually got the Guardians game for Christmas. Hence not on the buy list lol. Popped it in and downloaded the updates and played for an hour. I really like it a lot. Will leave it at that as to not spoil anything. Looking forward to playing it more.

                            Happy gaming in 2022!

-No new sports title purchases; continue playing the current games I have
-Commit more time to playing retro consoles and handheld systems

New game purchases will be dependent on what first party Nintendo games are released.
Overall, I did OK. Managed to not buy a console this year; I gave up trying over the summer and have been underwhelmed with the library of games, so I'm good staying with my PS4 Pro and Switch for a while longer.

I didn't get far into my backlog, so this will be a focus again 2022. Same with handheld gaming. I actually donated and sold a lot of my retro games and consoles; I'd rather reflect on memories of games played than play the games again at this point.

No NBA 2K or MLB The Show in 2021; the first time since 2006 I didn't buy at least one of those franchises.
                                Currently Playing:
                                MLB The Show 25 (PS5)
