I listen to music for almost the entire eight or nine hours I work per day at my desk, so my 40 GB Zen Xtra with nearly 5,000 songs on it gets quite a workout. A great piece of electronic equipment.

    Take care,

I agree with you PK, I also got a Zen Xtra 40 GB for Christmas and I love it. I use it in my car and I also take it around to listen to. I bought a PSP so I could play games and movies on the go, so I have the best of both worlds. I think I have a little over 30 gb on my xtra though!

150 songs is enough for me. No point in 1500 for me since 1250 of them songs I'm never gonna listen to.

I guess I'll pick up a PSP at some point in time. I do plan to play it, but I was also interested in the mp3 portion of it. Hmm... and DVD... Man this must be great to take on trips

Sandisk is the best type of MP3 player if you aren't going to have 5 trillion songs on it. I got a 256 MB player for like $100 and they have a 512 MB player too which should work. They might have a 1 GB player too but don't quote me on that.

They're good prices, extremely compact (its like the size of 2 of my fingers) and best of all VERY easy to use.

                  Re: PSP over Ipod?

For about the price of a 512 MB or 1 GB Memory Stick Duo card, which you would need to store music for playback on the PSP, you can get flash players in those capacities.

You can even get the iPod Shuffles in those capacities for $99 or $149. So do a search for Memory Stick Duo in the 512 MB and 1 GB sizes. When I last looked in January, they were almost that much if you got the Sandisk and more if you got the Sony ones.

A flash player is going to be much easier to carry around all the time, and probably get better battery life than the PSP. If you go to the gym and want to listen to music, you're not going to take the PSP while you're working out.

On the other hand, if you do get a high-capacity Memory Stick Duo card for your PSP (the ones sold in the US comes with a 32 MB card, which is big enough for game saves but not for music or anything else), you can store pictures and movies on those cards and view them on your PSP.

So for music-only uses, a flash player is probably a better investment than a high-capacity Memory Stick Duo card. But if you think you're going to look at pics. and videos as well as listen to music on your PSP, then start looking for those cards.

Either way, you're talking about $350 to $400 total: $250 for the PSP and $100-150 for the flash player or Memory Stick Duo cards.

No offense, but I never saw the point of this argument. If I have 8,551 songs on my iPod/computer, the point is to have access to every piece of music I own. What do you mean by "don't even listen to half of those songs"? People have them, and they will listen to them. Do they have to hear a song five times in a week, twice a day, what? So what if there's an album that I own that I haven't listened to in a year? If I get the inkling, it's right there. It makes no sense to argue that its not "worth it" to have music if you don't hit play quotas.

I have an iPod(and others who have harddrive players I assume will agree), because I want to carry my entire music collection with me at all times. I don't want to spend the beginning of each day trying to guess and pick out what selection of 150 or so songs I might want to listen to that day. And even if I do construct a specific playlist, I can change to any song on a whim.

Just because the both the iPod/harddrive and PSP have the capability to play music, doesn't mean they should be compared. They are both aimed at vastly different needs/users.

I couldn't imagine listening to the same 150 songs over and over. To me that sounds like a very boring music lifestyle. Is that what you really do?

The PSP is many, many things .... but an iPod replacement it isn't. The capacity simply isn't there.

However, the iPod won't play Lumines.

Time to lobby Ubisoft to port Lumines to the iPod!! I demand it!! Oh wait...I suppose I could just listen to my iPod while I play it, nevermind

I will chime in and say that one should probably shy away from the PSP if they are looking for a device strictly for playing music.

                              Now to contradict PK...
Based on my own bad experience with the 40GB Creative ZenXtra player, I actually will tell anyone and everyone who will listen to avoid Creative products like the plague. I am biased to be sure, however, if you do get one you should seriously consider picking up a protection/replacement warranty because Creative's warranty and product support is b-a-d BAD.

Thanks to Creative I am now a satisfied iPod owner, too bad it took me over $500 to get there. Good Luck!
