Necro is so much fun. I have my skeleton warriors, skeleton mages and now my golem just following me around everywhere. It is like having a private army. I will say though the game does a poor job of explaining how to summon the golem though.

Re: Diablo 4
Pre Season - I got my Barb to level 85. Deathblow/Rend type build using Call of the Ancients! I will get this SOB to level 100 dang it.
Season 1 - I went with a Rogue (currently level 60). I'm using a melee style (started twisted blades) that is using Flurry! I'm also using the basic attack Invigorating Strike, keeps me moving fast as you know what LOL. Along with the Poison and Death Trap. Having a blast!
I'm not one to run with the usual "meta" set ups, I use them as a guide, find out what I like and don't like and mold it into my own. I wanted to treat the Rogue like a mini Barb, in the mix slaying, then dipping LOL.Twitch

Not going to lie, Baldur's Gate 3 is taking up all my time. Also doesn't hurt that Diablo nerfed stuff to death, that kind of turned me off too.Comment

I don't play Diablo 4, and actually have never played any of them, but I am curious about what you guys think, if you've heard about the recent widespread complaints that people have been making since a recent patch? I keep reading on the Series X (and other) subreddit(s) where people are giving up on the game because of changes that were made.
My curiosity is piqued from the standpoint as a gamer and someone who will give Diablo 4 a shot if/when it comes to Game Pass in the (hopefully near) future.Comment

Re: Diablo 4
At first launch the game was awesome. Every patch since then nerfed stuff, so it isn't just the latest patch, it is every patch. You can still have fun with the game, it just makes a lot of builds not worth the time anymore, so it lessens the variety of players you come across.
People have given up on the game because there are other good games that released recently that you can play, for example Baldur's Gate 3, AEW Fight Forever with mods, Madden 24 dropping this week and Starfield dropping next month. By the time this game hits Game Pass, they might have fixed it to where it was at launch. Would be even better if they returned it to how it was in the beta.Comment

Let them cry about a patch and not play, waste that $70. Me, I am loving this game and play it every chance I get. I'll be skipping season 2 in favor of Starfield.

Re: Diablo 4
Glad you're loving it. Others aren't. Call it crying if you want, but I choose not to lambast people for "crying" about a company making massive changes to a game that they just spent $70 on.

The game that released at the beginning of June, which received generally positive feedback, has already undergone some pretty big changes (which many players are not a fan of).
-They instituted massive class nerfs for many of the best class builds (unprecedented, I don't recall anything close to this level of an across the board class nerf in Diablo 3's 10 year run), 1 month into the game.
-The game already had a slow leveling experience, especially once you hit around level 70. Which was nerfed even further.
-Significantly nerfed one of the best item drop opportunities in the game.
-Added level requirements for the higher difficulties (this was reverted in a later patch)
-Several key stats were reduced, making those stats far less useful as item drops.
The result of the above was that nearly every aspect of the game was slowed down. I have my own thoughts on the motivations behind this, but suffice to say many people felt like playing D4 was becoming an unlikeable job where you invest a lot of time into it while getting very little back.
I haven't followed the patches after the above too closely. I saw a headline that a pretty big patch was dropped a few days ago. So, I don't know what else has changed or what may have been improved.
The game was pretty fun at launch, and I am sure that I will return to it one day after many patches and not having other games like Baldurs Gate 3 or the upcoming Starfield to keep me occupied. One thing I will mention, the endgame was pretty lacking (even before the patches). It was a relatively fun road to get there, but at some point you do hit a plateau and just start to think "what now?". It still took a while to get there, even pre patch, so it is not something to concern yourself with immediately. Just know that it is on the horizon if you do play (Blizzard has said that they want to implement more end-game activities in the future).Last edited by KSUowls; 08-14-2023, 10:35 AM.Comment

Re: Diablo 4
Balance changes were much more of a thing in D3 than in D2 (unsurprising since D3 was completely online), but D3 was released a decade ago and has never come close to the wide sweeping changes, from a single patch, as were done to D4 barely a month after it had released. The only thing that comes close is the elimination of the auction house, and that was done over a year after the game was released.
Blizzard themselves have admitted that they probably went too far with the big July patch in D4, and most importantly the acknowledged that they did not provide anything for the players to offset everything that they took away. Typically with balance patches you will see some class or build nerfed while others receive some love, and you truly get the "balance" part of the equation. What they did in July was pretty close to just a straight nerf across the board from classes to gameplay (a few things did receive some small enhancements, but not many).
I have no complaints about you guys who are still enjoying the game. I just wish that the attitude towards people who are upset was a bit less sanctimonious.Comment

Re: Diablo 4
I kind of disagree with that as someone who has been playing Diablo since before the Lords of Destruction expansion for D2, and purchased both D3 & D4 day 1. I think that it understates the degree to which they changed the game and undeservingly paints this picture that the people complaining don't know what they are talking about.

This is always going to be an ongoing balancing act and it has always been that way for Diablo past games. People who are newer to the series may not understand that aspect.
So maybe my post came across too dismissive.
My larger point is that there was no real reason for people to give up on the game as it's always going to be an evolving game with some classes being too weak, some too powerful etc.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Diablo 4
Well just to be clear, I am not hardcore saying people should just deal with it, to clarify what I meant, Blizzard did acknowledge it, as you said, and so they are working to make it better.

Re: Diablo 4
I definitely agree with this. Any live service game is going to be ever evolving. The current state of the game is not one that I am interested in, but I do think that it will get better in time. Blizzard has promised to never make the kind of wide scale nerfs again, and I am sure that the coming patches over the next weeks/months will bring the game to a state that is maybe more in line to where it was a launch which had very little criticism leveled at it.
I am going up about a level every night, give or take, so my march towards 100 continues, currently at 64Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
