      Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

This is the year of 2 games for me. Elden Ring and EA CFB25. I switched from Xbox to pc for ER to play the seamless coop with a friend and now I am in the midst of a completionist run to get to the dlc. I put in 140hrs on Xbox, exploring and getting everything there is in the game on Xbox, I hope it doesn’t take me as long on pc…

CFB25…ONLINE DYNASTY LEAGUES!!!! This will consume what time I’m not playing ER.

        Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

A few days early for my next update, but the next week is going to be pretty busy for me.

June was a month of progress. I finished 2 games in the 2nd category below.

I have also decided to add a game reviews section for anything that I have played regardless of if I have completed it or not (assuming I have enough time in it to justify a review).

        ------------
        Game Reviews:
        Game - (Status) - (Score) - Review
        Spoiler

        ------------

        2024 Goals:
With so few new releases that I'm really excited for I am making this the year of completing titles. I failed my goal too complete 3 games in 2023, but I did make significant progress in a number of them.

1.) Complete 4 of the following games that I am carrying over from 2023
        Spoiler

Progress: 0 from the list, but I am around 75% done with Hogwarts Legacy.

2.) Complete 3 other games (new releases or others)

          Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

I thought I would provide an update at the halfway mark of 2024.

          Sports Games:

So I have not play much in the sports game category this year.

NBA 2k24: I am poking around here or there with my future Cavs franchise but haven't played since April.

MLB 24: I played for a bit but quickly set it down. I gave the series one final shot this year after deciding not to buy it until release day. Honestly, I regret it and it is the last time I will be buying a game in this series.

          Non Sports Gaming:

This is a major focus in 2024 with my gaming patterns continuing to evolve. And honestly where more of my gaming interests lie these days.

          PC Gaming:

          Meet 3 gaming goals.

I am well on my way to meeting 3 PC gaming goals.

          Console Gaming:

          Beat 3 games

So far I have beat the following:

Pokemon Shield (Switch): 7/10. Finished the story, expansions, and the base game 400 pokemon Pokedex. It was my first real pokemon experience and I honestly can say I enjoyed it.

Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster (PS5): 8.5/10. I beat this in the late 90s when it came out with final fantasy 5. Playing through it as an adult made me appreciate it and the final fantasy games that have followed more.

          In Progress Games:

These are games I have in progress during 2024.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor (PS5): This is what I am currently playing as I await the return of EA College Football.

Pokemon Violet (Switch):I started this one but have not advanced far. The goal is complete this Pokedex as well as the main storyline.

Elden Ring (PS5): I have advanced pretty far in this one. My goal is to platinum this game.

Assassin's Creed Mirage (PS5): I only just started this recently and it is fun as it has an old school Assassin's Creed vibe to it.

          Other progress category:

No Man's Sky (PS5): I separated this from the immediate above. I finished the Artemis and Atlas lines and reset the simulation. But I went back to the original galaxy because my goal is to reach the center of the galaxy by jumping systems. It will be a while but I have made a ton of progress.

          Potential Purchases in 2024:

NBA 2k25 (PS5): I am debating this. If I do buy it, it will be on black Friday when it is deep discounted. Nothing against the 2k series, I will be focused on EA College Football 25 when 2k releases so this would end up not being played much. And with the 2k series, I may switch to an every other year purchase. I know I have made fictional draft classes this past year and I really enjoy that, but that isn't worth a day 1 purchase for me just for this to sit unplayed for months.

Madden 25 (PS5): It is the Madden conundrum. I enjoyed the increased control in progression and regression sliders last year. But, franchise mode had multiple mode ruining issues in my opinion. I know there is chatter about 25 being different and getting a lot of love like the college game has, but I need to see genuine progress from the Madden dev team before they have my trust back. If anything, another deep discounted purchase. But I am not going to be fooled by Madden anymore. The last iteration in the series I enjoy is 21. Like I said, if I get the Madden urge, it will be at a deep discount.

Farming Simulator 25 (PC): I am undecided. I got 22 on the first sale it was on and have about 300 hours into my main save. With so much left to do. I will likely wait until the steam summer sale in 2025 to grab this on discount.

