    Re: 2022 gaming plans

A little update as we roll into MLBTS season....

Still playing through Horizon: Forbidden West and enjoying my MLBTS 21 franchise. Recently got the urge to play more low-key games. Replayed Life is Strange: Before the Storm to experience the remaster (waiting for some graphical patches for the Life is Strange remaster before playing that). Also hunkered-down and played through Life is Strange: True Colors for the first time and that was freakin' fantastic. Also started back to playing a franchise in Madden '21 (PS5 version) and I have been enjoying that a lot.

Picked-up Tiny Tina's Wonderlands on a lark. It's small enough that it can reside on my hard drive for those "I feel like a mindless shooter" moments; but it isn't compelling enough that I want to finish it quickly.

The new few months will likely be me obsessively playing MLB: The Show 22. But this is where I am right now....

    Games finished in 2022:
    Final Fantasy VII Remake
    Horizon: Zero Dawn
Life is Strange: Before the Storm (re-play)
    Life is Strange: True Colors

Games I am playing right now:
    MLBTS 21 franchise
    Madden '21 franchise
    Horizon: Forbidden West
    Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

    In the immediate queue:
MLB The Show 22 (this obviously flips to active on April 1)
    Life is Strange remaster

    Played some and tossed aside:
WWE2k22 - got super frustrated with a MitB match in MyRise - I'll revisit the game later
Twin Mirror - I like the game's design but just didn't care for the characters

    Games/series I plan on re-playing in 2022:
    Mass Effect Trilogy
    Guardians of the Galaxy
    Tomb Raider Trilogy

    Likely 2022 purchases:
    Lego: Star Wars
    Star Trek: Resurgence

    On the fence purchases:
    Forspoken
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

I'm currently playing MBa2k21, and it is a great game for all the supports fans. But I'm looking forward to playing an archery game butt, but unfortunately, I didn't have much, and I found archero very entertaining.

I never imagined I'd be having the fun I'm having with WWE 2K22. I'm having a blast.

I'm looking forward to The Quarry. I love choice games that decide how it plays out, like who lives and dies on your choices.

I'm a sports nut but they have taken a back seat since these days they mainly focus on onliners as opposed to offliner like myself.

          Goals
Buy PS5 - Completed Early Jan
          Buy/Build new PC - TBD
Complete 1 Total War Warhammer Campaign - Almost complete

          Games to buy:
          PS5
          Forspoken - PS5/PC - (Delayed) - Currently have it preordered for PS5
Vampire the Masquerade Swansong - PC - (5/19) - TBD

          If they come out:
Starfield (11/11) - This is a day 1 purchase whenever it comes out. It seems like a prime candidate for a delay though.
Bayonetta 3 - It's Bayonetta which is enough for me
Hogwarts Legacy - Day 1 purchase
Star Ocean The Divine Force - I love this series. So, this will always be a must buy.
Star Trek Resurgence - An actual exploration game in the Star Trek universe.
Starship Troopers Terran Command - PC - (6/16)

          Currently Playing
          PC
Tiny Tina's Wonderland - I didn't remember hearing anything about this game until it was released. Bought it after watching the trailer, and I was not disappointed. Main story completed and currently doing some endgame stuff
Diablo 3 - Season 26 starts Friday which I plan on playing.

          PS5
          Fifa 22 - Very casually

Games I was playing at various points the last few months but have currently tabled.
          Total War Warhammer 2 (PC)
Total War Warhammer III (PC) - Purchased, but it has major issues that need to be fixed. Waiting on those patches
          Elder Scrolls Skyrim (PC)
          Saints Row IV (PC)
          Horizon Zero Dawn (PC)
          The Outer Worlds (PC)
          Control (PC)
          Mass Effect Legendary Edition (PC)
          Spiderman Remastered (PS5)
Gran Turismo 7 (3/4) - Played a lot for a couple weeks, but the in-game economy was such a turnoff that I haven't been motivated to go back.

