This is a bit of hyperbole. Most people who have enjoyed the series less and less and aren't the biggest fans of the direction of the reboot, like myself, are simply not the biggest fans of how wacky and ridiculous the games got.

I'm fine with things like the sex toy baseball bat or the guns that bring about shark attacks or make people dance. Those are fun and you don't have to use them if you don't want to. I'm not as big of a fan of spending a huge chunk of the main storyline in a tron-like universe fighting some wacky hacker faction.

The people who complain about the direction of the game wanted to see it stay true to the first two games. Even the second game was wacky compared to the first, but the first game was clearly a competitor that's theme was similar to San Andreas and none of the factions in the game were over the top.

I've still enjoyed the series for what it has turned into, but had I had control of the series it wouldn't have gone the direction it has. People not liking how wacky the story and factions have gotten aren't hating on the game because it has millennials as characters, or because the game has minority characters, or anything like that, it's because the series has you taking on gun manufacturers, the military on floating air craft controllers, fighting in digital tron worlds, etc.

I just want to have different gangs that are more grounded that are fighting for control of a city. The territory warfare that was in San Andreas that clearly influenced the original Saints Row is the kind of stuff a lot of people like myself loved spending time playing.

This isn't to say all haters are justified or logical. There are still idiots out there saying the game has gone woke because they marketed it with a female character, or because the characters are young, whatever. Those people are idiots and should be ignored. Not all people disappointed with the direction of the series should be lumped in with those people. Many of us would have rather the game kept a theme that was more similar to what the original game had going for it versus what we have gotten the last few releases.

When actual critic/journalist scores are low, you know it has zero to do with it being "woke" lol. Most of those people would rather the game be good to spite that criticism.

I'll never get the love folks had for the first 2 games....I always felt like they tried a little too hard to be more GTA wannabes. And as someone that loathes the entire GTA series after the first two games, that was a losing formula for me.

SR3 got better and I personally like SR4 the best because it is SO over-the-top, it was just stupid fun. Too many open world games are just a bit too serious for my tastes; gaming should be fun, not a depressing simulation of real life.

It sounds like this new one is a lot closer to the last two games; that could work for me. I have a bit too much going on gaming-wise right now, but I'll definitely be picking this up.

Game Informer gave it 8.5 if you are interested to read.
Saints Row is a joyous return to form that delivers plenty of humor and some rough edges.

You need to play Saints Row 2 the amount of content in it is insane. The reboot actually has less content than SR2.

I liked it. I believe I finished 100% of that game but didn't get the platinum (or vice-versa). I don't remember anything about the story though.

I don't remember if I played it or not. If I did, probably just rented it for a very short period of time. But since it is on PS Plus, might as well play it. Especially since it is the remastered version. Even though I added Saints Row 4 to my library, don't think I might play that one

Yeah, I skipped out on SR4. If it was Gat Out of Hell, I tried playing in the beginning and said it wasn't for me.

I believe SR3 did have a time of day issue though. It might do the same thing that Spider-Man does, where after you finish a mission it stays that time of day until you do another mission that changes it.

I want to look into my old posts on the game and see all of my impressions on it, for that matter.

I think at the time, I was use to Saints Row 2 and wanted a GTA-lite game. But now, I will try to appreciate Saints Row 3 for what it tried to be. But Saints Row 4 and Gat out of Hell looked like something that had way too much creative freedom lol.

I probably might try to start it tomorrow night

Did you know that there is an Auto-Drive feature?
This guide explains how to unlock and use the secret Auto-Drive function in Saints Row (2022 Reboot). How to automatically drive to target.

I loved the first to SR games, that led to me buying 3 the day it came out. It never could capture me because of how much it changed from the first two games, especially the first.

Earlier this summer with the reboot getting closer I decided to give it another chance and just approached it as if it was a cheesy action movie and I actually was able to enjoy it enough to complete it and never felt bothered to play it either. The game may not be as pretty as GTA nor have all the tiny details around the world, nor does it have as complex of a living world as GTA, but I actually appreciated the design of the world in the game as it definitely feels different from what GTA normally goes for. It had a variety of big city areas and areas that felt more small town.

It was fun. I still need to play IV, but I just can't see myself enjoying it nearly as much even if I give it the fair shot I gave The Third a couple of months ago.

I started playing SR3 over the past couple days. Only a few missions in, but I do actually so far for what it is. I'm certain i never played it before. Besides some of the weapons and some of the themes, it doesn't have a heavy presence of over the top I expected. I did notice the time of day issue though. After the opening mission, first few missions all have been at night. Might be my TV and have to adjust, but don't really care for the night visuals.

The game starts off tame, but it will go balls to the wall over the top soon. Still a fun game if you have the right expectations.
