I cannot recommend Red Dead Redemption 2 enough.

It sounds like you and I have similar open world interests and RDR 2 checks every single box. I've never played a game that took place in a world that feels so alive, realistic, and purposeful. It's quite possible to just stop playing the storyline and let life happen. Every region has something organic to explore and discover and virtually everything seems to tie into the world itself (as opposed to, say, mindlessly chasing pigeons in GTA IV).

I'm not sure there's ever been something out there that better transports you to an interactive version of 1899. If you let it, it can be complete, 100 percent immersion.

I'll also agree with what some others have said though. After playing RDR (and even GTA), it's been hard for me to accept other open worlds that don't check all the same boxes.

Yup, RDR2 is definitely a purchase. By the way, I think GTA IV is the most amazing modern open world. GTA V is a downgrade when it comes to the living breathing world.

I hope Rockstar takes more of the RDR2 route with the next GTA rather than the GTA V route.
      My Specs:

      ZX Spectrum
      CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
      GPU: Monochrome display
      RAM: 48 KB
      OS: Sinclair BASIC

        Interesting. Now I'm intrigued.

Until RDR2 (and maybe RDR), nothing topped GTA V for me. I thought GTA IV took out a lot of what I loved about GTA in the first place (freedom to do things, basically) and the world grew pretty drab over time (though it was pretty amazing at first).

I don't know if you can call GTA IV a classic GTA game, but as far as the world it's amazing, so many little details! Just look for videos and see for yourself.

Interested in AC BF, actually find the naval combat to be awesome, so I might get it.
Also looked at AC Unity which had amazing crowds and interiors, so it may be a solid purchase. As long as it runs well enough on the PS4.

Need to see more of the newer AC games.

Historical speaking, AC is one of the very few franchises that are open world and fit most of your criteria. Black Flag/Rogue are awesome. Unity is good but if you play it and if possible, play it on Xbox Series X due to FPS Boost where the game now plays at 60FPS. Not sure if it's 60FPS on PS5 as their BC isn't that good at all. On PS4/XBO, it's capped at 30FPS and usually runs in the low 20's due to all the NPC's on the screen. PS4 Pro might give it a boost but im not sure due to the CPU limitations. You already mentioned Syndicate which was great.

Origins is in Ancient Egypt and im currently replaying it which I rarely do in general but after completing Valhalla, I had to go back to the better game. Will also replay Odyssey as well later this year. After playing Valhalla, I have even more appreciation for Origins and Odyssey.

Thanks for the info. Anyway, I got a physical copy of RDR2 for PS4. It's still in the box, I have other games to play for a while, and I love leaving new games sealed, it just makes me excited knowing I have a new game waiting for me.
