Re: Elden Ring
My biggest complaint isn't the difficulty level (but that may change).
The lack of explanation is unforgiving. I'll give some examples:
I've got golden runes but what are they for? Had to look it up. I had like 40 of them in my inventory before I Googled how to use them.
I've got a third "spell" now. No, wait it's not a spell it's an incantation. Got it. But I can't equip it. Oh, I have to open up a memory slot for the third spell? I must have missed that. Okay, I got a third memory slot open up so now I can equip the incantation. But I can't actually use it. To do that I need a finger seal. Holy cow.
Despite all that I've played about 13 hours since launch and I'm at level 23. Still in the "starting area". I've dished out some punishment when I'm not totally confused and been killed many, many times.Comment

Re: Elden Ring
Using the spirit in particular was invaluable to me beating the first boss (or rather, the first boss I ran into after the tutorial area, open-ended game so YMMV):
Spoiler
Margit, right before Stormveil. After getting my face bashed in for about an hour in true Souls fashion, I noticed the glowing icon on the left side of the screen. I hadn't summoned a spirit up to that point so I didn't know what it was until I went into the inventory and started looking for info on it. The only one I had was a jellyfish, but after soloing his first phase calling it in served as enough of a distraction to let me get some good damage in from behind. It still took several more deaths, but finally, with me out of flasks and the jellyfish dying, I managed to dodge one more attack and deliver the final blow. Felt really good, as all first-time accomplishments in Souls games typically do.

Elden Ring
That’s a great point about the tutorials. I’ve gone back many times myself to look at different things. More games need that feature.
I’m about 12 hours in and haven’t even sniffed Margit yet, just really enjoying the open world. I now have 2 summons that’s are both upgraded. A few unbelievably sick weapons, a couple of which I’m not strong enough for. As well as 7 crimson flasks that all replenish in full and a special flask that I made myself. I can’t remember what it’s called but it’s replenishes my health in full and gives a buff to all my stats for 3 minutes.
I believe I’m up to like level 25 now and just took out castle morne. People who say this game is too hard just aren’t patient enough to build their character. They want to beat the game in 5 hours. For someone who has never played a Souls game and is just really living in this open world, I could see this taking me 100+ hours easy. Which is absolutely a welcomed thought, because I don’t want this game to end any time soon [emoji23]Last edited by tc020791; 02-27-2022, 09:50 AM.Comment

Re: Elden Ring
I have tried Margit a few times now both Solo and Summoning people and haven't beat him. Been working on leveling up so I can go back and try again. Also, I agree the Open World makes it so good because you can just go somewhere else.Comment

Re: Elden Ring
Finally started to hit a wall on my 3rd demi God boss. The worst part is the distance you have to run to reach him every time you restart. I've got 40 hours into the game already, cleared alot of the map, and there is still so much of the world I have yet to touch. This game is absolutely massive.
Despite all of the bosses I have cleared so far, I haven't encountered what I would consider an "iconic" boss like
SpoilerGael and Friede
SpoilerArtorias and orstein/smough
SpoilerGherman
Someone that I just look back and adore everything about the encounter. I hope that changes as I play through the rest of the game.Last edited by mikenoob; 02-28-2022, 10:41 AM.Comment

Re: Elden Ring
Finally beat Margit Saturday and the Tree Sentinel last night.
SpoilerAlso took out Battlemage Hugues last night as well in one of those Evergael boss fights. Same with the Bloodhount Knight. Got Hugues as a summon, he costs more than my FP bar so far lmao
At about level 40 after some grinding yesterday, 18 hours in. This game is amazing lolLast edited by JazzMan; 02-28-2022, 05:48 PM.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Re: Elden Ring
Getting this next week. Can't wait to dive in. Currently playing through Horizon and anxious to get this one started. May have to split time between the 2 of them.
The only souls games I played previously was Dark Souls 3 and had fun with it. Definitely a challenge. But the open world do what you want is hard to pass up.
I am going to go with the Hero class and wield a giant axe or hammer or go the complete opposite and go with Astrologer and go the magic route. Likely the Hero class first but have until Sunday to decide.Funkycorm

Re: Elden Ring
Magic is really, really good in this game. I'd say almost OP at times lol, it's at least great for safe grinding
I went with the Prisoner class. Seems like an awesome balance between ranged and close combat. Here's me taking on the Tree Sentinel at level 39 lol

Re: Elden Ring
Played some more today and I am done. I really don’t see how I am expected to make any progress when everything I encounter kills me in 2-3 hits.
And the combat just does not feel good at all. It feels like there is a delay with everything and there is no fluidity.
People keep on telling me to just wait for it to ‘click’ and once it does the game and so good but I’m just not feeling it and don’t feel like wasting any more of my time on a game that feels like it needs a lot of polish considering you can’t play aggressively or defensively. Seems like your only option is to run away from everything.
This game is like a Monty Python ‘run away’ simulator. 0/10. Would not recommend. [emoji107]

Re: Elden Ring
I'm over whelmed right now between this game, DL2 and Horizon all 3 games are huge.
I'm near the end of DL2 so might just knock that out and then split time between this and Horizon.
Elden Ring is more like a slow burn and grind so I have no plans to rush this one.

Re: Elden Ring
I feel same way, besides dying everywhere, no idea where I am supposed to go. My fault though, thought was a Witcher type rpg. Should of researched better, marketing made it seem like a rpg. But action rpg, with just bosses is more like it is. Unless I am missing something? Should atleast have option to turn on and off points to go in game story related? Or is the story just killing bosses? No idea as game hardly tells me anything.

There will be people that will spend 100 hours on this game and not even scratch the surface of the story, lore, or symbolism.
Think of it like this: most games are books. Books are linear, start to finish. This "book" has no spine, it's just pages thrown about in a 5 square foot room telling you to make a book out of the loose pages.
It's a big reason as to why these games have such a cult following in the first place, people can be veterans of the series and go back to DS1 or something and still find something brand new that barely anyone has seen before. The fan theories, the community piecing together the lore, etc., it's a big draw
Should also say I'm FAR from a Souls vet lol. They never really interested me, until I played Bloodborne. After I get done with Elden Ring 3 years from now I'll look into the Demon Souls remake I thinkLast edited by JazzMan; 02-28-2022, 09:51 PM.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus
