No need to start another thread, so i'll just throw this in here.

Chances are the PS3 and the Xbox2 will be comparable in computing power. The graphics engine might be a differentiating factor. Xbox2's graphics engine is a monster. It may not be the model of efficiency when it comes to power, but it is an impressive piece of gear. Sony has some very skilled engineers, but graphics processors are a science in themselves and ATI is king of 3D graphics.

Oh and for those of you that think that the Xbox2's graphics chip is going to be a re-hash of ATI's current architecture offering... think again. This chip is designed from the ground up with some new architecture ideas. As always, not everything is revolutionary in a new graphics engine. There are only so many ways to manipulate data, but this chip is a new design.

Just in case any of you have any doubts that I know what I am talking about... I was a member of the design team at ATI that worked on the Xbox2's graphics engine. It was hands down the best project I have worked on so far as a chip designer.

To answer your question about how it will compare to PC graphics... My prediction, based on what I know about it, is that the Xbox 2 will have a better graphics engine than any PC at launch. It will eventually be overshadowed by ATI and nVidia offerings late in its life cycle. This thing is going to rock...

But like everything you read on the internet, take with a grain of salt. Read what I have written and make your own opinion. I for one am buying the next gen Xbox at launch as a personal reward for my efforts

I read this over at the IGNXbox boards. Interesting view and he's correct for the most part. Most of his comments are pretty much what we've been hearing for a while now hardware will be very even. He says ATI is the king of 3D graphics but thats kinda pushing it, IMO NV-vs-ATI is apples and oranges neither exactly blows the other out the water but each has its own strengths and weakness.

Each GPU will show its true strength on console specific games thats a given. Condemned and pretty much all multi-platform games will look almost identical.

I saw the screens today for the game and they look like screens for a high end Xbox or PS2 game. Some screens did look totally lifelike, but others just looked average. No real eye candy IMO.

The thing that got me was the comparisons between the door from the video game and the door from real life. I actually had to study both pictures for about a half minute to know the difference which was really impressive.

Yeah, they don't look as good as some other next gen titles screens, but those graphics aren't capable on the current gen systems. The door pic, and the pic showing blood spraying is very impressive. This isn't even with final development kits. Monolith seems to be going for a more artistic style of graphics. Also all next gen games will be running at 60fps, that's impressive. The deatils about the game is what's got me interested about it.