Star Wars Outlaws (PS5): Another we will see. It's Star Wars so that's a plus. But I don't know. We will be waiting to see what the reviews say before we look into getting this.

          Gaming Purchases:

MLB 24 (PS5): As I said above, I regretted this quickly. I have finally learned my lesson here. Just like with my annual buying of Madden just to be disappointed. I will either go back to 20 again or honestly at this point, setting the series down entirely feels more feasible right now.

EA NCAA Football 25 (PS5): Technically pre ordered already, but this will consume the second half of my gaming year. I envision this game will last me multiple years before I need to buy another one. The replayability of this, like it's predecessor 11 years ago, will be off the charts. I already have 4 dynasties ideas fully ready to go. I bought the digital standard version so regular release day for me.

Overall, I really haven't bought much in the way of video games this year.

Potential In Queue Games (not a back log):

None have been played in 2024.

          Arkham Knight
          Greedfall
          Saints Row Day One Edition
          The Division 2 (in progress)
Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores (from my current completed game save of 80 hours)
          Assassin's Creed Valhalla (in progress)
          The Last of Us Remastered
          Mafia
          Mafia 2
          Mafia 3
          The Witcher 3 (PS5 version)
Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut (in progress)
          Guardians of the Galaxy
          Demon’s Souls
Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga (in progress)
          World of Final Fantasy
Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin
          Ratchet and Clank
          Biomutant
Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
          Secret of Mana
          Rise of the Tomb Raider
          Final Fantasy VII Remake

          Overall assessment:

This year is going well in terms of gaming. I lost some momentum throughout May because we moved. The last half of my year will likely consist of EA College Football and some non sports games mixed in. I would be setting unrealistic expectations if I added any other concrete gaming plans right now.

MLB 20 forever with classic rosters and Bacons Fictional.

MLB 23 for my one modern 2024 Yankees franchise. 23 is damn good at playing the modern game and the presentation is really sharp. Tons of stories from the booth on tons of players whether they are a star caliber or just regular everyday starters.

I am also done purchasing any future iterations of the Show until I see some serious refreshes in CPU AI. I practically run my entire universe….and I have a blast. But we are good with 20/23. The PS5 seems already maxed out with sports games.

But CFB 25 is gonna show what happens when you have a 2 year development cycle and building a game from the ground up and being exclusive to the current console hardware/CPU processors.

CFB 25 will own our souls.

Madden conundrum is right…..we are in on Madden 25 with a lot of presentation and franchise improvements. I have throughly enjoyed the gameplay of the Beta…..but will it stick? Who knows. They over patch that game every damn year…..please just let the gameplay breath (something the Show is amazing at doing).

2K24 is outstanding. Era Mode only for this old school dude.

I will update in here soon with a master list of games I want to complete and play.

                The backlog is real.

                  Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

Hooked up my Xbox again in anticipation for CFB25 and I've been sucked back into the console life the past 2 weeks. For the last 10+ years I've been a PC guy 99.99% of the time and in that time span I've mostly played competitive games or non-story/non-sports games.

Well, after hooking up my Xbox I went through Gamepass's library and have already installed the Mass Effect collection and replayed and beat the first one. I'm going to start 2 soon. I've never beaten it to this day.

I plan to play them all.

I've been playing Viva Pinata again, lol. I'm going to start Starfield, the Fable series again as I've only ever beaten 1.

I've basically been lost in story mode heaven the last 2 weeks. I love my PC and have zero regrets with it, but some nights it's very relaxing to just lean back, prop the feet up, and have a controller in my hand while getting lost in a story. I apparently have missed that more than I realized.

CFB25 isn't just bringing college football gaming back to me. It's apparently bringing story games back into my life and it's been so relaxing to play them the last 2 weeks and not play Valorant, Rocket League, or whatever else I play competitively.

I became a PC guy in 2015 after I had squeezed every bit of life out of the 360 and have been fairly happy with the change. I borrowed The Show from the library for my daughter’s Switch and was enjoying it. Then a bunch of my friends who aren’t gamers said they’d be getting College Football 25. So over the weekend, I returned to console gaming with a Xbox Series S and upgrading my PC gamepass to ultimate. Will enjoy The Show until CF25 is out.

                      Re: 2024 Gaming Plans

2024 is a weird gaming year for me. I am working on some professional certifications that take up a ton of time so gaming time is limited. From now until early November I am going to be studying a ton so I'm not sure how much gaming I'll get in.

Here is what is going on though:

                      MLB The Show:
I'm juggling multiple versions of the show trying to find which franchise I really want to dive in and commit to.

Bacons roster on 20 or 21:
Looking to do an Indians franchise with Bacon's roster. I don't have the dislike of 21 that many do. I actually think it plays quite well. But I know Bacon's best roster is on 20. I'm just rotating both and trying to figure out which one gives me a connection.

                      MLB 23:
I really like how this game plays. I found a fictional roster I enjoy playing with so I have this going as well.

                      MLB 22:
I dabble with this from time to time. Have a Pirates franchise with Sherman's Ricky Davis league that's fun.

Really just rotating these franchises trying to feel one that really sticks with me. They're all fun in their own ways. But there's only so much time in the day.

                      College Football 25:
Preordered and will play some and explore when it comes out, but probably won't get to dive deep until my certification is done in November.

                      Final Fantasy VII Rebirth:
62 hours into this and on Chapter 11. Clearing out as much side stuff as I can so I can focus on mainlining. But again, with work stuff it's just slow.

                      Switch:
Playing Metroid Dread and Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters when on the couch with the wife.

EA College Football 25 is going to be one word: Epic.

NHL 23 has been a revelation for me. I had been playing 19 all this time. Never got into 20/21/22/23 at all.

Tried out 24 on EA play (also free on PSN now) and do not like it at all. Gameplay is whacked.

So I said let me try 23 (DL free from EA Play) and man….I found a outstanding updated trade deadline roster from the 23/24 season and I am already 28 games into a Panthers Franchise that will be a long term Chise. Also found some great classic rosters in the vault to set up custom one season replays with in franchise/season mode.

                          Having a blast.

                          Currently playing:

NHL 23 - Panthers Year 1 and 93/94 Penguins Season Replay
                          MLB 23 - 2024 Yankees Year 1
MLB 20 - The Quest For Donny Baseball 1985 Yankees Season Replay
                          Dragons Dogma II

                          Coming soon:

CFB 25 - NC Wolfpack Dynasty (Phillip Rivers HC)
Madden 25 - LA Chargers and Washington Commanders Franchise

Once CFB and Madden Drop we will between those two games and NHL 23.

The Show will go on an extended hiatus till March 2025. 2024 Yankees Year 1 on MLB 23 is in the home stretch as we are 16 games away from the post season. I really love 23 for modern baseball. Such a great playing game.

But wow….I am obsessed with NHL 23 big time. Highly addictive and I tuned a killer Pro level set of sliders. It’s playing beautifully.

With what the Devils have done this off season, I'm so ready again for hockey. Haven't played EA since 2012. Yeah, it's been that long. Still hoping for Visual Concepts to throw their hat into the rink again.

Yeah I know. It's up to you now 24.

                              QUARTERLY UPDATE
                              - July/August/September

                              CURRENTLY PLAYING
                              - Starfield

200+ hours into the game. Basically on the last story mission. Have done 150+ side quests and all Faction quests. Despite the game having issues, im absolutely loving Starfield despite it's issues. Best quests and side quests for me since The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. I'm playing the game as a first person shooter on foot and im loving the combat. Feels great to play. Ship combat is excellent as I play it in third person. As of now, Starfield is my game of the generation. Like with 343 Industries winning me over with the Halo Infinite campaign, Bethesda Game Studios won me over with Starfield.

What is looking like a 20 game year for me overall, the second half will have 15 games that im very interested in playing. Just in the example above, I have 5 games in 12 days. But hyped nevertheless!!!
