that website rules! of course you have to like submarines...It will be interesting to see if they put out a sub game with more modern subs, vs. WWII subs. It'd be cool to have to run a mission with a modified Los Angeles class, Seawolf class, or even an Ohio class sub...maybe a cold war game or something

YES AOD! Great game. and the MAPS!!
Now I have to dig those out. I remember digging out the maps from the game directories for Silent Service II and trying to print them out on an old B+W printer.
I don't know how my wife has put up with my shinnanegans(sp?) for 18 years.
She's watched me creeping around in dungeons(Ultima Underworld)...flying jetfighters with my crazy setups of throttles and joysticks....driving laps at Talladega with my 20 or so different wheel setups from the original Thrustmaster Driving System to my current ECCI TrackStar6000(a truly UNBELIEVABLE wheel)
She should be up for sainthood!

I loved AOD, it's probably one of the best games ever, its campaign system was truely innovatign a superb. Its a shamy Dynamix doesn't make games anymore, I'd love to see an AOD2 but with SH3 days away I guess we won't have to worry.

SUBSIM also has an exclusive hands on preivew of the campaign engine check it out here - http://www.subsim.com/ssr/sh3_rc1/sh3_mar05_dc1.htm
And a quote "Let's end the suspense right now. From what I've seen so far, the Dynamic Campaign in Silent Hunter III is virtually identical to the career mode in Aces. " - OMFG!!!! I've been waiting for a true sucessor to AOD since 1993!

that's frickin awesome! to be able to take the sub out to a patrol square and see what happens, rather than the stupid scripted "Take the sub and destroy this ship" type stuff...you have no clue what is going to be there, gotta love the uncertainty. This is a must buy for me

Did anyone else play the old PC game "Wolfpack".

That game was freaking awesome. Multiple subs involved in action, etc.

That and Das Boot..waaaaaay back in the old DOS days of the early 90s.

Yep, I have Wolfpack and Grey Wolf, Das Boot was a bit before my time though. What was really cool was the Ship Recognition manuals that the Europeans got with SH3, don't know why it wasn't released in the US.
