    Re: Most Disappointing games

For me I would have to say the "Modern" Assassins Creed games. From Origins on they just have lost the thread in my opinion. I have played them all and enjoyed them, I guess. But they are Historical Action RPG's and not really Assassins Creed games anymore.

The Last of Us 2 was just horrible

Mass Effect Andromeda my face is just tired

Batman Arkham Knight or Batmobile Simulator

MLB The Show 21 just blah catering to the Card Collecting Ultimate Team crowd.

Those are my main let downs of this "generation"
In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

My heart and soul hurt for your lost presence in my life.

God of War: I just could not get into it. I tried 3 different times and each time I started over I only got a bit further. Maybe I didn't get far enough but it felt too linear to me.

Immortals Fenyx: I didn't really like the art direction here and it was too distracting.

I love a good open world game and a good rpg, but I just could not get into the above ones.
Going to add a few more here:

MLB 21: Gave it 100 hours before I went back to 20. Now with 22 out, 21 is even more disappointing.

Madden 22: This was the best Madden out of the box for me. The scouting patch and subsequent gameplay patches ruined it. I would have rather had the OOTB progressive fatigue bug than even sniff the new scouting system.

NBA 2k22: This is tricky. It is not a bad game. On the court it plays great. But off the court, there was plenty of regression and issues with editing draft classes. Took a step backwards off the court as a whole. Yes, unmatched in customization but servers being shut off will kill this in 2 years. Very disappointed in the game as a whole.

Breath of the Wild: Yes I have a Switch. Well my kids do. And I know this is another unpopular opinion. I have those a lot. But honestly where do I begin. I tried this game 3 different times. The third time after a long time trusted friend urged me to give it another try. Got further that time than the first 2 rounds. The equipment system is ridiculous. The durability is sub par. Had to carry 4 weapons of the same type at a time and still ended up having to use a branch as a sword multiple times. I am all for durability on gear. Give me a sword to start and let it degrade so I can repair it. Then I can upgrade and replace it as I go. Poor design choice. I did quite a bit of exploring as well and the world was very good looking and open but it wasn't enough. Personally not even a top 5 switch game to me. Maybe I didn't get far enough. But the last attempt was 20 hours at least.

Halo Infinite: The open world didnt add anything to the game i much prefer the normal Halo experience.

Batman Arkham Knight: To much batmobile and the endless tanks.

Watch Dogs Legion: I needed a main character and it just didnt work playing as different characters and its the same Ubisoft formula.

          Cyberpunk.

I don’t game much anymore and it’s typically sports games unless it’s Metal Gear, Watch Dogs, GTA or RDR. I bought into the hype on cyberpunk and managed to wait for the next gen patch. I don’t know what it is, it seems like this would be my type of game and I just can’t get into it. When I play, it’s alright but I don’t have the strong “holy crap when can I play next” vibe.

It’s just meh to me and definitely isn’t what I hoped.

3 that are top of mind when I see the title:

              Backbreaker (PS3 / 360 era)
Just felt like a tech demo with a specific vision, one that wasn't either respected or wanted by it's intended audience. Some fun moments but for the most part overwhelmed by flaws in execution and approach. Handled differently it's a game I think we could still be playing today in some form (though probably on mobile).

              Iron Harvest (PC)
This RTS had all the promise of a Company of Heroes game, but ultimately it's focus on competitive play left the base building and many other aspects too shallow. The rock paper scissors of units doesn't feel very good and there's little progression through tiers. Just doesn't come close to delivering on admittedly very high expectations.

              Starcraft 2 (PC)
I really wanted this to take on the grandiose scale of Supreme Commander or Ashes of the Singularity, rather than the apm-fueled e-sports product they delivered. My want is more divergent with the first game, so it's my fault for having misplaced expectations, but I am just not interested in the claustrophobic RTS anymore. A large RTS with a dozen players / AI on a single map each with hundreds (or more) units... would be glorious.

                UFC 3 and 4 - I loved EA's UFC 2 a lot, think it's still a much better MMA fighting game than 3 and 4 were

Final Fantasy XV - gorgeous graphics and a great setting ruined by one of the worst, choppiest stories I've ever seen in any media. Combat was also a joke, had absolutely none of the traditional FF core gameplay elements. Magic was stupid. Warp strike was so OP you could just beat the whole game just by mashing one button. All of the cool boss fights were just cinematic experiences with quick time events - the actual boss fights using the game's combat system was just not good. Game sucked, haven't tried all the DLCs on it but not sure I'll ever go back to it. Maybe another day

Spider-Man - just can't get into it tbh. I loved the Arkham games but aside from the web swinging in the city it just doesn't hold my attention that well. Maybe I need to give it another shot soon

                  Them's fightin' words!

I remember a custom map in Starcraft Brood War that was kind of like that. Up to 8 players, each with their own army to control. The mechanics were pretty basic, but it was definitely fun. I imagine that a more advanced system would be very hard to implement performance wise though.

Totally agree about Watch Dogs Legion. Other than the vehicle design and improved damage and physics from WD2, I hated everything else about this game.
Boring open world, boring map, boring characters, the Play-As-Anyone gimmick really ruined it for me. I still play WD2 occasionally, but got bored with WDL after a very short playing time.

For me...Mass Effect Andromeda. With the hype surrounding that game, it fell flat on its face.

Thankfully, they took great care with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition and it has me hyped for the potential of a TRUE Mass Effect 4.

I noticed a ton of people mentioning Madden 22. I stopped letting Madden disappoint me after Madden 19.

I am a huge Mass Effect fan, so Andromeda was a kick in the nuts. The characters and writing in that game are laughably bad, it's hard to believe someone got paid to do that work.

My biggest disappointment was SimCity in 2013, I was super pumped for that game, even building a new PC. When the game released and the map sizes were that of SimCity 2000, that was a sad day. As a kid, I grew up with SimCity, so it's demise was especially painful. Thank god for Cities: Skylines though.

Sim City 2013 is a great one I didn't even think about. I was so hyped for that game. It did many things well and the UI felt very polished, but the overall package was very disappointing. It felt like multiple steps back for the franchise and they clearly haven't recovered. That's an EA tradition these days.

While far from perfect, ateast we got Cities Skylines to fill the void that Sim City left.

I enjoyed playing but could not complete the main story for either game. It is a huge disappointment and I still can't figure out the hang up.
