    Diablo 4

Well D4 comes out June 6, 2023. I know that we have had some Diablo fans here in the past.

I played the open beta this weekend, and it was fun. The story was pretty interesting, as far as the beta allowed us to go and combat was classic Diablo. The new open world mechanics were definitely a departure for the franchise. It was fun seeing random events appear in the open world, with random other players in the vicinity joining in.

The neatest part was the world boss who appeared at specific intervals throughout the day. He was a challenge, requiring a large number of players, and beating him resulted in some great loot drops.

Prior to playing the beta I had decided that this one was going to be a hard pass for me given Blizzard's recent track record and my dislike of their *monetization*, but now I am on the fence as I did enjoy the experience.

It is still unclear what the endgame loop will be, which I do find a bit surprising being we are so close to release. That will be the biggest make it/break it feature of the game though.

    *Clarification on above*

      Re: Diablo 4

So, I'm intrigued and getting this.

My history with this game is from middle school. My buddy had 5 computers in his house, and his mom bought 5 copies of Diablo II.

We had a 3 day straight stay-over during the summer, and we just played the crap out of the game. It was a blast!

That friend would move away later that summer, and I never played Diablo again.

I talked a few of my friends into it, and we are all going to give it a try for a real first time. I'm hoping it is a good time!

        Re: Diablo 4

I miss those old LAN parties and couch coop experiences.

Played a ton of D2 as a kid

D3 I probably have more total hours in but less enjoyment.

D4 definitely seems promising. Having friends all get the game like you mentioned is what really makes these games fun though.

Diablo 2 LAN parties were the best! We had a couple the summer I graduated from high school.

As far as 4, I am very much looking forward to it. I am a fan of Blizzard and played the heck out of 3.

I haven't pre ordered it yet, but I will be soon as I am still deciding which version I want to get.

Just bought the game. Plan to do a whirlwind barbarian build. I'm not a Diablo veteran player, but enjoy the game in the past. If anyone wants to run some things in the end game stuff later hit me up.

So far so good on the PC. Smooth gameplay. Haven't played a Diablo in many years.

                    Re: Diablo 4

I enjoyed the beta weekend, but the live game has been much better. The first 25 levels from the beta only scratched the surface of what you get here.

Obligatory, this game's monetary value is highly suspect and if you have any qualms about that then I don't blame you for skipping it (that was me up until about an hour before the early access launch when I caved to some peer pressure from a couple of buddies who got it ).

However, there is no denying that the game is fun. Queue times have been non existent (we'll see what happens on full retail release). The story is a bit is interesting. Combat feels much more like old school diablo. Just seems more methodical (this may change as builds and gear get fully optimized).

Endgame is really cool. There are a couple of different things that I've been able to do so far after completing the campaign, things that I'm enjoying more than the greater rifts of Diablo 3.

Is it just me or did they severely limit the amount of legendary drops ? I only had 1 in a week. I get rare 97% of the time and magical the other 3%. I also don't like how they nerf the hell out of sorcerer. Chain lightening is so weak now that it isn't worth using anymore. Basically all the AOE attacks sorcerer had is watered down severely now.

I have not noticed any diminished legendary drops unless you're referring to the original beta weekends where all drops and experience were cranked up.

Legendary drops are always low in these games, but I have felt that the rates are fine. This is also going to depend on what tier (difficulty) you are on. If you're on T3 (Nightmare) or T4 (Torment) there are a lot of ways to increase your odds of getting legendaries.

The good thing about this game is that legendaries are not quite as important as in prior Diablo games. You still absolutely need them, but it's also easy to turn a Rare into a Legendary if you have previously found that aspect. It's still a grind, as is the case in any loot-style game, but it makes things much simpler.

The one issue that I have had with loot is the range of item level that drops.

My average gear is ~ilvl 740, and I still get a lot of drops for ilvl 590 or low 600s. It's been a bit better over the last day or so, but this has been my biggest annoyance in terms of loot.

Legendaries drop very often in WT4. My biggest issue with the itemization in Diablo 4 is that item required level is tied to your character level. I can't grind with one character and try to save spare gear for alternate characters as the higher level I go (currently 78) the less useful it is for an alt. It would be okay if the gear continue getting stronger and stronger as you level up, but it does not. Ancestral gear drops and can be used at 60 and can roll up to 800+ right out the gate.

Yeah this game is very alt-unfriendly.

I remember some people thinking that it was alt friendly due to the Lilith Altars, but between the gear that you mentioned and the need to grind out renown across all of the different zones. Additional characters aren't super appealing.
