Yes, they created their own ability to support C:S by releasing approximately a couple dozen items of paid DLC for C:S in that time frame. That’s the business model. At the same time, each major DLC release also added mechanics and bug fixes into the base game free of charge. Reasonable minds can beg to differ but I think this is a more honest and transparent way to support continuous development of their games than, say, a live service card game mode.

I assume their other games have operated similarly, but even just based on C:S alone, I think there plenty of evidence supporting having faith in Paradox to do right by their players of C:S II over time than, say, any AAA licensed sports game developer.

Granted, as I previously mentioned, I’m a console player. I have no choice but to wait for performance fixes which are apparently stopping the on-time console release of the game. I think if you’re concerned about frame drops and such, you can and should easily justify waiting to buy.
It's a tricky subject with Paradox.

As long as their is an opportunity to offer some premium DLC, they will do it. It doesn't always mean that those games receive the same level of support though. For instance Stellaris, Europa, and Hearts of Iron IV are examples where the game was well received and have received substantial patches over time (along with dozens of DLC opportunities for Paradox to continue milking their cash cow). But then there are instances like Victoria 3 and Empire of Sin whose launches were not as stellar and they still are not in great shape (pretty sure EoS has been completely abandoned and the jury is still out on Victoria 3 if they will keep supporting it given the poor reception).

To be fair, I think C:S is popular enough to not get abandoned due to the legacy interest that it carries (and DLC potential). Overall there is a pretty good chance of support, but I just never like having to 'hope' that something will get done in instances like this. And hope that they do more than just offer new premium features instead of going back to fix potential issues.

This is all just speculation of course. Hopefully the comment was taken more to mean than what a lot of people think, and that these reported performance leaks are on older builds of the game which are less optimized. It's fortunate that gamepass exists to be able to jump in and try something like this risk free.

According to PCGamesHardware.de, performance of the launch window build of C:S II is GPU-bound and is generally far more taxing on graphics hardware than Cyberpunk 2077 on max settings.

If you don't have an absolute unit of a gaming PC, maybe hold off on this one for a bit.

Reading the articles on performance now, and sheesh. 4080's on 1440p high average 16 fps.

That's really really bad. I want to believe they will fix performance with updates shortly after release, but it's hard to have too much hope with how games are handled these days in the industry.

Well here are my specs, i5-12600, 32Gb DDR 4 RAM, 4080 RTX, SSD 980 Pro

If it runs like a dog then I will be the first to man up and eat some humble pie about my comments in this thread.

We shall see though. I suspect they mean that a full city will run like a dog, even on ultra systems, which if that's the case, hopefully it's patched quick because it may take some of us a bit of time to get that far.

These were from small cities with less than 50,000 people.

                Re: Cities Skylines II

Sounds like there was an update to the game on Friday, which was interesting because content creators had been told that they were already on the release build. Maybe the devs have been listening to some of the pushback from their announcement. The new update provides "between 1% and 5% performance boost" according to this creator. So, not a lot. However, he did find that turning off Vsync yielded some pretty noticeable results.

He goes through his whole methodology here, but he tested a number of cpu/gpu combinations. These tests were performed with the game state being in the mid to late game with a city pop of 100k. On the city pop size, at least in this person's test, performance was not linearly impacted by city pop size. There was a large performance drop going from ~1k to 10k and 10k to 20k. From 20k to 75k though only resulted in about a 4fps drop.

Here is a chart of the results
                https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1599548328

It's technically playable, but it's still not a great story.
I won't repeat all of the data in the chart, but basically if you have a 1440p or 4k monitor then don't expect to play on high settings regardless of how great your hardware is. A 1080p monitor running flagship CPU and GPU combination (7950x3d & 4090) just barely achieved a 60fps average on high settings. That drops to about 40fps on a 1440p monitor, occasionally dipping below 30 fps on the lows.
*Note, "high" settings here are a modified "high" with still a few graphical settings turned off (not just Vsync).

If you have not dumped thousands of dollars into your PC, then the game will likely only be playable on low to medium settings, with GPU being the most important factor but still noticeable differences in some of the CPU's (again, don't dream of running at higher than a 1080p monitor). You're not getting 60 fps unless you're on very high end hardware, regardless of settings, but there are a number of budget and mid range hardware combinations which can achieve 30-40fps on low to medium settings)

It's one downside to a global release, but at least I'm fortunate to work from home, so I'll be able to fire it up immediately.

Jumped in just to just test some things on gamepass.

                      CPU - AMD 7900X3D
                      GPU - Nvidia 4090
                      Ram - 64gb DDR5
                      Monitor - 1440P

90 seconds into the first city, just a road and creating 1 small residential and 1 small industrial zone (no water/power, etc)

                      Default High Settings - ~60fps
                      Default Medium Settings - ~100fps

Default High settings with VSync off has me getting 25fps before I put a road down. Even the main menu was a laggy mess. Going to have to tweak some settings to get this playing better, but it's about as disappointing as I was expecting given what we were told by those with early access.

I prefer STEAM due to MS locking down their executable files etc..
I use Logitech game software to program certain keyboard controls to my mouse buttons as well as my gameboard..
I select the games EXE when I make a profile and it loads up icon of game etc..

On Game pass I cannot select the EXE file as it's locked down.

I can still manually make a profile etc.. with game pass games but it's less seamless for me.

Second is I like outright owning my games rather than needing to keep subscribing. Just a personal pref.
I rarely buy games much these days except for Simulations and survival games.. So I don't really spend a whole lot on games in a year.
So basically use GP to play game a while to help decide if I want to go all in.