          In the queue
Horizon Forbidden West (2/1) - Bought. Currently unopened. I still have the final mission in the first game to complete.
Ghosts of Tsushima Directors Cut (PS5)
          Kena Bridge of Spirts (PS5)
          Oddworld: Soulstorm (PS5)
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (PS5)

Did Not Buy - Curious which games I originally planned/considered buying but didn't.
Rainbow Six Extraction (1/20) - Did not buy since my group didn't want to play it.
OOTP 23 - Baseball is basically dead to me at this point. This will end a streak, going all the way back to All-Star Baseball 97, in which I got a new baseball game every year.
Pokemon Legends - Switch - (1/28) - Maybe one day
          CrossfireX - XSX - (2/10) - Terrible reviews
Elden Ring - PC - (2/5) - Maybe one day
          Elex 2 - PC - (3/1) - Maybe one day
Sifu (PS5) - When the physical edition comes out
Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection - PS5 - Maybe one day

Got back into GTA Online with the latest edition. Also playing through the story for the second time.
Hardly buying any XBOX any games due to Gamepass, which gives me a permanent backlog.
In the very beginning of Halo Infinite.
Next up may be Life is Strange True Colors.
            Looking forward to Starfield.
On PS4 just started Ghosts of Tsishima, then I have Last of Us 2.

                  Let’s get right into it.

                  Sports Games Goals:

This one has a few parts to it. First, I am no longer making my annual sports game purchases. To me, 2021 was a disappointing year for sports games. I won’t recap like I did in the 2021 thread, but will leave it as I am not making any of these purchases this year. This means the goals here are simpler and based on previous year releases in most cases.

MLB 20 (PS5) Franchise – The main goal is to play the 2028 season in my Indians franchise and go for a fourth straight World Series victory. I am sitting at the beginning of the offseason now and will start that in March or April. I have some big decisions to make on my team this year. I may re-open my dynasty thread for it, but that is a secondary objective and not part of the goal.

MLB 20 (PS5) RTTS – The goal here is to get at least another full season closer to free agency. I have finished 2022 as a SS for the Seattle Mariners and had a heck of a year. My contract is through 2026 so I am looking to finish at least 2023 during the year.

MLB 20 (PS5) Quick Manage – My goal is to get through at least 1 season in a quick manage franchise. I have heavily edited a new roster file over the last few months and will be doing this franchise with the Rockies. I have actually changed things up and turned on 30 team control for the first time ever. We will see how it goes.

NHL 22 (PS5) – I got this as a Christmas gift so I have done nothing more than install it and comb through the uniforms. The plan here is to take the Bluejackets and sim them to a Stanley Cup. I have had varying levels of success in the past with NHL games, my last being NHL 20. The last time I led a team to a Stanley Cup victory was in NHL 19 with my expansion Hartford Whalers. That was the only time. At least it was back-to-back Cups. My goal is to change that. Rule here is that it is sim only. No playing.

Madden 21 (PS5) – The goal is to start a new rebuild project and lead that team to victory. Once the team is a contender, I like to play a season and earn the Super Bowl victory myself. I have this narrowed down to a few teams, though I am still deciding.

                  PC Gaming:

This was a huge part of my 2021 gaming and will likely continue to be in 2022. I did more PC gaming than just the games I met my 2021 goals on. In 2022, I look to expand on those goals and to make and finish new ones. I will break this down into a couple of sub goals.

Finish Goals on 4 PC Games – I have set goals for a slew of PC games and I look to finish 4 of them. Some of these games are Stardew Valley, Factorio, Planet Zoo, Cities Skylines, Project Hospital, Civilization 5, and Software Inc. I will not share all of the games or goals right now. Just know it is extensive and fairly aggressive on my part. Some specific examples of goals include: Stardew Valley (Reach year 7 on my game I reached year 4 on in 2021. This expands on my previous goal that was already a personal best) and Cities Skylines (Make a new city and reach a population of 100k, which will also improve on my best.)

