Slight change to my original post and adding in my goals.

There was a 15 minute game demo for Clair Expedition 33 that released a few weeks ago. This is now a pre-order, and I'm looking at this as a potential GOTY. The game was already beautiful with some impressive voice talent in Andy Serkis and Jennifer English in the cast. The trailers always looked promising, but after that gameplay reveal I'm convinced this is everything that I want out of a JRPG. It honestly looks like everything that I wanted modern Final Fantasy games to be, ie: evolution of traditional JRPG concepts instead of an entire genre switch. If this one nails the landing then it's going to be a strong GOTY contender. Also, props to the developers for announcing the price of this game. It clearly has a big budget if you just look at the names of the voice talent that they have, and they have already announced that the game will only be $49.99 at launch "citing accessibility as the main reason for this decision".
Just noticed this post from just shy of a year ago. I don't often get it right, but I nailed this prediction.

It's the frontrunner for GOTY, and probably my favorite game of all time. It was so exciting seeing this one get hyped, and then obviously playing it later.

I think this year will primarily be (yet another) backlog clear-out year for me, with an exception for GTA6 just because I know I'm gonna get that when/if it comes out this year.

I'm a huge Civilization geek, so I will eventually get Civ 7, but I almost never get those games at launch. They're good for the better part of a decade, usually, so I'll just wait on that one for a while (unless I miraculously clear out my backlog and end up needing new content!).

Otherwise, I still have FFVII Remake sitting around on my hard drive, and if I ever get the spark again, Gran Turismo 7 is still there.

I'm 50-50 on whether I get a new College Football this year, but it may be time to jump back into MLB The Show depending on how this year's edition looks.

And honestly, that will probably more than account for my year, as I don't finish games or put in as much time these days. But we'll see.

Happy New Year to everyone, by the way!

Halfway through the year update (crazy!).

I got on a weird 'Dead Rising' kick and realizing I'd never played any of the games, knocked out Dead Rising 1 & 2. Both good games and fun in their own weird ways, and I'm glad I finally played them but no need to do any more 'Dead Risings' for me.

Just finally finished The Last of Us Part 2'. Long overdue. It's incredible what a high level Naughty Dog makes their games at (basically only Rockstar can compete), and the combat/action in the game was more fun than the first one IMO, although I didn't really much care for the story. It started to drag in the middle of the game and toward the end, but I'm impressed with how much content was in that package.

We'll see what strikes my fancy next and how the summer goes. I'm gonna need to be blown away by CFB26 to get it 2 years in a row.
So the final tally for 2025 is that I finished (or just played in the case of the last one):

          Dead Rising 1 & 2
The Last of Us Part 2
          Call of Duty WW2
          Spiderman
          God of War Ragnarök
          Cyberpunk 2077
          WWE2K25

Which is a lot for me. I sort of sat out the sports games this year as none of them really got me excited enough to pull the trigger. I think that I surprisingly probably spent the most time with Cyberpunk, which I'm glad I played well after it released because in its current condition, it's a pretty darn good game. The standouts for me this year were TLOU2 (gameplay-wise, anyway), Spiderman, and Cyberpunk. GoW: Ragnarok was really good, but I really don't think it did all that much different or better than the prior game. Spiderman was tons of fun and really well-done graphically and gameplay-wise, but I was pretty much ready to be done with it when I finished the game and felt no real need to look into the sequels.

I think I'm gonna be a bit more selective with sequels these days. With limited amount of time to play games, I think I'd rather look at trying a lot of different stuff than dive back in to anything I have already played before. We'll see what happens in 2026 but I did not expect my 2025 to look like the list above!

I still plan on getting a lot of time in on at least MLB The Show 25 and EA CFB 26 but as for non-sports gaming, I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys about what's on the horizon and what to look out for.
Love sports video games and tho these three were my most anticipated goty. I rank them in this order for my favorite 2025 sports games:
            #2 - MLB The Show.
            #3 - NASCAR 25.
            #4 - CFB 26.

My game of the year for 2025 goes to... *Drum Roll*..
            #1 - NBA2K26.

My 2025 Gaming Plans are all about balance and variety. I want to finish more story-driven single-player games while still enjoying competitive multiplayer with friends. I also plan to explore indie titles and retro games I missed before. Instead of chasing every new release, I’ll focus on quality experiences, better time management, and enjoying games without burnout. I think using Promova’s online Korean classes https://promova.com/page/online-korean-classes fits great with my gaming plans. While playing with Korean friends or enjoying Korean games, I can learn practical language skills naturally. It’s more fun and relevant than textbooks, and helps me communicate better, understand culture, and connect with players in real time.

I hear you on that. I have reached that point of fatigue again where I'm growing tired of the AAA formula. Been trying to find a good single player experience after beating Clair Obscure and Yotei and it's been a struggle. If anyone has any recommendations for indie titles or games the flew under the radar - let me know!

I'm with you. I think the issue is that almost every "AAA" game is fundamentally the same - if you play them all back-to-back that becomes immediately apparent (especially for PlayStation exclusives). Horizon/God of War/Assassin's Creed/Ghost of Whatever - they all end up feeling kind of the same. Open world 3rd person with a bunch of quest and side quest markers littering a map; go here & kill this guy, go there & grab that item, oh we'll toss in a weirdo serial killer side mission for 'variety'...it's just all been done before.

I'm not saying there's no room to innovate there - there's probably an infinite amount of innovation to be had yet - but nothing in that so-called "AAA" space has come out in a long time that has been particularly exciting to me.

Well it's Christmas Eve, and I don't see myself making much extra progress. So, time for my end of year update for 2025.

I knew that 2025 was going to be good with some of the games that were teased, but it really turned into a banner year imo. So many excellent games that came out this year.

I fell just shy of my gaming goal for the year, but I have several titles that I'll probably be able to finish off in 2026. Despite the failure, I do feel like these updates have helped to keep me on track some. Also, I really enjoy writing up the reviews. It was something I started last year, but really expanded this time around.

I haven't posted in here all year but I thought I would do a wrap up of my gaming year

Most of my non-sports game time focused on two highly addictive games that didn't offer much in terms of graphics.

Balatro (PS5) is like crack. I spent hours playing just one more game, hoping for just one more run. I won at least one game with all the decks and that was a victory in my mind. I learned a lot of strategy along the way and I keep learning with every run. But I don't think think I will ever win that jokerless challenge. (10/10)

Blue Prince (PS5) is a puzzle game that I spent well over 100 hours playing. I never would have tried this if it wasn't free on PS Plus. I got to room 46 but there's so much more to do after unlocking that room. I was proud of getting to room 46 and solving many other puzzles without looking at hints. (8/10)

                        Games Completed in 2025

Ghost of Yotei (PS5 -- Platinum Trophy) -- This is my game of the year. Incredible visuals and gameplay. One of the best looking games on the PS5. Terrific voice acting. It's a credit to the voice actors that I cared more about the characters as the game progressed. I didn't think one character looking for revenge would make a great story but I was wrong. The story starts slow but gets better. Everything that was great in Ghost of Tsushima is improved here. I played the entire game on hard level but had to turn it down to normal to beat the final boss (10/10).

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (PC Games Pass -- Hard) – Is this the best movie to video game adaption of all time? It reminded me of Unchartered but with better puzzles and less gun play. I hope the new 007 learns from this game. (9/10)

Hogwart’s Legacy (PS5 -- Hard – 100 per cent, Level 40) -- I have never been a Harry Potter fan but the developers did a wonderful job creating this world in a video game. It was a stunning open world game with surprisingly fun combat. (9/10)

                        DLC Completed in 2025

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Paris (PS5 -- Hard) -- I think I was burned out by Valhalla by the end of this DLC. I loved the Valhalla world and settlement building but the repetitive combat was feeling boring by the end (6/10)

                        2025 Played but Not Competed

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey: (PC -- Hard) – Level 43, 29 per cent completed
Avowed (PC Game Pass – Hard) – Level 19
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (PC Games Pass) -- Everyone loves this game but I just hated that first underwater area.
Elden Ring (PC) – Level 51.
God of War Ragnarok (PS5): Barely started
Skyrim (PC -- Novlus Mod) – Level 10
The Outer Worlds 2 (PC Game Pass) -- Barely started

                        Sports Games

Mostly played two old sports games because I love my sliders:

                        FIFA 22 (PS5)
Manchester United (Third season, 13-1-7, Third place
Manchester United (Second Season: 31-3-4. Finished first)
Manchester United (First Season: 27-6-5, Finished Second by one point)
France (Lost World Cup Semifinal; Won Third Place Game)

The Show Series (PS5) -- I Play on All-Star level, every pitch
                        MLB 24 (PS5) – Philadelphia (15-5)
                        MLB 21 (PS5) – Toronto (49-35), Buffalo (41-38), New Hampshire (32-22)
                        MLB 20 (PS4) – Montreal (34-15)
                        MLB 19 (PS4) – Milwaukee (39-29)
                        MLB 17 (PS4) – NY Mets (12-19)