Play 5 new PC games – I am not buying any new games on the PC in 2022. Unless Haunted Chocolatier comes out this year. I have a large library on my steam account of games I have gotten over the years on sale but have not played. The goal is simple, play 5 of those games. The real goal here is to play and enjoy one of the 5 and add it to the previous goal.

Beat 3 new games in 2022:

Next goal is to once again beat 3 games I have not beat. Looking below at my 2022 buy list, at least 1 of those will likely be from that list. I have a massive backlog of games at this point. As opposed to saying I am going to make progress on it I am setting a specific goal. If I say I make progress, I end up beating 1 game then adding 4 to the backlog and it grows. This way, I am pulling games from the list but not worrying about making it smaller. This worked very well in 2021.

                  Re-beat 1 Final Fantasy game:

One of my favorite game series of all time. The Final Fantasy series. There are so many to choose from here. I will look into beating 6, 7, 9, or 10 as those are my favorites. I am not a big fan of 8 so that is not on the list. I really enjoyed 13 on the PS3 but it is too linear for my taste. Nothing like beating a game you have before. The current front runner is 9 as it is my all time favorite. I should note that I have the remasters of 7, 9, and 10 on the PS5 and I have FF6 on my SNES retro system.

                  Progress Category:

Right now, I really only have one active game to make progress in and that is No Man’s Sky. Last year, this category included The Witcher 3 (waiting for next gen update), Skyrim, and Fallout 4. I only played No Man’s Sky and Skyrim in 2021. So, in 2022, No Man’s Sky progress is a category in itself.

                  2022 Purchases:

These are my definite 2022 purchases. No sports games included.

Hogwarts Legacy (PS5): Day one purchase
Horizon Forbidden West (PS5): Already on pre-order
                  Gran Turismo 7 (PS5)

                  2022 Maybe Purchases:

Elden Ring (PS5): Looks good but still deciding.

                  Let's get right to it.

                  Sports games:

My goals have definitely changed here as I ended up buying MLB22 after a lot of debate. I am playing a future Cleveland franchise and enjoying it quite a bit. It is on par with MLB20 and way better than 21.

As far as sports games, I make still not buying any others. Madden and NBA 2k were disappointments to me so I am done with the new games and will go back to earlier titles.

                  PC Gaming:

This was a huge category for me in 2021 but that is no longer the case. I ended up giving my son my gaming PC for his 13th birthday so I no longer own a gaming PC. So this category is on hold until further notice.

                  Beat 3 games in 2022:

Horizon Forbidden West: I beat this just the other day. Definitely better than the first. At about 72 percent completion so I still have some side content to do.

                  Re-beat 1 final fantasy game:

Final Fantasy 9: My favorite. I beat it for the well I don't know how many times at this point. Still the best final fantasy game in the series.

                  Purchases so far:

                  Horizon Forbidden West PS5
                  Elden Ring PS5
                  MLB 22 PS5
WWE 2k22 PS5: Just got this on sale for 25 percent off. My last was 2k19 and before that was way back around 2008 or so. Starting a universe soon but still in the process of setting everything up. Deciding if I am going to write it up or not.

                  Purchases to make:

Hogwarts Legacy PS5: This looks to finally have a release window in the fall. Super stoked for this.

                  Next on tap is:

Days Gone PS4 version on PS5: I had tried this game once before but stopped early on because of the whole gas tank dynamic. I didn't realize I could refill at the tower so I was running out of gas and running around trying to find gas cans. I figured I was missing something and decided to retry it and low and behold at my base, there was a way to refill your tank. Now that I know this, I am thoroughly enjoying this game. I am not very far but I enjoy the survival aspect. I am not a big zombie game fan but this one feels different with human enemies and other things mixed in.

                  Still finishing:

Elden Ring PS5: I am around level 110 and enjoying this game quite a bit. It is not my first souls game but definitely the most enjoyable. I am slowly working my way through it.

                  Still deciding:

Still deciding if I am going to venture back into the dynasty subforum and start a new dynasty. I have written half a dozen attempts since my last posted one but none have felt right. I may be venturing back to them to do a WWE one but I don't know yet.

I've stayed true, for the most part, to my earlier plans even though I did get a PS5

I've only purchased MLB '22, Ratchet and Clank on PS5, and Kirby on the Switch. I was gifted WWE 2k22, but not really a fan as I'm not a wrestling guy much these days.

For the most part I've been buying retro games and systems. I bought a new original Nintendo as a backup and found a silver PS2 to replace the one that quit working.

Not much in terms of retro games I've found as hunting has been limited and selection hasn't been as good as I'd like. Some good games but just can pay the inflated prices.

Going out this Saturday to retro hunt again where the primary focus will be my Sega Genesis collection.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                      Re: 2022 gaming plans

Well, I caved and pre-ordered M23. I hope I don't regret it. I actually enjoyed M22, but ran out of steam with it the last couple of months.

And for $9, I picked up 2K22. Early impressions are that it's much better than 2K21. I don't have any plans to get 2K23 anytime soon, so I'll get my $9 worth.

Also picked up the Mass Effect trilogy back in May on sale. I haven't even started it yet, but I'll get to it at some point. Never played any ME game, but it's my brother's favorite series.

Still rolling with MLB 21 though. I'll probably pick up 22 on sale at some point, but I'm way too invested in my franchise to start over. And, for me, 21 has been hands down the best in the series.

And I'm still quite content with the PS4 Pro for the time being.

                        I'll probably get M23, I skipped 22.

The only game left this year for me that is a guaranteed purchase is Hogwarts Legacy.

I also picked up the remastered Mafia games. So far I think the first one was done better than 2, but I just started 2.

Horizon Forbidden West (2/1) - Bought. Currently unopened. I still have the final mission in the first game to complete.

Honestly, this might be it. Going to try and shy away from shooters this year. They have taken up all of my gaming time the last two years.

                              Currently playing:

MLB 20 - The gift that keeps on giving.

                              Madden 16 - See above

Madden 21 NG - 16 is a better game but 21 has some retro rosters I simply love and I am working on a M23 roster for M21 NG

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order PS5 Enhanced version - Wow am I loving this game!!!! One of the top 3 Star Wars games I have ever played….and it is an EA game which is whoa!!!

                              Played in 22:

Elden Ring - poured about 65 hours in and called it a day. Was fun but the grind wore me out.

Spiderman - Really really enjoyed this!

MLB 22 - in motion the best sports game ever made….the reality for me though is MLB 20 is superior with it’s hitting engine and wide variety of outcomes. Check swings are huge huge fail that started with 21 and continues with 22…..we had fun but we went home to MLB 20

                              Planned purchases at this time:

None we are waiting for Black Friday to see what non sports games we can scoop up potentially.

I'm about 60 games into the first season on The Show 22, playing as The Braves. Having a good time with that. I plan on at least completing the whole season. Might get 23 after that, don't know. If it has carry over saves I will. If not, I might just continue playing 22. It just depends on how I feel at the time.
I've kind of been playing WWE 2k22 and NBA 2k22 on the side. I actually quite like the Domination single player mode in MyTeam on NBA 2k22, I've been playing that some. When I play WWE 2k22 I usually just play GM Mode but I've put at least probably 20 hours on each of those.

Also, just bought a gaming PC. I am thinking of jumping into Baldur's Gate. I might also jump back into Super Mega Baseball 3. I had SMB3 running on my Switch a bit over a year ago and was having a good time before I got caught up in some other things. A lot of it just depends on time to be honest.

I should also note I've been playing Draft Day Sports College Basketball almost every morning for the past year. It's a great "wake up your mind along with a cup of coffee before going into work" kind of game.
